Idyllic setting

We fell in love with this property. The owners have provisioned the home with everything to meet your needs. They were delightful to communicate with and were always responsive. The home itself has wonderful natural light and the setting is truly idyllic. The outdoor space overlooks October Mountain and is the perfect setting to relax and enjoy a glass of wine. The interior space is just as wonderful. The beds comfortable and plenty of room for your clothes. The location is also fabulous. Close to Tangelwood and museums, restaurants and hiking. Highly recommend and plan to return.

Wonderful Stay

This property is well-located (for just a few examples, short drive to Lenox village, Tanglewood, Pleasant Valley Wildlife Sanctuary), well-appointed, comfortable, and has a lovely yard. The property owner is very responsive and a pleasure to deal with. We hope to return!

RAIN & SHINE- A GLORIOUS MONTH IN THE BERKSHIRES

Dan & Rebecca's home is a bucolic respite from the activity one finds in Lenox and other nearby towns. The kitchen is well-stocked and the rest of the rooms, including the bathrooms, are well-appointed and comfortable. It's a "homey" house - with an expansive and beautiful backyard complete with apple and walnut trees and resident bunny.

Berkshire getaway

My family really enjoyed staying in this beautiful home. It was impeccably clean and stocked with nice dishes and cooking tools. You can tell that the house is well-loved by the owners. It has the beauty of an older house but also having everything for modern needs. My young grandsons especially enjoyed taking baths in the large bathtub. We also had a nice evening with friends by the outdoor firepit on the patio. The owner was very helpful and easy to work with. I would definitely recommend this property!

Beautiful, comfortable house near Lenox

We had a terrific stay at this comfortable, spacious, beautifully appointed house. Everything is up to date and beautifully designed and maintained by the owners. The location, very close to Lenox and Pittsfield, with Stockbridge and Great Barrington also nearby, is ideal. We loved the spacious backyard/meadow, outdoor eating area, and fire pit. This is a delightful rental with no downsides.

Wonderful stay!

This was an ideal home for our family. 2 boys (6 and 9) absolutely adored their new home for 10 days. They were running outside in the massive field, throwing baseballs, footballs, kicking soccer balls, swinging on the swing, collecting sticks, digging around - you name it they were doing it outside. Also in the basement, our family would have fussball tournaments everynight. So much fun. There are plenty of windows where you can admire the natural beauty of the location, and open them up to get a wonderful breeze. Dan was a wonderful owner and very attentive to all our needs. We'd definitely come back here to enjoy more of the house and what the Berkshires have to offer.

Lovely! Beautiful! Comfortable! Five stars!

Our group enjoyed an all-too-brief stay here at the end of June 2019. It is one of the best vacation rentals I've stayed in! Large and comfortable, it is ideally suited to families and groups who might want a bit of privacy for couples or family units within the group. The main floor features a beautiful, well-equipped kitchen, a large dining room, a comfortable and casual living room with large TV, and at the back of the house, a queen-size bedroom and full bath. Upstairs, a master bedroom/bath and two smaller bedrooms (one with one twin and one with two twins) are located on a hall separated by a door from another master suite with queen bed and ensuite bath. From that suite, I could go down the back stairs without disturbing either the parents in the master suite, or the kids who were sleeping in the smaller bedrooms. All the furnishings are remarkably comfortable. I forgot to check to see what brand of mattress was on my bed, but it was outstanding! We all slept well, due to the comfort of the mattresses as well as the delightful cross breezes that kept our rooms fresh and cool all night. Outside, the property has a huge back yard that includes a seating area with fire pit, a close-in "orchard" with apple trees complete with swing, and a mowed path that goes around a wildflower-grasses natural area. Lots of room to explore and enjoy! It is not far to grocery stores, CVS, and civilization. The road is a bit on the busy side, but not too much. If you are looking for a well-equipped, comfortable home to enjoy the Berkshires, this one is worth looking into. Dan made the whole experience easy by accommodating a last-minute delay in our arrival, and could not have been more helpful. Five stars and then some!

lovely 5 day stay

We came up for two concerts at Tangelwood and it was the perfect location. The house was very well appointed. Wonderful kitchen with all that we needed to cook meals. Bedrooms with very comfortable beds and bedding. Baths with great shower heads. Backyard had a fire pit with wood available that we used a few nights. All in all a great time and wonderfully attentive owners.

Gorgeous country home!

Lovely, spacious, clean home. Very nice downstairs bedroom and bathroom for Grandma, plenty of bedrooms/bathrooms upstairs for everyone else. Very central to Lenox, and Pittsfield, quick trip to Shakespeare and Co, Barrington Stage, Barrington Theater Co. and groceries. Nice hiking nearby. Lovely large lawn if the kids bring the Nerf guns. Be aware that laundry facilities are in the basement if the "laundry-doer" in your group has difficulty with stairs.

We had a lovely and memorable time staying at your home! Will definitely book again!

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. The house was clean and full of character! We appreciated the luxurious toiletries and quality bedding and towels. The location is great... as it is 15 min or less driving into the towns of Lenox, Lee, and Pittsfield. It took all of 10 minutes to get to the closest ski area, Bosquet. The backyard was lovely and we enjoyed grilling on the porch and sharing meals with family and friends. The foosball table in the basement was a fun bonus... It was such a joy to hear our kids running and laughing through the halls of your beautiful home!

