Great Little Piece of Paradise
This was a great condo for our family group of 8, and we look forward to visiting again the next time we come to South Padre. The beds were comfortable and the amenities were in abundance. There were even some boogie boards and beach toys included that weren't in the description that were a nice surprise. The pool was huge with plenty of seating and umbrellas available during the week (I imagine it will be packed on a busy summer weekend). The views from the balcony were amazing as well.
There were only a few negatives, and most of them were not in the owner's control (and none of them warranted me dropping the overall rating down):
1) I had to move my vehicle 3 days into our trip because suddenly previously unmarked spots in the parking garage were designated as valet parking for the neighboring Margaritaville hotel. Very odd that they are able to do that. I saw at least 10 other vehicles in the garage with "parking violation" tags because of this change.
2) The parking garage includes 4 Level 2 EV chargers (3 "Tesla" NACS and 1 "non-Tesla" J1772), but I could never get the J1772 charger working with my vehicle. I saw a few different Teslas that didn't seem to have any issues charging in these spots, so if you have a Tesla or NACS vehicle you're probably fine.
3) The 6th floor outside the condo unit smelled really bad. The unit itself was pristine and smelled great, but as soon as you left the unit you were hit with a really bad odor that never went away during our 4 days. Hopefully the building management gets this sorted out.
4) For some reason the toilet tank chain wasn't properly attached in either bathroom, so every other toilet flush it had to be fished out and re-attached.
Other information to know: no, you don't have access to the Margaritaville poolside bar. We were told by a staff member we could access it through the back gate, but it was restricted. You can, however, go to the Landshark Bar & Grill inside Margaritaville that has outdoor seating. This was a nice treat with great drinks and decent food. There is also Seaside Bar & Grill on the other side of the condo, but the only way to get to it is through the beach which requires walking all the way down the boardwalk and back up their walkway. Very small spot and the cocktails were weak, but the food was passable. Sapphire itself has a poolside bar that was built, but they aren't using it and it just sits there empty. Also, we got conflicting information on umbrella rentals. When I called the front desk, they said the "Sapphire" umbrellas on the beach were for unit owners only. But down at the beach I asked the attendant and he said we could have reserved them at the front desk. I still don't know which is correct. We ended up renting an umbrella and chairs from next door outside Margaritaville for ~$45 per day. One last thing, if you are going to be sleeping in the master bedroom, bring a sleep mask because that sunrise hits hard at 6am even with the blinds!
