Great stay! This fantastic property boasts an unbeatable location and stunning views. The furniture and bedding are top-notch, and the gas fireplaces—both indoors and out—create the perfect cozy atmosphere for chilly nights.It has all the amenities you could hope for. An espresso machine for lattes would be a nice bonus (perhaps a Breville Barista, since Bill’s a fan—worth adding to the wish list!). Owner Bill is super helpful and responsive; he’s done an amazing job curating luxury outdoor seating and lush gardens. His recent bathroom and shower updates fully address past guest concerns, showing he truly acts on feedback. Oh, and the radiant floor heating is incredibly cozy.

Great for a family

We had an amazing stay at this beautiful property and so close to downtown Carmel and to nearby grocery store. Bill was super helpful and gave us lots of tips of the local area. We would definitely stay here again!

Magical garden

The property was comfortable and as stated. We spent 90% of our time in the yard which had a lovely view and filled throughout with interesting and magical plants birdhouses fountains and like. Owner very nice and helpful.

Not very pet (or young child) friendly. There was alot of knick-knacks. So much that we felt we had to be very careful not to knock something off a table or stand or something and break it. We did not leave our dog alone, as we were worried he might accidentally break something. It was okay, though, as the beach and town are very dog friendly! Good location, and comfortable.

Excellent property, wonderful outdoor area, Jack and Jill shower was ackward. I felt that the listing showed two complete (with shower) bathrooms. My fault I should have checked more carefully. Only blemish on a terrific property. I can’t imagine that as attentive as bill is and how relatively easy this would be to change that bill won’t do it.

Exactly What We Were Looking For!

This property has everything you need from a great stay--excellent host, clean + comprehensive amenities, a gorgeous view with plenty of natural light, and a great location! <5 min drive to downtown Carmel and Carmel beach, and Bill is super responsive as a host, he got us everything we needed. We loved the hot tub, watching the sunset from the porch, using the kitchen for big meals, and lounging on the couch in the evening. 5/5 recommend, and hopefully we'll be back!

Great outdoor space, comfy beds and updated kitchen. Beautiful ocean view from master and living room. Outdoor patio spaces are really lovely and peaceful. Lots of comfy outdoor furniture.

Beat the heat!!!

We loved the property and the weather. We honestly just wanted cooler weather for a few days. The property and grounds were great and proximity to Ocean ave was great. We loved the art and the landscaping. Got some ideas while there too. See ya again one day!!

Stunning Property

Absolute best location to be able to have an incredibly close location to all that Carmel has to offer as well as being able to quickly drive up the coast to SanFransusco or down the coast to Big Sur. Bill was very accommodating with having about every amenity you could possibly think of at your fingertips. Very relaxing, fireplace, dog friendly and close to it all. For an upscale visit to Carmel, this is the place.

Beautiful garden setting with distant view of water

Beautiful well equipped home with hot tub and grill. Setting is fabulous with gorgeous landscaping, flowers, succulents etc .. Great lounging areas and umbrellas to shade you from the sun. Close to town and east drive to various beaches. If have pets, I highly recommend Carmel beach for off leash and Monterey state park beach for leashed walking as there’s also a great recreational trail there as well. Easy ride to Big Sur.. Pfeiffer beach is dog friendly and beautiful as well.

Nice place but there is only one shower.

Property is nice, great location and well maintained but the jack-and-jill shower really made it difficult with two couples. You can hear everything going on in the other bathroom and really takes away any privacy. Also the listing says 3 bathrooms but there are only 2.

Amazing property!

If you read the reviews below (as I did) from past renters they are accurate on every level! This house is a 10 out of 10! The owner has thought of everything to make his house comfortable, immaculate and a home away from home experience! We spent 2 days/nights there and I would rent it again in a heartbeat. Comfortable beds with luxurious linens, plush bath towels, lovely toiletries, robes, fireplaces indoor and out, hot tub, and fenced in for our small dog. Also a gourmet kitchen with coffee & tea station, and high end appliances. The landscaping is beyond incredible - with something interesting to look at every few feet. Our weather wasn't conducive to spending too much time on the beautiful deck, but owner has plenty of loungers, chairs, tables, bbq and a fire pit to enjoy the view and the peacefulness if you desire to be outside. We never took the long hike to town, but you can drive to it and the ocean strand within 5 minutes. This place showcases the best of Carmel!

Stunning property!

