Stunning Views from Waterfront Log Cabin With Fireplace On The Chesapeake Bay

LENGTH-OF-STAY CHANGE: Hi everyone! In the past, shorter stays were pretty common here, and I loved hosting all kinds of visits. These days, reservations have a 30-day minimum. If you’re curious about why the change and were hoping for something a bit shorter, feel free to reach out to the owner. Always happy to chat!

You don't have to go far to feel far away from it all. The water view is stunning, described as breathtaking and exquisite. A rustic and cozy log cabin, in the woods, with a fire place, on a cliff, on the water. A great place to relax, walk the beach or nearby hiking trails. Come walk the beach and enjoy the expansive view from the deck, admire the fall foliage, or stay inside during cozy fall or crisp winter weather with a fire going. Look for fossilized sharks teeth on the community's private beach, or watch lightly falling snow on the water and trees, while you're warm and toasty inside with a fire going. Relax, enjoy the view and be at peace in every season.

NOTE 1: Hi everyone who's been looking at my property but not yet booked a stay, please just send me a message here letting me know that you're considering staying some time. I let people know of special opportunities to stay or events in the area that they may not know about but really like. If you've reached out to me here, then I can let you know when something's coming up. Sound good?

Note 2: This property, located about 15 minutes from Exelon's Calvert Cliffs, offers a cozy home with a beautiful view and fireplace. Multi-week winter stay discounts are available, making it a great spot to stay while working nearby.

This listing contains terrific information about my cabin and what you should know to have a most enjoyable stay. I hope you'll read to the end.

On clear nights, the cabin offers a stunning stargazing experience, away from city lights, where you can marvel at the brightness of stars and possibly see the Milky Way. Sitting on the deck, you can enjoy the peacefulness of the waves and the beauty of the night sky. A full moon adds an extra touch with shimmering moonlight on the water, making for a memorable experience.

This charming log cabin, originally built in the 1930s and carefully updated over time, combines rustic appeal with modern comforts, including central air, a La-Z-Boy sofa, Smart TV, Wi-Fi, and a fully-equipped kitchen. It sleeps 5 with a king bed, twin bed, and queen sofa bed. Located just an hour from Washington DC and Annapolis, it's the perfect cozy getaway.

I value diversity. LGBTQIA travelers welcome!

Relax surrounded by nature and stunning waterfront views, or be active and walk the beach looking for shark's tooth fossils, or hike nearby nature trails. The large windows and full deck let you enjoy the view in comfort. The perfect weekend or holiday getaway place, especially with the cozy fireplace going. Located on a 65-foot cliff, it's just a short walk to a beach and a 5-minute drive to a private community beach. Stroll the beach and enjoy the excitement of searching for fossilized shark's teeth that have washed up from the Chesapeake Bay. Walk the paths in the community or the trails in the nearby American Chestnut Land Trust and enjoy the scenic natural beauty. Visit local museums and historical sites. Eat at local restaurants or prepare your own food and dine on the deck while enjoying the waterfront view.

I love my neighbors. They are the best! Together we all enjoy a very quiet and relaxed neighborhood surrounded by nature's beauty. I'm committed to finding guests who will maintain the tranquility, respect community rules, and avoid parties or events. If you enjoy nature and a calm, relaxing atmosphere, you're welcome to request a stay at the cabin.

Internet Service is generally quite reliable and speedy. Neither I nor guests have had any trouble using Zoom or doing other online video conferencing.

The main bedroom downstairs contains a king bed. There is a small, rustic, attached full bathroom, closets, and five windows offering direct views of the Chesapeake Bay.

The second bedroom upstairs is an alcove off of the dining room, so it has only 3 walls but is private from the living room. It has a twin bed surrounded by book shelves and from that bed you can see the Chesapeake Bay and have great views of the sunrise while staying cozy under the covers. There is a full bathroom upstairs and a closet for clothes.

The living room couch folds out into a queen-sized bed with an inflatable pillow top. Positioned in front of the fireplace, it offers great views of the Chesapeake Bay through the dining room.

