About this property

Pretty town house Dinan, Brittany

This is a pretty little 19th Century house located within the walls of the medieval town of Dinan in Brittany.
Its position in 'Le Jardin Anglais' (The English Garden) and beside the magnificent St Saveur Basilica is quite unique. Only a few minutes walk from the centre of the town with its restaurants, crepêries, shops and bars, it is nevertheless a peaceful and idyllic area. The house has been renovated to a high standard and is beautifully furnished and well equipped. The main living area is on the first floor so that the views of the church and the garden can be enjoyed. It includes: a modern kitchen, a lounge area with multi language TV, DVD and hifi stereo, a dining area and a mezzanine office area with wifi. There are two double bedrooms, one large on the ground floor with en-suite bath, and one smaller on the top floor with en-suite shower. Although very compact, the space within the house is well designed and is ideal for one or two couples.

Dinan Town: Dinan is an architectural gem, ringed by 2,700 metres of ramparts. Its historic streets contain 15th and 16th Century half-timbered houses as well as Renaissance residences, Romanesque and Gothic churches and ancient chapels and convents.

The view from the Jardin Anglais is quite breathtaking, looking down on the ancient port and the magnificent viaduct which spans the River Rance.

A strenuous but rewarding walk is from the town to the port via the steep Rue du Petit Fort, one of the oldest streets in Dinan.

The town has over 35 eateries ranging from no frills bars to traditional creperies to cordon bleu restaurants.

Each Thursday there is a large market for fresh vegetables, cheese, bread and all sorts of other gastronomic delights.

Northern Brittany: Dinan lies 20 kilometers due south of the spectacular northern Brittany coastline. There are many beautiful beaches and resorts to explore including the historic fortified port of St Malo which is 35 minutes drive and the lovely seaside town of Dinard only 30 minutes away.

The capital city of Brittany is Rennes which is 50 minutes drive to the south, and well worth a day visit.

Inland Brittany is steeped in history and there are many fascinating places to visit including the fortress town of Fougeres and the towns and villages that skirt the River Rance.

The townhouse is in a wonderful location and has all the facilities needed. We enjoyed our stay, but need to be "stair fit" as the main living space is on the first floor. Car parking close by is quite expensive - up to 30 Euros per day, this drops to 6 Euros per day after the first 24 hours of you don't use your car. (Free parking is quite some distance away.)

Response from VrboOwner on 29 May, 2026
The car park is very convenient and we do encourage guests to park there after unloading at the house, right outside. The charges are determined by length of stay, eg €62.20 for 24/24 access over 7 days and a ticket can be purchased at the machine once parked in Centre Historique. I am sorry you had a problem the first day. It shouldn’t have incurred a €30 fee. We are pleased this was resolved and you had a good week in Dinan.

This lovely house is exceptional, as it has thecharm of a Medieval exterior with all the modern comforts we could need . The location was the best - just steps away from shops and cafes but at the edge of the city by the medieval wall. Much less foot traffic and lots of quiet . Hearing the nearby church bells was a treat. Can’t wait to stay here again! Thank you Rob and Jacci.

We had a lovely time over Christmas at Jacci and Rob’s beautiful town house. Dinan is a real gem of a town, with lots of history and nice local shops. It was busy with visitors which added to the festive feeling. The house was perfect for us and very central being next to St Sauvuer church, the gardens and ramparts. We managed trips to Dinard and Rennes which were also very nice and interesting. You can park outside the house to drop off/pick up and then park your car in the secure underground car park a few minutes walk away. Everything has been thought of in terms of furnishings and kitchen equipment and we managed to cook a full Christmas dinner with duck rather than our usual goose. Our stay was made perfect by the beautiful cold and sunny weather we had throughout, perfect for walking and exploring. We will not hesitate to come back when visiting this area again.

This quant property is perfectly located to enjoy the full ambience of medieval Dinan. The owners and manager are very pleasant to deal with and we really appreciated the English touches, particularly with the entertainment system. Everything worked well and overall it was a most comfortable experience.

We really enjoyed our stay in Dinan. The location of the house is wonderful, especially with a dog (who is good at walking stairs)! There is a green area right on the doorstep and you can walk along the river in just a few minutes. The house manager is very helpful and has great tips for your stay! Many thanks again!

Second stay as good as the first

This was our fourth stay in Dinan and our second at Rob & Jacci’s place in Dinan, a city we like a lot, both for itself and as a base from which to explore NE Brittany and W Normandy. The use was immaculate as before, and unchanged so far as we could see. We hopeto come again!

Wonderful stay

Excellent location next to a 1000 year old beautiful basilica. Located close to everything in Dinan and also reasonable drives to places like Normandy, Mont St Michael, San Malo. We rented E bikes in Dinard for a great ride to beach and a castle. Strongly recommend!

