Prime location as you can walk to coffeehouse, boutiques, restaurants-- all just blocks away. The townhouse was roomy and beautifully decorated with bold, large-scale artwork. Smooth check-in and everything was as described.

Thank you Laura! We hope you had an amazing trip to Bluffton and enjoyed the wedding. Would love you have you back again in the future!
We found this home to be excellent. Everything was 100% as advertised. It is right in Old Town Bluffton and an easy walk to all the shops and restaurants. Check our Bluffton BBQ…….the food is excellent. Ted and his wife make you feel right at home. Take a walk down to the May River…..you’ll be glad you did. The Host were great, and easy to contact if needed…..we would certainly recommend this cottage…..
We were just a block away from the old town square; close enough to stroll to the shops and restaurants in old town Bluffton but far enough away that even Captain Woody's rocking band couldn't break the silence. The wife and I had a quiet room downstairs and the kids had plenty of room to stay and play upstairs. I even enjoyed cooking on the gas stove (when we weren't out eating the local seafood). Just a short drive to Burke's Beach on Hilton Head Island, which had plenty of public parking (free after 5:00).
I can’t say enough wonderful things about our stay at this cozy coastal gem! We spent a long winter weekend here, and it was exactly what we needed to escape the hustle and bustle. My husband and I both enjoyed the unique, fun decor of the home, and the location was next-to-none. There were so many quaint shops and cafes to explore nearby, and we loved discovering the town’s hidden gems. The host was incredibly responsive and made sure we had everything we needed, even checking in to make sure we were comfortable. We’ll definitely be back next year. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful and beautiful coastal getaway.
After immigrating from Germany in 1842, Mary Margaret Fuessel Riley (1841-1912) began a position as the governess with the Black Swamp plantation near Robertsville, SC. While there, she acquired provisions and became acquainted with Thomas Jefferson Riley, who worked at a local mercantile store. The two married in 1856 and set up their own general store and sawmill near Brighton, SC.
When the War of Northern Aggression broke out in 1861, Mr. Riley enlisted and was assigned to Fort McAlister. When Sherman’s army came down the peninsula to access Fort Pulaski, Riley’s picket was overtaken and he was wounded and captured, the only survivor of his picket. As Savannah was delivered to Lincoln as a Christmas present, Riley was taken to the cold island prison at Fort Delaware.
At the age of 24, Mary Margaret was running the store, the sawmill and raising two young daughters when she learned of her husband’s capture. She surmised that the Union troops would travel north to Columbia, destroying everything along the way, so she hid the sawmill blade in the Black Swamp. When the Union troops came to burn her house, she informed them that she had two brothers fighting for the North; they put out the fire and she made them lunch. She then packed up her daughters and gained passage from Hilton Head Island to Washington, DC.
In those days, anyone could gain access to the president by waiting in the lobby of the White House. In her meeting with Lincoln, her youngest daughter, Catherine, sat on Lincoln’s knee while she presented her case. She pledged that, if released, he would not raise a hand against the Union. Lincoln granted a release.
As the South rebuilt, Riley’s store and sawmill prospered, and Mr. Riley had recovered from his wounds well enough to father another daughter and a son. After he passed, Mary Margaret continued to run the business, and even was arrested for attempting to repossess her own logging steamer (women could not own such property at the time).