The path from the parking area to the main floor of the cabin is step-free, making for an easy walk.

Some Terrifically-Important-But-Not-Terribly-Exciting Details About Cleaning, Linens, Pets and Babies - Please Please Read This! Babies who cannot walk or crawl are welcome, but otherwise there is a minimum age of 5 for all guests. Some pets are allowed for a pet fee, 50 lbs maximum per pet (if larger, discuss with owner for a possible waiver). Most dogs under 2 years of age or who bark frequently are not allowed. If the total weight for 1 or more pets is more than 50 lbs, then at minimum an additional (and potentially more) pet fee will be charged. At the time you book your stay, please send a message and let the owner know your pet's age, breed, weight, barking habits & degree of housebrokeness. The cabin's pet guidelines can be sent in advance to you if you'd like, and if you book a stay they'll be sent to you to confirm that you and your much loved furry pal can follow them. After you schedule a stay we'll talk live over the phone, then a customized contract (the same one VRBO makes available to you to download and read before scheduling your stay) will be sent to you for signature. Now, wasn't that all very interesting?

No events, parties, disturbing of neighbors, boats on a trailer, or double-cab pickup trucks with a long bed allowed (too long for the parking area). Instead, come for quiet relaxation, stargazing, and nature at this cozy waterfront log cabin on the Chesapeake Bay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this kitschy, cool, rustic cabin with a million-dollar view. Communing with the ospreys, hummingbirds and the bald eagle who perched numerous times on a nearby tree was an added bonus. And, the owner may be the most friendly/helpful we’ve ever rented from. We hope to be back some day. Thanks!

Hubby and I loved our stay in this rustic cabin. It is above the water with unobstructed views. We saw a LOT of birds during our stay. There were many Osprey flying around and catching their breakfasts/dinners right in front of us! There were bald eagles in the neighbors tree. Brett is very helpful and nice. The cabin is well supplied with nearly everything - TV, binoculars, telescope, beach chairs, as well as the essentials like Kleenex, paper towels, TP, etc. I recommend bringing your own sheets and towels to avoid a fee. There is no washer or dryer (so the housekeeper has to take it away in order to clean it). There are safe roads and trails to walk on and a lot more hiking if you don’t mind a short drive. It is the perfect place for a getaway of any length!

Fantastic Stay!

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at Brett's log cabin on the bay. The water views were the best! The cabin itself was cozy and had everything we needed. Our time there in Scientists Cliffs was so quiet and relaxing. Just what we needed!

Stargazing on the Chesapeake Bay

Wonderful weekend at the log cabin overlooking the Chesapeake Bay! Everything we expected and more with the wood burning fireplace to keep us cozy on a winter getaway. Looking forward to spending more time in the summer to enjoy sitting on the deck in the sun and at night for more stargazing!

Cozy Bayfront Cabin with Amazing Views

There are so many reasons to visit Scientists’ Cliffs in the winter, especially if you enjoy cozying up with your honey by the beach. The warm, inviting cabin features an oversized hearth and breathtaking 180-degree views of the Chesapeake Bay from atop a cliff. Outdoor enthusiasts will love the endless hiking opportunities, whether it’s searching for shark teeth along the beach or exploring the nearby land trust trails. As the neighborhood history book in the cabin notes, “Scientists’ Cliffs is not fancy. You have to like roughing it to some degree.” But don’t let that deter you—host Brett is always available virtually to ensure your stay goes smoothly. We can’t wait to return, especially with our Vizsla, who absolutely loved it!

A cozy getaway

We were welcomed by a very cozy, warm, clean cabin. Peaceful, restful, gorgeous view and pretty much everything you would need in a cabin. It is important to remember it is a cabin so not all the comforts of home but pretty close. The deck and the view of the Chesapeake is amazingly soothing. Eagles daily flying overhead, trails to walk, and sail boats across the Bay. Truly a wonderful stay and perfect for tranquility. Will be back. Our host is not on site yet very attentive. We had to contact him a couple of times and he was readily available within minutes. Check in easy. Check out easy. Just a great stay overall.