A relaxing week in Dinan

We had a lovely week, just what we wanted after our daughters had finished their exams. The house was perfect, they loved the upstairs room and the view of the church was amazing. The dog enjoyed herself too! The location couldn't have been any better, beside the little park with amazing views and a lovely pub and cafe just 2 mins walk away, and central to the rest of town. We are already familiar with the area and love the nearby coastline and all the local markets.

Thank you Rachel - I am so pleased you all managed to relax. We originally bought the house for that very reason - to relax from running our busy company at home - and Dinan provided us precisely that! Now we still enjoy our regular stays and keeping a check on the place. We hope to hear from you again if you would like to return. Jacci

A well-placed little gem in Dinan

This is a lovely apartment; everything was beautifully done…and so much thoughtful attention to detail everywhere. The owners have compiled excellent information about the apartment and the town. The location is fantastic: peaceful and quiet. You can easily walk to everything. NOTE: be sure to get clear, specific directions to the apartment and also to the correct parking garage. We had a very difficult time with both upon our arrival but finally got it figured out. All in all this is a very special and charming place; we felt very lucky to have found it. Thank you, Jacci et Rob!

Hi Dorrit, Thank you for your kind comments. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the house and the town. Dinan is undergoing major improvements to further pedestrianise the area and improve water drainage. The constant alterations to road access while these works are ongoing has made it difficult to give reliable arrival instructions. It appears that Place St Sauveur is where the activity is centred now and driving here and to the car park is easier again. Cordialement! Jacci

Idyllic Holiday Home for two

Great location for seeing Dinan, as everything is on the doorstep, literally. Well equipped home, perfect for a couple and comfortable. There are some stairs in the property up to the living room/kitchen and second bedroom, so be prepared when taking shopping upstairs. A lovely little park outside the front door with views down to the port of Dinan. Plenty of restaurants and a good market on Thursdays. Well recommended holiday home.

Outstandingly beautiful and convenient location

Overlooking a small park, this little house is otherwise surrounded by ancient buildings, including the medieval St Sauveur basilica and the streets and squares of old Dinan. There's a most convenient shortcut past the chapel of what used to be a convent, now the town library, to the clean, secure car park. The owners have done a great job in equipping and decorating the house and supplying excellent directions and guides. Strongly recommended for one or two couples.

Perfect Location

A great location just a few minutes stroll from the very heart of the historic centre of this lovely town. Excellent underground parking also just a couple of minutes away at a very reasonable weekly rate; (access card provided by the property owner). The house was comfortable and the hall, lounge and kitchen areas were well presented. However, disappointingly the bedrooms and bathrooms were not as clean as they should have been.

Fantastic location

We stayed here for three nights to explore the town and the area. The location couldn't be beat, right next to the basilica and the town square. Parking was easy and convenient with the provided parking pass. The owner was extremely responsive and easy to deal with. The house itself was in great condition. If you are staying there, you should know that the second bedroom is on the top floor with a pretty steep staircase, but there is an ensuite bathroom. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely book again if we are in Dinan.

Charming house

Charming house opposite the basilica and a pretty park. Very quiet, well maintained inside. Warm welcome from the owners and their rep. Very central for walking in Dinan, and a nearby garage for parking. Note however that there are two rather steep internal staircases, could be a problem for some. Also the addition of a microwave and a washing machine would be a big plus. But overall a fine choice and we would stay here again.
Response from VrboOwner on 1 Apr, 2020
Thank you for your comments, and we are pleased you enjoyed your stay in Dinan. We have installed a handrail recently to assist with the small flight from the mezzanine to the first floor which did not have one but I agree the stairs are not ideal for anyone with mobility problems. My Mother, who is 85 and not sporty, manages perfectly however and insists on using the top bedroom - to enjoy the views. We have also by coincidence recently purchased a basic microwave and although this takes up an amount of surface space in the kitchen area it seems a sensible addition. There are no plans to include a washing machine, we do have laundry facilities in the town, but if required Sean may be able to help with a load during a fortnight stay for future guests if they are interested I can ask. Quiet and beautiful spot in the centre of Dinan

Small three storey house overlooking the basilica and English garden. Kitchen and living room on first floor approached by open tread staircase which did not deter our cocker spaniel. Bathroom next to bedroom on ground floor was filled by a huge bath, difficult to negotiate! Owner, Jacci, was very helpful with driving instructions and parking.

