About this property
The Cottage at Ozark Highlands Farm
Our hand-built stone cottage is rustic, simple, straight-forward, and perfect for those seeking a stress-free short getaway from city living or for longer term lodging (that comes with a significant discount.)
PLEASE NOTE: I cannot accommodate any animals inside the house. Because we are a working farm, there will sometimes be farm activities going on while guests are here; and a few people, including my handyman & my part-time caretaker, as well as my husband and I may come and go discreetly as we take care of the land and the animals. The nearest neighbor is a long stone's throw away, so the peace, quiet, and beauty of this farm will gently roll away the demand and stresses of life.
With 4 beds and 1 bathroom, we can comfortably accommodate 4 people, however, for families or groups that don't mind close quarters, we have two cots, so we can adapt to six people in a pinch. (Keep in mind that this is a former hunting cabin - very comfortable, but not luxurious.) There is good wifi and a smart TV.
An efficient kitchen allows you to create custom meals – be warned - it has a lower than normal ceiling (about 7'.) The spacious loft has two twin beds w/ room for two airbeds - note: it is accessed by a steep, narrow, low-clearance stairway. There are two steps up into both the bathroom and kitchen. The bathroom has a shower – no tub.
A most interesting, fun time to visit The Cottage is during our annual spring kidding season when the fields are literally "jumping" with baby goats. Normally kidding occurs during May and June.
Ask about our discount for active clergy & military personnel. We are located just off of I-44 south and east of Carthage – due east of Joplin, with easy access to area attractions (complete directions will be given after booking. )

About the host
Hosted by Merre Putnam
I love: creating and designing things, learning, gardening, reading, anything having to do with off the beaten path adventure, fun, uniqueness, and bargains. Re-purposing things and working with people is energizing to me, but the best is hanging out with our 8 children (4 original and 4 spouses) and ten grandchildren. I enjoy traveling and staying with other Airbnb hosts.
Why they chose this property
Peace and serenity are the operative words to describe this beautiful property. Much of it is arable crop land and pasture for our goats and our neighbor's cattle with several acres of trees and a laughing creek that borders the western edge.
What makes this property unique
The stone Cottage has been reclaimed from years of neglect and now resembles a quaint English country place, but the main draw is the quiet beauty, plus interaction with the animals that refreshes body and soul.
