About the host
Hosted by Tim Pennington
We live in Katy, Texas, but our hearts are in the Northern Hill Country of Texas. Gatesville is home to my ancestry where my Great Grandfather RE Meeks watered the streets with a water wagon every morning charging each storefront 25 cents. He later opened The Meeks Cafe in the town square. He purchased a dairy farm along Dodd's Creek selling milk locally and to the local army base Fort Hood during WWII. We strive to offer that same spirit of hospitality to honor the legacy of my Great Grandfather. His story is a feature of the local museum which is a must tour when you come to Gatesville.
Why they chose this property
The 100 year old homes are a nice change from our more modern concrete slab suburban twenty first century homes. Water Wagon House is also just a few blocks from the historic Raby Park and the downtown square. We love how quiet it is at night except for the occasional Spacex rocket testing happening in McGregor which is the next town over.
What makes this property unique
We have tried to make the house interesting with a mix of Texas history, American, hunting, while leaving the house as close to it's original form as possible. There is a huge map of the world in the center of the house where guests can dream of travel or simply learn more about geography. We have had international guests from Brazil to Norway stay at out place.
