Bellwood Cottage - Idyllic Catskills Getaway For All Seasons

Bellwood Cottage is perfect for couples, families, or groups of friends looking to get away from it all in an private, idyllic setting. Great for all seasons and close to skiing (20-40 min from Plattekill, Belleayre, Hunter and Windham), hiking, fishing, swimming holes, restaurants and quaint towns. Walk to downtown Roxbury and Kirkside Park via the scenic rail trail.

Close to all wedding venues - 4 miles to Roxbury Barn, 7 miles to Stone Tavern Farm, 4 miles to The Inn at West Settlement.

THE SPACE:
The cottage has recently been updated to inspire both relaxation and adventure - cozy, inviting, and nothing too fussy. Everything has been chosen with a combination of the Catskills and a vintage Americana aesthetic in mind. The kitchen has been completely redone, with subway tile, farmhouse sink, and butcher-block countertops (note - no dishwasher). It's cozy enough for a couple/ small family, but can accommodate bigger families or groups of friends, with a dining area, 3 living spaces (one a new sunroom with full wood paneling and another surrounding a gas fireplace), a large deck, yard, and newly installed outdoor shower with full nature views. There are 3 private bedrooms with full or queen beds and 1 pull-out couch in the sunroom. You'll also have all the comforts of home with flat screen TV, wifi, Apple TV, bluetooth stereo, and new gas grill. As the last house on a dead end road, the property is secluded, but also convenient to the Town of Roxbury, accessible via car or walking the rail trail right in front of the house.

Guest access:
Guests will have access to the full house, deck and property, including ~1 acre of lawn and ~3 acres of wooded land. Hike behind the house and make a day of walking or snowshoeing the snowmobile trails, or walk the rail trail to have breakfast in town or visit Kirkside Park (14 acre historic site and park).

Interaction with guests:
Only as needed. Our caretaker is available for any questions or needs you may have.

The neighborhood:
Located in the Town of Roxbury, with towns like Margaretville, Andes and Bovina nearby, as well as hiking, fishing, skiing, antiquing, kayaking, golfing and restaurants all a short walk or drive away.

Plattekill - 20 min
Belleayre - 35 min
Windham - 35 min
Hunter - 40 min

Shepard Hills golf course located in town (up the hill just behind the cottage), and more courses in the area.

Getting around:
You'll want a car to explore the area, but if you're meeting people, there are Trailways Bus Line stops in Margaretville and Grand Gorge, each about 15 minutes away, that offer service to and from the NYC area.

Other things to note:
Owners have a small dog that visits occasionally. The cottage is pet-friendly as long as you're pre approved and responsible. For those with young kids, there are child-proof locks on kitchen cabinets and a gate at the top of the stairs.

Great weekend in the mountains

Place was really clean and comfortable. Also was a plus that the place was pet friendly. The property is very quiet but about five minutes from the main town.Owners were very responsive. Would stay again!

Bellwood Cottage what a wonderful place

The house is on the end of the block, well maintained clean furnished with all that you need to cook with the only thing you need to bring is the food. Kim was very easy to reach and a pleasure to deal with. We will definitely return and stay at the cottage again.

Wedding in Roxbury

We attended a family wedding at the Inn at West Settlement. This location was perfect only 4.5miles away from our venue and a very easy drive. The cottage was very clean and neat. I especially appreciated the fact that the owners supplied shampoo, soap, toilet paper and paper towels. (Some rentals are not always well stocked with the basic supplies) It is a very peaceful private setting. I enjoyed the quiet mornings having coffee on the deck as I was listening to the leaves starting to fall off the trees.

Needs a new cleaning Crew!

We hope that our input encourages the owner to look for a new cleaning crew. The property is greatly placed with lots of land where you feel like you are on your own. The unit unfortunately was not cleaned and that is a primary request of any place you stay.

Great location but a smokers home

The property was located on a great piece of land and property. However, you could smell the cigarette smoke upon entering the front door. The house smelled of cigarette smoke so significantly that we had to immediately open all windows and doors. The walls, bed linens, couch cushions and anything with material strongly smelled of smoke, so much so it was difficult to sleep. The house is very cute, but the smell is difficult to remain in the home. Limited cooking pans and essentials in the home. There was a limited amount of soap and an old used sponge left for us to wash all our dishes as there is no dishwasher. Would have appreciated a new sponge and soap. No hand soap located in the bathroom upstairs. Would not recommend unless you are a smoker.

cottage in the woods

Cute cottage very secluded very private very peaceful surrounded by trees very much on the side of a mountain. Three bedrooms plus a pull-out sofa one level is half underground so a bit like a basement. Everything you would want the kitchen to living areas. Two full bathrooms one does not have a shower only a tub. Both floors have entrances one to an upper deck which is quite nice with seating the lower it's not very well maintained or cleaned. the inside was spotless very quaint. The bedrooms and bathrooms are not very well lit the light bulbs are too dim. We we're there for our son's wedding and it was very hard to do makeup and get ready without good lighting and you may want to bring a full length mirror. We purchased a brighter light bulb for our bathroom to do makeup. And then switched it back when we left.. overall we loved staying in this home over a hotel or motel any day. We felt very at home and you can also cook a full meal in the kitchen and or on the grill outside on the deck and there's a large picnic table on the deck and a large table in the living room it is very open concept which was also really nice. The property manager was very attentive to anything we needed and answered any questions by text immediately. And also there is a washer and dryer coffee pot toaster and pans large thing to do dishes they have everything you need in the cupboards. We had our elderly parents that are in their mid-80s and they enjoyed as well

Beautiful, tranquil cabin

My wife, two small dogs and I had a wonderful time at the bellwood!! The place was very welcoming with thoughtful touches throughout. We really loved the balcony and music corner! The cell reception wasn't great (to be expected and not a reflection of the place!) but the wifi was very strong and supported two of us on zoom meetings at the same time. The property manager was very responsive and friendly. We would absolutely stay again!

My husband and I (and dog!) had a wonderful time here. Great house and location. The house had everything we needed for our short stay. We really enjoyed hanging out on the deck, and listening to the record player inside. The property is beautiful and private. Comfortable

Cozy private cottage. We enjoyed the steep hike up behind the house. There are huge rock structures to explore and the woods felt magical. If you don't want such a steep climb, the walk on the old railroad in front of the house is less challenging. The creek that runs next to it makes for a peaceful stroll.

Great for a Fall getaway.

We stayed here to attend a nearby weKim, Kim, the manager, couldn’t have been nicer and actually gave us great directions when Waze sent us to a closed road. The house is very charming and just as advertised. I would definitely recommend it.

Lovely stay for a wedding weekend

Bellwood is a charming rental and the deck is lovely. We enjoyed playing cards (thoughtfully provided by the owner) before going to a wedding in Roxbury. The house was clean and comfortable and we loved the Catskills fishing map! The owners also left an amazing binder filled with local resources. Thanks for making our stay so pleasant!
