Lacking Hospitality
The initial take on the rental was good. While in an alley, it never felt unsafe. The unit was spacious and well equipped. Street noise and lights were minimal and not disrupting. The neighborhood is very close to lots of dining and entertainment options. Cool neighborhood. I was happy to have been there. Within the first day I noticed a few German Cockroaches. Without causing much alarm, I notified the host and asked to leave with a refund. Seemed reasonable. The response was an offer to have the unit sprayed by an exterminator. My initial request was accepted after I asked again to leave. We agreed on a refund and I waited 2 weeks with no refund before contacting the host again for an update and proof of refund. No response forced me to hunt the host down and call to ask for the refund again. Look, bugs happen. Hospitality was questionable and motives unknown.
I booked the Barbiecore pad as a sort of getting ready bridal suite. Since its spacious I thought everyone could get glammed for my wedding. It is more accommodating then a hotel because it has a kitchen and spacious enough for people to have breakfast and chat before heading to the venue. Before staying I read some of the previous reviews someone mentioned roaches but I honestly didn't see any. Another person mentioned the AC issue and unfortunately the AC unit is quite small for that apartment. The other issue is that the AC unit points at the wall so I don't think the cold air flows well throughout the apartment. Luckily when we visited it was a high of 87 or 85 degrees so it did not feel that bad for us but I brought extra fans just incase because of the review. What would help is another AC unit in the bedroom area and that would feel more comfortable especially in the warmer months. It definitely provided the vibes my mother loved it and was video recording the space. The pad provides a parking spot and I was ok with leaving my car there for 2 nights without worry. There was the Flamingo house across the way that was blasting music at night but inside the apartment I didn't hear a thing so the walls were thick it did not disturb my beauty sleep one bit. The reason I took off a few stars is because of the AC issue and there were a few mats that were either really dirty or wet and dirty.

The “Barbie House” — Misleading Listing in a Dangerous, Miserable Location. AC claim IS misleading
Avoid the “Barbie House” at all costs. The listing claims it has AC—what it actually has is a single portable unit in the hallway that does almost nothing. By 7 p.m., the house was sweltering and miserable. One of the fans was broken, missing blades, and useless. I tried to fix it for over an hour. We had no relief from the heat. When my partner finally lost her mind, i knew we hard to get out. Worse, the neighborhood is extremely unsafe. I live in Sacramento and should’ve researched better, but nothing could’ve prepared me for the chaos outside: loud music blasting from a nearby bar until 2–3 a.m., people urinating, using drugs, fighting. A woman even screamed her husband pulled a knife—right outside our window. At midnight, we packed up and checked into a hotel. I told the host why we left early, and his response was basically “tough luck.” No refund, no accountability, no professionalism.Sure, the house looks cute online, but it’s all surface. The fridge barely shuts, windows don’t open right, water pressure is awful, and the entire place feels cheap and worn down. You’re better off at a hotel where it’s safe, cool, and quiet. This listing is misleading and borderline dangerous. Don’t fall for the pink paint—this was one of the worst stays I’ve ever had

We’re sorry to hear you felt this way about your stay. That said, we do want to clarify a few important details for transparency’s sake.
You never brought up any issues with the AC, fan, or the neighborhood during your stay. In fact, your first and only message was sent after you had already checked out—when you were requesting a partial refund. At that point, we were not given any opportunity to troubleshoot or resolve the concerns you raised.
We stand by the accuracy of our listing. The home does have a portable AC unit, which is clearly shown in the photos, and additional fans are also provided. If any of these weren’t functioning as expected, we could’ve easily replaced or fixed them—if only we had been informed at the time.
We also understand that Sacramento has areas with more nightlife activity, which isn’t for everyone—but the property is in a residential zone and has hosted many guests without issue.
We do our best to provide a clean, safe, and accurately represented space, and we take all feedback seriously. That said, retroactively leaving a scathing review after being denied a refund doesn’t reflect a fair picture of what actually occurred.
We wish you the best moving forward and hope your next stay suits your needs better.