Beautiful view of the bay; cozy cabin

We loved our visit to Scientist's Cliffs and the Navy Cabin. The cabin is right on the cliff with stunning views of the bay. We saw bald eagles, wild ducks, and lots of other water animals. We found fossilized sharks teeth on the beach. and took lovely walks through the neighborhood. Last but not least, we spent comfortable evenings in front of the fire place. This is a great place to visit during the winter. We will definitely return!

Unique historic property with an incredible location

The view was just as magnificent as in the pictures--water as far as the eye can see. The first night, there was a full moon. The next, we saw a storm come in and there were branches of lightning across the horizon. The fireplace was a wonderful way to be cozy in the cabin. We did walks on South Beach and found some fossils as well as two long hikes on the American Chestnut Land Trust trails. Definitely a unique place and we learned a lot and relaxed.

Cute, Quirky Log Cabin on the Bay

My husband and I stayed at the Navy Cabin over the Christmas holiday. We loved the tree Brett put up with all of his Navy ornaments and Santa. Waking up to a bright orange sunrise over the Bay was incredible. So was the daily Bald Eagle flyover. He likes to perch on the large trees on either side of the cabin. We loved Adam's Taphouse and Grill for best crab cakes, spiced shrimp, everything! Ordered groceries on-line from Giant Food and they delivered right to the cabin. The owner, Brett, is on-top of everything and very communicative.

One of the most relaxing vacation spots, with an incredible view.

From the initial contact with Brett to learning more abt Scientists Cliffs, I was charmed by this spot before I even arrived, but when I got there, I found a true log cabin, cozy and dedorated with an eclectic assortment of souvenirs that show the many travels of this cabin’s owner. And true to its name, it’s peppered with sea-focused memorabilia. It feels like going to visit your grandparents in the country. And the view is magnificent. I didn’t do much on this first trip (first because I’m definitely coming back here), but relaxed a whole lot. And just for that it was worth it. Found some fossil and maybe a shark tooth (I think) on the beach.

Peaceful getaway

The stay at the cabin was heavenly. The view is amazing! At first I couldn't tell where the sky ended and the water began. Sunrises were worth waking up for. We slept in, watched movies by the fire, ate at wonderful restaurants nearby, searched beaches for shark's teeth, and even got in a little antique/knick-knack shopping. The cabin more than met all of our needs. The bed is comfortable, the showers are hot, and the place is lovely. Brett is so welcoming and full of helpful information. He checked in on us periodically to make sure everything was working as it should and that we were having a good time. We will be back again.

Perfect Location for a Perfect Getaway

We arrived later than expected and hit a snag with GPS directions...We called Brett and he was truly right on the spot to help guide us the last few yards in the darkness. We decided to sleep upstairs and were rewarded with a glorious sunrise alarm clock rising out of the water! No it's not a 5 star hotel with exotic amenities... But if you truly want a rustic cabin with all the luxury you really need and a view that will blow you away...Pick the Navy Cabin...you will not be sorry! You are a great host Brett...Thanks for making our 22nd anniversary an awesome one!

Restful and rejuvenating cabin vacay on the bay

The log cabin was charming and cozy with knockout views of the Chesapeake bay. The host Brett was extremely responsive, friendly, and truly cared about us having as comfortable a stay as possible. The wood fireplace was wonderful. The bed was surprisingly comfortable. There are cool books and knickknacks and interesting art everywhere to look at. Showers offered plentiful hot water and enough water pressure to rinse conditioner out of my hair. I spent most of my time on the back deck watching the sun rise and listening to the sounds of waves and seagulls. I loved that the cabin was dog friendly, but also was super clean and didn't smell like dogs at all! I would definitely stay at the cabin again and recommend it to friends and family. A fantastic way to start the new year.

Not a Five Star stay...a TEN STAR STAY!