Very Comfortable Home in a Perfect Location

We loved staying in this home! As others have already indicated, the location is amazing! It is so nice to be able to just step outside and be in the heart of Dinan, a lovely town. We especially liked getting up early and walking around seeing the shops getting ready to open. And the views out the front windows are stunning. The kitchen is well-stocked with everything you might need. The sitting area is very comfortable for relaxing. And the beds and linens were high quality. The manager who met us at the home was very helpful and friendly. There are stairs that are quite steep, but we managed them just fine. We highly recommend this property.

A month in Dinan

My wife and I decided to stay for a month in Brittany and chose this ideally located apartment in the Dinan Historic Centre. It is situated on the lovely Jardin Anglais and is 100 metres from the city wall overlooking the Rance River valley. With the exception of a newly opening B&B nearby, it is the only apartment situated on the garden and an easy walk to shops, cafes, grocery stores and launderettes. It is next to the Basilica, which thankfully does not chime during sleeping hours. We had a fair amount of cool, wet weather in May, but the house manager Cecily kindly came by to refresh our linens every 7-10 days. The kitchen was quite adequate to cook a variety of meals, with several spices and condiments available. There was a wealth of information on the area and there is underground parking available, which is a huge plus. We felt quite at home and were sorry to leave--thanks again to Jacci and Rob!

Everything was fantastic

This is obviously a second home that is being rented out rather than a house bought to rent out for an income, and it shows. There are lots of nice, thoughtful, little touches throughout. The photos and descriptions are accurate and although quite small, it was very comfortable and cosy for the three of us. We have been using VRBO for many years and this is definitely one of the best choices we have made. I won't go into too much detail about the house and the area as other reviews already cover this. The only added information I would offer would be to say that "Cozy" restaurant was fantastic. The only extra thing I'd ask from the owner - tell us where to buy the wine that was left for us - I'm not a wine connoisseur - but I do enjoy wine and that was a very nice bottle of red - thank you.

Definitely a good choice!

At the end of May, we spent nine nights in Jacci and Rob's old, small, charming house. You immediately notice that the hosts themselves are frequent guests in the house: everything is available in sufficient quantities, nothing is rationed as is often the case in holiday apartments. The living room on the first floor with the kitchenette is optimally utilised and furnished to make you feel at home – even rainy days can be spent there very comfortably. We slept very well in the actually very small bedroom under the roof, after we had got used to the limited space. If you want more space, you can sleep in the bedroom on the ground floor. It has significantly more space and a luxurious bathtub instead of a shower. For us (aged 69 and 78), the two relatively narrow and steep staircases were no problem, but this may be different for people with health problems. The location right next to the English Garden with its famous view of the Rance and the port of Dinan and right next to the Basilica of Saint-Saveur is priceless. You walk out of the house and you are in the historic old town.Despite this hot spot location, it was quiet. The parking subscription card provided by Jacci and Rob is also invaluable. The car park is on the other side of the basilica and only a two-minute walk away.Unfortunately, only 1,500 characters are allowed here. Therefore, our conclusion is:We can definitely recommend Jacci and Rob's house!

Perfect Vacation

The small medieval town of Dinan is a real gem (with its abundance of old authentic buildings and small lanes and places and the spectacular view over the river „Rance“ and the port) and Dinan House is the icing on the cake: an outstanding location - probably the best holiday-accomodation we ever rented in decades. The house itself provides a lovely atmosphere with lots of charming details and a very pleasant mixture old and modern furnishing -mostly far above standard. The location next to the „centre historique“ - though surprisingly calm and quiet - gives easy access to everything you could wish for: numerous cafés, bars, restaurant of every level, boulangeries, a boucherie, epiceries and small supermarkets can be reached on foot. The „Jardin Anglais“ almost makes up for the lack of an individual garden. Enjoying a meal after a eventful day out while sitting at the table and looking at the „Basilique St.Saveur“ and the „Jardin Anglais" through the open window: absolutely heaven. The owners supplied us with extremely well organized and helpful informations. Communication always was pleasant. The parking card was very convenient and the contactless access to the house via a key-safe worked very well. A pity we didn’t meet Sean -the house manager-personally, due to pandemy restrictions. We strongly recommend Dinan House and consider booking it again in the future!

We are France addicts! We love the culture, the food, the architecture.

Why they chose this property

Brittany is so close to home and yet so far away. Brittany Ferries operate regularly to St Malo and then the drive to the house is just 30 minutes. Dinan is so lovely, so friendly and so historic. The house is in possibly the best location in the town. What more could we ask?

What makes this property unique

We sit in the living area on the first floor and never fail to pinch ourselves when we look out of the window at the view of the beautiful gardens and magnificent St Sauveur Basilica. Then in the evening we walk out to a bar or restaurant just a few minutes away. In nearly twenty years we have never tired of visiting.
