The Authentic Island Experience:
Casa by the Sea offers a unique, immersive nature experience rather than a traditional, cookie-cutter resort stay. We pride ourselves on offering an unforgettable, budget-friendly adventure for travelers with an open mind and a love for nature.
Because we are immersed in a vibrant ecosystem, you will experience the authentic sounds of the island. You will likely hear free-roaming roosters, tropical birds, and frogs at night. The house is set far back from the road behind a natural vegetation buffer, ensuring excellent privacy and a wonderful "treehouse" feel.

House Rules & Disclosures:

* Maximum Stay: 7 nights.

*BBQ Policy: You must use the provided cast iron skillet on the gas propane BBQ. A $150.00 cleaning fee will be charged if food is cooked directly on the grill grates without the skillet.

* Hawaii Wildlife & Gecko Disclosure: Embracing the Tropics—Our treehouse is located in a lush, natural environment near Hilo & Volcano. You will likely encounter local geckos during your stay. In Hawaii, geckos are a celebrated and welcome part of the local ecosystem. Geckos are beneficial to Hawaii homes primarily because they act as natural, free pest control by eating common household bugs like cockroaches, ants, spiders, and mosquitoes. They are completely safe, clean, and viewed as harmless roommates and cultural symbols of good luck and protection!

* Resident Cats & Property Wildlife:
* Resident Cats (Nala & Torte): We maintain a managed feeding station on-site for my two friendly, fully socialized resident cats as well as a small feral colony which most likely you will not encounter.
* Cat House Rules: Nala & Torte are strictly outdoor cats. Please keep doors securely closed to prevent them from slipping inside. You may see them roaming the property—they love hanging out and sleeping on the deck! Please be kind to them, but do not feed them or allow them inside the rental house at any time.
* Treats & Feeding: The cats are on a strict, healthy diet. Please do not feed them human food or table scraps. If you would like to give them approved treats, just reach out.
* Important Safety: Please do not lock the cats inside the rental or any downstairs enclosed areas when you close up.
* Local Wildlife: You may also see wild chickens and roosters roaming the property. For everyone's safety, please do not feed or disturb any of the local animals.
* Property Security: For guest safety and property protection, exterior security cameras are active on the grounds only. They are located at the property entrance/driveway, the front door/steps, the cat station (staff only), and the back propane shed (staff only). There are no cameras inside the home.

* Registration: STVR-19-365359 / NUCR-20-1838

Great Hawaiian Home

This was a great Hawaiian home! It was cute & unique. My kids loved it. We ate meals and lounged on the porch daily. Everyone loved the outdoor showers. Highly recommend for those looking to immerse themselves in the Hawaiian vibe!

A truly serene and special place — set on a park-like property surrounded by lush greenery and soothing jungle sounds. The home was spotless, private, and beautifully decorated with thoughtful touches everywhere. The outdoor space was fantastic for relaxing and unwinding. Just a short walk leads to dramatic ocean cliffs — rough, wild, and absolutely breathtaking. Perfect spot to recharge and connect with nature. Our kids never stopped exploring and can't stop talking about the Tree House.

4/10 Poor

I’ve been renting homes on VRBO for years and have never had a host experience as bad as this. I’ve never felt as unwelcome or as uncomfortable in a rental. The lack of privacy needs to be investigated we were remotely monitored by the host the entire time; so badly that we ended up packing up and left the property early. When I made a complaint with VRBO she immediately went and gave me a bad guest review as retaliation. The actual property grounds are nice but you can only use the ac unit for max 4 hours a day which we only found out upon check in and there are so many live lizards and bugs in the home it was hard to sleep as they were on our headboard in the loft room, the cats on property are sick and we’re barfing on the deck we were trying to use. We are cat owners and felt so bad for them. If you have problems climbing stairs this is not the place for you, even my healthy husband fell on the steep stairs going to loft. But bottom line what ultimately made us pack up and leave a fully paid rental early was the experience with the host, Christina.

We take guest feedback seriously and strive to provide an honest, transparent experience. Because this review contains several inaccuracies, we want to clarify the facts for future travelers:Property Expectations: Our home is a unique, open-air jungle treehouse designed for travelers seeking an authentic Big Island ecosystem, not a traditional corporate hotel. As detailed explicitly in our listing, this includes a tropical climate, stairs, and portable A/C units. Local wildlife like geckos are a natural, harmless part of this environment.AC Use & Hurricane Context: The guests completed their entire stay. During an impending tropical storm system (Hurricane Lala), they chose to run multiple A/C units continuously 24/7, despite local energy guidelines. Requesting a full refund after checkout while thousands of local residents were actively losing power was unfortunate, but we remained communicative throughout.Exterior Cameras & Privacy: We strictly respect guest privacy. There are zero interior cameras. All four exterior security cameras are fully disclosed in our listing. The cameras the guest referenced are located in clearly marked, restricted employee-only zones, which the guests entered without authorization.We take great pride in our property and our hospitality. Because this review relies on inaccurate claims to demand a refund after a full stay, we are actively working with Vrbo Support to formally dispute this unfair review.

The treehouse was pretty cool. It's in a quiet neighborhood a block or so from the ocean. At night the place turns into a jungle experience with all the sounds you might expect (frogs, birds, etc). The grounds is beautiful and the place is very unique. It reminded me of our Northwoods cabin but with all the luxuries of a modern home (ac, Internet, huge shower, nice kitchen). The only things I didn't like were the gate, which they ask you to close and lock. It was just kind of a pain. The water situation was a little weird with needing to get drinking water (they told us not to drink the tap water). That's probably more of a big Island thing though or common to that area. The other thing was the cats. Two of the cats didn't get along with each other so I didn't like them getting to close to me or the kids. By themselves they were fine but they did tend to hang by the door and make noise. To be fair I'm not a huge cat person and the host was upfront about it. Overall it didn't detract too much from our experience, although I think it prevented us from utilizing to porch more. Also, the place only has one exit as the front patio door is labeled non functional. That is something I found to be a little inconvenient. All things considered it's a cool place. The host was very responsive and helpful with ideas, etc. Location is great if you are considering something near Hilo or Volcano National Park.

What a wonderful property! The location was far enough out to feel secluded but also close to groceries and restaurants. The property is absolutely beautiful and the hosts were amazing, great communication. I loved the cats on the property and spent extra time outside giving them lots of love, they were the sweetest. Overall, we had a lovely time and would highly recommend this location to others. Mahalo

We are looking forward to meeting people from all over the world. Mahalo

Why they chose this property

I chose this Neighborhood because it has neighborhood watch it is for families and located 1 block to the paradise cliffs. I also chose it because of all the 1 acre lots. Every home has 1 acre plus and you are not super close to your neighbors there is lots of privacy.

What makes this property unique

My property is unique because it is made of all Ohia Logs and has a Treehouse Vibe to it. The woodwork is amazing and truly beautiful. Book your stay now..