We had a wonderful weekend here celebrating our anniversary and this house couldn't have been more perfect. The pictures do not do justice to the stunning views sweeping down towards the water in the distance and the feeling of privacy both in the house and on the amazing patios. The huge windows in the house are delightful. The landscaping is a work of art. In addition to the beauty all around you, Bill and his wife are excellent hosts and very much want to ensure that you have everything you need. This home is perfect for a romantic getaway. Carmel's cooler summer temperatures are perfect for getting away from the heat and also perfect for soaking in the hot tub or sitting around the fire pit in the evening. The inside of the home is beautiful and comfortable. The architectural details and choice of furnishings are as far from a bland impersonal hotel as you can be. We loved our stay!

Pros and Cons

This property has significant pros and cons. While we thought we were renting the entire place, there are actually three homes on the grounds: one in which the owner resides and two rental units. We were required to meet with the owner to gain entry; we also had daily interactions with him on the property or by text. We could see the other rental unit's yard from our balcony and were asked not to use the balcony when the renters were outside for privacy reasons. As to our backyard, the landscaping and water features were incredibly beautiful but the furniture was covered, rendering the yard absolutely unlike the photo and making our portion of the property somewhat dismal. The owner requested that the furniture remain covered when not in active use to protect it from bird droppings. There were no droppings on the covers. Since the yard was visible from the main rooms, we ended up taking the covers off because it was simply too depressing otherwise. No droppings ensued during our 8 night stay.Also, the home is really 1 1/2 baths, as one of the bathrooms only has a shared shower.All that said, the home has an interesting art collection, an enchanting entry from the drive, a lovely view, and nice features throughout. The owner was also very welcoming of dogs and provided dog bowls and brushes for the stay.

Excellent stay. We have stayed before and didn’t consider staying elsewhere on our return trip. Owner very responsive. Very short drive (not really walkable) to all downtown attractions. There is a downstairs apartment. However, other than seeing them on their separate patio from the bedroom window, very quiet. Our patio, garden and hot tub are are completely private. Extensive outdoor seating with gas fire pit. Bedrooms are connected with a jack and jill like bathroom, with shower being the pass through. Not an issue for us and able to lock both sides for privacy. Peek a boo ocean views were pretty. Reserved parking spot right at the door. High end appliances, including washer and dryer. Lots of dishes, cookware, towels, robes. Direct TV in living room and one king bedroom.

Our Stay at this Property

The property was nice overall, however our overall experience was not good due to the following: - Property owner insisted on a lengthy walk through of the property (it somehow felt like we were being screened) - There are only 2 bedrooms, connected via a 'pass through' shower, which greatly hinders privacy - Very poor shower flow. Shower head needed replacing (property owner did this, with some hesitation) - Hot water ran out after one short shower - Property owner failed to point out how to operate the patio umbrella, even after an extensive tour of the house. He then claimed that I broke the umbrella while trying to open it, which could be true, but no way to know for sure. The point is he should have mentioned how to use the umbrella when we arrived! - Finally, guests beware - this is not a standalone home. The property owner and family (with child and dog) live right under the rental property and when they're on their patio, it gives the impression that you're sharing your stay with that family, and that the owner's presence is constantly felt.

Not a good value

My adult daughter and I stayed here for a last-minute getaway. The positives were the outdoor areas, location, and very comfortable beds/bedding. The decor was not our taste, but that is subjective and you may like it. What I really need to point out is how unusual the bathroom situation is and how uncomfortable it was for us - I can't even imagine how two couples could stay here. The one shower (which would be awful for 4 people to share) was okay for us, but the lack of any privacy in the bathrooms was extremely uncomfortable. I have stayed at may luxury rentals around the world, so I am not cheap by any means, but this rental cost was not a good value considering. Also, I didn't want such a huge deposit hold on my credit card (5-10 times higher than similar properties) so I paid the extra deposit insurance. This was my choice, but didn't help the total cost of staying there. Again, I have stayed in many home rentals that are high-end and fully booked and I have never had to be out of a home by 10a (and was called at 10:05a by the owner as we were pulling out of the driveway...) This made our last morning a total rush and not relaxing at all. Oh, I just remembered that on our last morning, the owner had tree people working and using chainsaws at 8a. I realized that tree work needs to be done but this is not okay when you have guests!

This property is a very special Mid Century Modern design that was originally built in the early 60's and I have completely remodeled it with keeping the original design in mind and have done so with a tremendous amount of details through out both the inside as well as the exterior and the grounds.
