About the host
Hosted by Sara Ackerman
Sara grew up on O'ahu and is an avid waterwoman, outdoor enthusiast, and bestselling author of novels set in the Islands. She now is happy to call Waimea home, and when she's not writing novels, you can find her in the mountains or the ocean. Her family once owned a small beach house in Puako, and her love for this coast and its waters runs deep.
In Hawaii since the late eighties, Todd brings decades of knowledge and experience and has helped create world class outdoor & ocean programs around the globe. Todd is well known along the Kohala Coast as a visionary and a consummate waterman. He is an avid paddler, swimmer, surfer, foil boarder, and canoe sailor and has crossed the Molokai Channel numerous times.
We are here for you when you need anything!
Why they chose this property
Before we bought our townhouse, we were always down here on this particular stretch of the Kohala coastline, snorkeling, stand up paddleboarding, surfing and walking along the coastal trail and through fishponds at Kalahuipua'a. We picked this special location for it's proximity to the ocean and to Puako. The whale watching here is incredible, as are the sunsets!
What makes this property unique
We chose the name the Surf House in honor of Sara's father Douglas, an avid surfer who built a lava rock and o'hia wood house in nearby Puako in the 1950s. Throughout our home here, we have special artwork and pieces of furniture that embody the beach & surf culture that he so loved. As kama'aina, we also include a Hawai'i Island Guide with all of our favorite places & things to do or see.
Also, guests will enjoy a curated library of fiction and nonfiction that includes all of Sara's novels.
