About this property

Stargazer Yurt - Secluded Texas Glamping

Unplug under the wide Texas sky at Pennington Grove. This peaceful Hill Country climate-controlled yurt near Gatesville is perfect for quiet remote workdays or slow weekend escapes. Enjoy coffee on the private deck, reliable internet beneath the trees, evenings by the fire, and stargazing from the king-sized bed beneath the sky dome. A cozy retreat designed to help you slow down, reconnect, and recharge in nature.

Welcome to our offbeat boho yurt hideaway, tucked into the rugged beauty of Texas Hill Country at Pennington Grove. There is a second Airstream glampsite on the property offering its own unique experience that can be booked separately if you need additional accomodations.

Our yurt leans into a cozy, eclectic bohemian style with thoughtful touches throughout—like the wallpaper in the bathroom that’ll make you feel like you’re doing your business deep in the woods (in the best way possible).

Out here, the dark is really dark—on a moonless night, it feels like you've fallen off the edge of the modern world. Minimal outdoor lighting means the stars take center stage, especially when you switch off the interior lights and gaze up through the yurt’s clear dome. Turn off the AC display for a pitch-black night sky experience.

The back deck feels like a treehouse, wrapped around a couple of live oaks. From there, take in the ancient land—strewn with fossil-stamped rocks from when this part of Texas was a shallow sea. Throughout the seasons, the wildflowers put on a rotating color show, sharing space with prickly pear, yucca, and sturdy Ashe Juniper. Wildflowers make our place an ideal ecosystem for an apiary which is part of our working farm here. Bees are fascinating and essential to us humans and have perhaps the most important role.

We encourage you to wander. The land has stories to tell, whether through a hypnotic walk among blooming cactus or the unexpected thrill of finding an arrowhead or a geode (yes, you can keep them!).

You might hear the low thud of ordinance from a nearby army base or the futuristic rumble of rocket testing from SpaceX’s engine facility about 20 miles away. It’s all part of the wild blend of natural wonder and human ambition that makes this part of Texas so unique.

We love it here—and we hope you will too.

About the host

Host profile image
We live in Katy, Texas, but our hearts are in the Northern Hill Country of Texas. The land where Pennington Grove is located was part of a dairy owned by my great grandfather pre-WWII. He sold milk to Fort Hood and also owned a cafe in the courthouse square called the Meek's Cafe.

Why they chose this property

The land where Pennington Grove is located has been in my family for more than 100 years. The live oaks are fantastic, and the land is rich in sea life fossils from the age with the oceans covered this part of the state.

What makes this property unique

Pennington Grove is a private, nature-filled retreat with different stay experiences. It gets really dark here which places the stars and the moon center stage. We occasionally see fireflies at night and owls calling.