Wow. Just Wow! My boyfriend and I found this amongst the hundreds of cabins on VRBO. We chose the right one. I understand why Brett is so careful who he rents to. The cabin and view are almost out of a scene from a movie. Rustic and cozy, but with all the amenities you need for a romantic weekend getaway. The fireplace is simply awesome, the view is to die for and the cabin overall is cozy and full of interesting items in every nook. It was perfectly warm during the cold February night and we can't wait to head back when the weather gets warm. Brett was a great host and ensured he checked in to make sure we arrived safely and had all we needed. If you are looking for slick and modern, this is not your place - but if you are looking for romantic, rustic, cozy and warm - you will not regret or forget the Navy Cabin.

A Very Special Place

We walked in.. headed right to the deck. I almost started to cry. You could not tell where the water ended and the sky began. Just like the description. A perfect place to unwind, relax and reset. The view from almost every window was amazing. The history of the community is fascinating. Yeah, it was a wee bit musty, but it's an old cabin on the water. Open the windows for a bit to air it out, and your golden. The bed was so comfortable. I actually slept, which is odd when I am away. My husband walked every morning, which is what he does when he is on vacation. We found some cute little coastal towns for lunch and dinner. Brett was amazing from start (I rented it 6 months ago) to finish. He was quick to respond any time I had a question. I want to visit this cabin in every season. I'd love to cozy up by the fire in the Winter. I hated to leave. We saw a bald eagle, and so many birds. The night sky was brilliant. It's not often you see so many stars. I highly recommend a stay at The Navy Cabin!! Thank you Brett!

Beautiful Quiet lovely Bayfront location

We had a wonderful time. I appreciated the access to 2 beaches within walking distance of the cabin (you’ll have to walk up & down steps) plus a community beach that offers easy access nearby. All of these beaches are good for fossil hunting. The night sky is dark and it’s a good stargazing spot. At night the sky is ink black. I’m grateful that Brett accommodated my request to bring my cat who was very happy relaxing in the cabin…She did not want to leave! This was my first time vacationing in the Chesapeake bay area, and I never saw so many butterflies in one place before. The weather is more humid than I thought because it’s near water. We enjoyed watching the large freighter ships heading to the Baltimore harbor from the deck. Very few or no mosquitos as long as you apply bug spray. I found a fossil or two. The area is a nice quiet peaceful area and beautiful as described. During our stay the weather was relatively hot. The AC did not quite reach the kitchen (a fan was available). The sleeping area downstairs is very cosy…. and offers a King size bed and it converts to two twin size beds if that’s what you need. This cabin would be great for a couple seeking a romantic getaway. The host Brett was very communicative and available anytime needed.

About the host

Hosted by Brett Raynor

Host profile image
I love Voice Acting, which I do for a living. "The Voice They'll Want to Hear" is my tag line. Doing that kind of work requires a quiet place to work, and the cabin is very suitable for that. I love the sense of peace when things are very still and quiet, especially when I'm in a beautiful area and and have it for myself for a while. When I'm at the cabin myself I love looking at the water while I work at the dining room table (warning - it can be distracting!), reading out on the deck, watching TV while there's a fire in the fire place, and auditioning downstairs in my home-made sound booth. I love hosting people who will love the peace and beauty of my cabin and the area just as much as I do. Nature lovers, peace lovers, tree/plants/wildlife lovers. Please come for a stay.

Why they chose this property

This cabin was owned by a close family friend, and I had been visiting it since I was a child. It is in a community known for it's focus on nature, quietness, wildlife, strolling the beach, easy hikes and enjoying life surrounded by nature. Over the years many July 4th and Thanksgiving holidays meals were spent there at the dining room table looking over the water, and it just became the perfect wonderful getaway place. When it was offered for sale, I purchased it because my heart is so full of warm memories of family and fun here.

What makes this property unique

Cozy. Quiet. Nature. Beauty. Water. Wildlife. Fire place. Rustic log cabin with modern amenities, on a cliff, on the water, in a forest. Family gatherings on Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. More memories from my childhood than I can count. Come and enjoy.
