About this property

Labor Day Special Rate – Cozy Lakehouse with Firepit Nights & Autumn Views

Labor Day Weekend is available at the Fox Lane Lakehouse! Gather with family and friends for sunsets on Big Chetac, starry nights by the firepit, and cozy mornings with coffee on the deck.

Welcome to your private lake home retreat on Big Chetac Lake — where autumn sunsets glow over the water and crisp Northwoods air makes every moment feel restorative.

Nestled near the end of a quiet road with only trees and water around you, this lakefront home offers rare privacy, panoramic views, and space to gather in every season.

The property spans 1.76 acres with 82 feet of lake frontage, looking out toward a scenic island that makes sunsets unforgettable. In fall, the tree-lined yard bursts into brilliant color — the perfect backdrop for evenings around the firepit, grilling, or cozying up with a blanket on the deck overlooking the lake.

Inside, the home features over 2,800 sq ft designed for connection and ease: a large dining table for sharing meals, a breakfast bar for casual mornings, and a spacious lower-level walkout that’s ideal for game nights, lounging, or warming up by the fireplace after a day outdoors.

Whether you’re here for fishing, riding the trails, leaf-peeping, or simply slowing down, this Big Lake Chetac retreat gives you the best of Northwoods living — privacy, beauty, and the kind of moments that last long after you leave.

The house was bigger than we expected and the back yard was ample! We spent a lot of time out on the water, the dock and around the firepit. Wood was provided which we didn't expect, so we brought our own. The grill was great...propane was included, the kitchen was well-stocked with nearly everything you'd need, including small appliances. We appreciated the 2 kayaks and paddles that were available. We had read the reviews in advance and brought our own portable A/C units and they kept the house around 74, which was good since we had nearly 90 outdoor temps! The sunsets were amazing and lots of wildlife to see!

Good, but could be great

My husband and I, along with our adult kids recently spent 3 nights here over the 4th of July holiday. Overall, the property was very nice but it was lacking in a couple significant areas. The positive: the main floor has lots of seating with lovely furnishings, was neat & clean, had a large bathroom & a well-stocked kitchen. The views of the lake were very pretty, extra camp chairs were provided, the lake was lovely & nice-sized, and the property was located close to various bars, restaurants, etc. The cons: the biggest issue we had was that when we booked, we failed to take note that this home does not have air conditioning. This proved to be a big problem as it was humid with temperatures in the upper 80’s-low 90’s. The few ceiling fans & one oscillating fan the home had were insufficient to make it comfortable. We ended up going into town and buying an additional fan to use but it really didn’t help much. Sleeping was tough. In addition, the basement is mostly unfinished and that is where the 3rd bedroom is located. The basement and the bedroom felt damp and smelled musty due to the humidity. The daughter that stayed down there noted that all her clothes felt damp when unpacking at home upon her return. A couple more minor tweaks that would be helpful would be removing the kitchen carpet and replacing it with an easier to clean, more “kitchen-friendly” option and also providing grill tools. Overall it was a very nice property but needs some important upgrades.

What a great, relaxing, place! We loved our morning coffee on the deck while overlooking the lake. Then watching the sunset by the bonfire pit. The stars were amazing! We sat out on blankets watching the dark sky. We enjoyed exploring the 2 lakes, and watching the wildlife.

Hi, I’m Jess — a longtime property manager turned passionate Northwoods host. After years of overseeing everything from luxury villas to cozy resorts, I launched Drift North to bring that same level of care to vacation rentals I truly believe in. I take pride in creating a thoughtful, high-quality experience for guests and am always just a call or message away. My goal is simple: to help you relax, explore, and make lasting memories on the lake.

Why they chose this property

Birchwood has always held a special place in my heart. It’s the kind of town where loons greet you in the morning, trails call your name by afternoon, and sunsets over the lake feel like something out of a storybook. With quick access to Hayward and Rice Lake, plus iconic trails like the Tuscobia. It’s a hidden gem where outdoor fun and small-town charm come together beautifully.

What makes this property unique

This retreat blends modern comfort with classic Northwoods charm. With over 2,800 square feet of well-designed space, it’s perfect for gathering — whether around the large dining table, by the lakeside firepit, or out on the water. Guests love the thoughtful details, from the brand-new appliances and cozy furnishings to the private dock and nearby UTV trails. It’s a place that invites connection, with nature and with each other.
