This place is beautiful, quiet, and a nice break away from crowded Monterey, but still close enough to enjoy all there is to do. We will definitely stay here again!
Quiet, comfortable clean stay. It is a beautiful home and the owner is very friendly and communicates well. We have stayed before and we will gladly stay again!
We stayed here for 3 nights during a 3.5 week trip which included 7 different accommodations. This one was voted as the family favorite!
We saw deer on the hill from the livingroom, relaxed in the hot tub, had restful sleeps, and the place had so much character!
We can't wait to come back!!
Robert is a very clear and good communicator. Everything was as he described. Wonderful location. Thx

Great retreat with canyon views
Deep in the canyon, close to nature. Well equipped and stylishly furnished. Could linger on the deck for days. Our hosts were very polite and easy going. Highly recommended.
We needed to chill out and get away from it all & this property was exactly what the doctor ordered for a mid-week escape. Putting this on the top of the get-a-way from it all list.
Robert was an excellent host - he met us when we arrived, showed us around the property, made sure we knew how to contact him and left us to enjoy our stay. The 2 bedrooms were perfect for us and our teenage daughter. The home is situated well for visits to monterey, big sur and santa cruz. Salinas and Laguna Seca are just down the road. And the hot tub is wonderful after a day of hiking.
What a lovely place! We stayed for three nights, to be close to a large cycling event held nearby. The home was wonderfully clean, delightfully cozy, so comfortable, and the property was just beautiful. Robert, our host, was helpful and kind and we loved his pup, Lily! Thank you so much for a perfect weekend!
Beautiful, quaint, solitude. My husband and 2 children just stayed 4 nights here at Robert's place and couldn't have been happier. It is a short 20 minutes to Monterey and Carmel. We had the best of both worlds; the trees and the ocean! We have stayed in downtown Monterey in past trips but wanted to change it up this stay and I am so happy we did. We can't wait to come back to this little piece of paradise.

Very nice accommodations. Peaceful and beautiful
Only complaint is the price. Starts off half what you actually pay. Cleaning fee, insurance, more than 2 people fee, etc.

Thanks for your review Vincent. So delighted that you had a great time during your stay in our Monterey Bay Guest House. Your concern about the high cost gives me an opportunity to explain to future guests that they have two options when booking a vacation stay. The first option is to book directly through the owner, which is the less costly route.
The second option is to book through VRBO as you did. You only see the VRBO rate quote, not the owner quote, when you first inquire about a reservation. By e-mailing and paying directly with the owner, you'll save paying the non-refundable damage insurance fee ($59) and the service fee (which is between 10% to 15% of the booking fee) on any VRBO quote.
Many of our guests book through VRBO, similarly as you did, as they don't realize they have the option to book through the owner and save $100, generally more, per reservation.
Pertaining to your remark about the additional guest fee above 2, we do that to provide the lowest rate to 1 or 2 guests. Larger groups of 3, 4, or 5 require the use of additional rooms, so we charge a minimal fee of $15 per person per day above the 2 guests to cover the additional expenses.
The location of this rental is beautiful and just as stated in the VRBO rental listing. However the property itself was unsanitary with stains on the bedding, pillows, and mattress pad. There was black mold in the skylight and in the shower. Clearly the property had not been cleaned throughly throughout the home. We were only able to tolerate it one night as the property owner did not meet us at check-in so we could have a walkthrough with him. We have contacted both the peoperty owner and VRBO to request a refund for part of the week. The owner claims the property was clean and refuses a refund. In 20 + years of renting through VRBO we have never seen a property so unclean.

Not a very credible review when you look back over other guest reviews over the last 15 yrs and find no one has ever had a problem with cleanliness. Our cleaning service is very thorough and has an outstanding reputation among premier property managers.

Beautiful Setting, Great Location
We had a great stay at this house the week between Christmas and New Year's! The owners kindly left us a bottle of wine and a tin of Christmas cookies. The house is in a perfect location--out the bedroom windows, you look out onto hills and mountains and trails. You can get to the trails right from the house, though it's a very steep climb up and down. It's also a short drive to Salinas, Monterey, and Carmel, and we also went down to Big Sur one day--all easy (and beautiful) drives from the house. The house has an unusual layout--we rented the upstairs bedroom only, so we had to go downstairs to shower, and the common area only has one small seat, so we hung out upstairs in the bedroom (it also has a TV) most of the time. The kitchen is minimal--a fridge, hot plate, and microwave (no stove or oven.) We also found the heat a little hard to regulate--it was cold at night when we were there, and the upstairs was nice and warm but the downstairs was still chilly. All in all, it was a great trip and I recommend the house!

