My issue with the host, Julio, began a month before our trip, when he casually informed me that he had rented the house to someone else, even though it was already paid in full. Naturally, I informed him that this was unacceptable, and I am not sure if this was the reason why he was accusatory and did not respond in a timely manner to other messages. I had to contact VRBO numerous times, as he did not send the door code when he said he would, and accused us of smoking when a bedroom smoke alarm beeped all night. He refused to inform me if it had been taken care of, as none of the upstairs guests were able to sleep, and had to wait until 10PM when we got home to find out the smoke detector no longer beeped because he had disconnected it. He texted me "it's amazing how many problems we're having with you," because I asked for towels, as there were not enough when we checked in, and because I asked him to take care of the smoke detector. The house itself was magnificent- spotless, beautifully decorated and spacious. But unfortunately my experience with the host soured my trip. If not for him, I would have given a 5 star rating.
