Why they chose this property
The City of Butler lost much of its industrial base in the mid to late 1900's. The most devastating blow occurred in 1982 when Pullman-Standard closed its plant. While everyone talks of bringing downtown Butler back but action has not always occurred. I decided that I would do my part by restoring one building on Main Street. I felt that if everyone who could afford it would save one building, we would be able to bring Main Street back. It is a slow process but today the Main Street is in a much better place than even 10 years ago and progress continues to occur.
What makes this property unique
Built in 1896, this building was originally Rockenstein's Clothing store. It is one of the few remaining Mesker Buildings left in Western PA and the only one in Butler County. Mesker Buildings had ornamental facades and store fronts that were ordered from a catalog.
Later it became Krut's Florist Shop. The Krut name is still visible on the tiled entrance of the building.
Following those two main uses, the building held a variety of legal, real estate, and other businesses. Unfortunately the later day owners did not take very good care of the building and slowly deteriorated until 2016 and we began its restoration.
In 2023 we started renting the second floor apartment in the short term rental market.