Thanks for taking the time to do a review & recommending our guest house vacation rental. Delighted you had a great time while vacationing in our beautiful county. The guest house as advertised does not have a full kitchen, and is stated as such on VRBO. This is a restriction imposed by the county, over which we have no control. The upstairs is a large studio area with a sitting room. The space has a king size bed with views of the outdoors on 2 sides & stars visible at night through the overhead skylight above the bed, a sofa that seats 2 or 3, and a fireside chair. There is an extra wicker chair in the closet nearby to add to the seating. Downstairs as advertised is the exercise room. This was not designed as the “common area” with space enough to accommodate a living room. Sorry you did not find enough seating in this room but due to space limitations we didn’t have enough room to accommodate the exercise equipment & a seating area. Again thanks for the feedback which gives us an opportunity to clarify our listing description.

Great stay in Monterey
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cute guest house. It is definitely nestled back in the mountains but it is very sweet and peaceful! We stayed here for 7 nights and ventured out to Carmel, Big Sur, Monterey, and Pinnacles Natonal Park. The trip to Monterey is very quick and easy. Robert and Vicki were very accommodating, we had everything we needed and they were available via phone or text, any time we needed them! The house is very close in proximity to their home, but we were not bothered or felt awkward at any time. This cute little house was perfect for our group of 4. We were comfy and cozy. Note though that there is no centrally located living room. There are tv's in each room so it felt slightly cut off from each other. But after long days out and about it was not bad going to our rooms and having separate tv's! All in all our stay was great! We really appreciate all that Robert and Vicki provided for us! If we were to return we'd definitely cosnider staying here again if our circumstances allow! Thanks again!

Thank you for alerting us to the need for a living room. We took your suggestion and converted the exercise room into a very nice sitting area with two chairs and a sofa. The sofa is B&B Italia that easily converts into a twin bed, making an additional sleeping area when needed. Much better room and much greater use when compared to its former exercise designation.
We really enjoyed our short Thanksgiving getaway here. It’s 20ish minutes away from Monterey downtown and Carmel, so there are many cool things to do and nice restaurants nearby. It is also tucked away from the busy downtown so it’s quiet and close to the nature.
The property managers Robert and Vicki are easy to communicate.
Thank you for the great experience! Recommend!!
Exceptional property, landscaping, and amenities, with a focus on relaxation and privacy. Directions and owner communication were ideal. Already planning to return next year! Curious guest: If you need a reset, this place will breathe life back into you.
Wonderful 2 bedroom hone converted from a carriage house. Imaginatively decorated and fun atmosphere, Loved the hot tub and the quiet.. We were a bit further away from Carmel than we had anticipated but thoroughly enjoyed the stay, the owner, and the set up. One bathroom but the two bedrooms worked well for two women friends.
I had to come to the Monterey area for work (Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance) and was at a lose where to stay having never been there before. Hotels and accommodations around Monterey were packed and I did not want the chaos of traffic and congestion. This home exceeded my expectations. It was so beautiful and quiet and after a long day at events with people, a sanctuary. It was well maintained and everything posted about it was accurate and true. Great communication with owners and I could not have been happier. Thank you!
We loved every minute of our stay in the house. It was the perfect size for our family of four. We truly enjoyed the quiet of the area and the beautiful outdoor garden area. We cooked meals each night and played UNO in the little living space. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone headed to the area.
We were racing at Laguna Seca. The location was perfect for short transitions back and forth to the track. It was a charming place to relax in the evenings especially the outside patio and garden.
Our family had a lovely time at this cottage which is located up in the hills but still a convenient 15 min from Monterey. We enjoyed the hot tub and patio area immensely. It was fun to see foxes and deer right nearby the cottage! Be aware there is limited cell service there, so pull up the check-in instructions before you arrive.
