About the host
Your host
We've been investment property owners for 30 years and new to short term rental industry. When we travel, we use VRBO properties often and think it is an excellent way for families to travel together.
Why they chose this property
The home is situated near the top of a hill, with a 180 degree view of the Black Hills. The home was built in 1979, at the edge of town back then. Since then, there was been significant development and our quiet 2 lane is now a 4 lane thoroughfare. Not to worry-our home is 100' off the road
What makes this property unique
This home was designed, engineered and built by Leonard Swanson, who was the head of the City of Rapid City Engineering and Planning department in the 60's and 70's. His expertise was put to work after the historic Flood of 1972 with much of the redesign of the greenways and residential planning being done under his leadership. The home had stayed in Mr. Swanson's extended family until 2017 when we purchased it. This hill was known as "water tower hill" because that's all that was here-no houses. The hill is solid gypsum rock, very common in this area so building on it is a challenge. The view is worth it. People who travel Sheridan Lake Road know this property, top of hill large deck and beautiful brick front, almost a landmark in Southwest Rapid City. People use the wide sidewalks in front of our house to walk to Rapid City's premier park, Canyon Lake Park (10 minutes), baseball fields, Storybook Island (5 minutes) or Baken Park for shopping (20 minute walk). This is a beautiful neighborhood. This home is on 1 acre and our neighbors also have acre+ sized lots, lots of privacy. The neighbors all take care of their property, making for quality living and quality vacation time. With a 60' deck on the front and and deck in back with another 400 sq ft, the options for outdoor viewing are impressive.