Thanksgiving in Lenox MA.

We rented the house in Lenox, MA from the Zussman's from Nov. 21 - Nov. 28, 2016 for a Thanksgiving gathering of our family. 11 inches of snow fell on Nov. 21, and Dan was great in getting the driveway and parking area plowed. It was a pleasure to arrive at a well lit and warm house, where we were greeted by Debbie who showed us around the house and answered all our questions. While it was an older home, it was nicely upgraded. My wife really enjoyed the large kitchen with both a prep room and a large granite island. This proved to be the center point of the house with plenty of room for family members to gather while the cooks prepared the Thanksgiving feast. We had a damp and cold week, but the house was always toasty and cozy. The dining room accommodated our 11 family members and the kids (& adults) enjoyed many movies and games in the living room. The boys also enjoyed the fooseball table in the basement. The yard was spacious and was perfect for making a snowman, rolling huge snowballs (one was 5 ft. tall) and our annual touch football game. The girls also enjoy hiking around the property on the nicer days. There was plenty of cookware and dinnerware. The house was clean and well maintained. Dan was always willing and available to answer any of our questions. The gals were pleased to have a good selection of grocery stores nearby. We definitely would recommend this property for a family gathering. Bill & Carol Pascoe - Ocala Fl. - Nov. 2016.

Fabulous home, location, and views!

We stayed here for a long weekend during the peak of fall leaf season. The house is lovely and accommodated three couples perfectly with the three bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. Everything was spotlessly clean. We did some cooking in the well-equipped kitchen (the knives were even sharp!) and served breakfast to 12 family members in the dining room. We were there for a wedding, so didn't have a lot of time to discover the area, but the house is centrally located, with easy accessibility to nearby towns and attractions. There's a huge field behind the house, which is kept mown, with lots of room to play Simon Says and tag. And the view from the upstairs back bedroom of the sunrise over the Berkshires is breathtaking. The owner responded quickly to questions before we got there and was readily accessible during our stay (though all went well and we didn't need to be in touch). We'd go back in a heartbeat!

Lovely Country Getaway

Five girlfriends stayed here for an annual getaway. We each had our own bedroom and the house is very spacious. The home has been recently renovated with beautiful bathrooms. The caretaker of the property was very helpful and kind. We enjoyed sitting outside wth a beautiful view of the mountains while we enjoyed an afternoon snack and glass of wine. The town of Lenox was full of specialty boutiques and we had no trouble obtaining some lovely clothing, shoes, housewares, etc. We especially enjoyed our meals at Spoon and Church Street Bistro! We would certainly stay here in the future!

Beautiful country home!

We stayed in this home for seven weeks during the summer. It was glorious. The home is beautifully decorated and clearly loved. The owners were easy to reach and very responsive with any and all questions. The location is perfect for easy access to Lenox and Pittsfield and a short drive to Stockbridge and Lee. What a gem!

Truly a wonderful property

Honestly, if my family lived closer to the Berkshires I probably wouldn't review this house because I wouldn't want to share it. A beautiful hundred year -old home impeccably restored and so tastefully furnished and decorated, it sits on two rolling acres just five minutes' drive from downtown Lenox. Quiet at night (save a little noise from the road), we watched the rabbits hop across the grass at dusk and listened to our kids giggle with delight in the swing that hangs from the apple tree out back. The beds are comfortable, the whole place was spotless clean, and our only complaint was that we couldn't stay longer than the eight nights we spent there. Hosts were communicative and friendly and we hope to be back again.

About the host

Hosted by Dan Zussman

Host profile image
I was born and raised in a rural town north of Boston Massachusetts, my wife, Rebecca, is from Chicago. We met in Providence, Rhode Island at college. We were both trained in the arts and live and work in Rhode Island. Rebecca is a Jewelry designer and I am a retired cabinetmaker now Materials Manager for a display company. We are both lovers of housing stock from yesteryear.

Why they chose this property

We looked for almost a year for just the right house. We put a compass in the center of Lenox and drew a 20 mile radius. My wife and I felt that Lenox is the center of the Berkshires, I'm sure others could argue, but for us, we are 10 minutes from Tanglewood. 40 minutes down the road from the Clark Museum or Mass-MoCA. 10 minutes from Shakespeare & Company or 20 minutes to Berkshire Theater Group. If yoga is your focus Kripalu another 5 minutes down the road from Tanglewood. I forgot Dance, Jacob’s Pillow is 20 minutes to the East.
And if it’s the outdoors you want anywhere in the Berkshires is the center. That explains the location. , As to the house and the land, the house was built in 1918 for the Parker Farm. And the land is some of the rolling fields’ clear back then for the farm. The farm backs up to the wetlands of the Housatonic River and be on that is October Mountain. The sunrises are spectacular.

What makes this property unique

The 100 year old house was recently renovated, exterior and interior. New plumbing, new wiring, 3 new full bathrooms. This old gem was not going to be constantly chasing me for another fix. The view out the back is quintessential Berkshires
