About this property

Damariscotta Lakefront 3BR+

This tastefully updated family cottage with a private dock on Damariscotta Lake was built for year round enjoyment and guests. Nestled in a cove with resident beaver, spring peepers, late summer bullfrogs, and frequent visits by bald eagles, osprey, owls, loons, this is a phenomenal retreat for nature lovers and anglers.

The two level floor-plan comfortably accommodates two families with their children (or 3 couples) and includes some less private (but totally sweet!) spots for the few extra friends who make everyone's time more special just by showing up.

The Queen Bath Suite is on the top floor (ground level access/treehouse feel lake side) has a queen bed with sunrise view over the lake. The peachtree gardenview en-suite bathroom has two sinks and a tub/shower.

Below is the King Lounge Suite, with a private lakeview lounge area and a king bed, also with a sunrise view over the lake.

The back corner of the daylight basement is the Bunk Den, set up for a gang of good kids to enjoy. The bunk bed is a twin on top of a full, with a trundle twin to pull out below. Plenty of room for up to 4 kids.

In season (all summer and early shoulder seasons of Spring and Fall depending on how intrepid you are!), the futon couch on the screened-in porch can sleep up to two more. The loons, frogs and owls are especially fun to listen to from out there! Couches and sleeping pads will accommodate the last minute neighbor's kid or other plus one -- up to two more, bringing the total to 12 overnight guests for part of the year and 10 overnight guests when its too cold to use the porch.

The well appointed kitchen with large table is perfect for gathering everyone for meals. The open plan allows easy flow to seating areas throughout the two floors, screened in porch and outdoors. The lakeview patio has the grill and the dock has seating and a fleet of paddle powered boats for your use. (Ask about docking your private boat.)

The three bathrooms make sure everyone can take care of business when they need to. One shower and a shower/tub are hardly necessary with all the lake time, but sometimes soap is just the thing. If you get chilled, try a good sweat in the infrared, cedar sauna.

If you need some civilization, the cottage is only 20 minutes to Waldoboro or Damariscotta, each with grocery stores, theaters and restaurants. Camden/Rockport/Rockland with their thriving festivals, historic schooners and unique attractions are ~40 minutes away. Several sandy ocean beaches are within ~1 hour, or Damariscotta Lake State Park's beach is just around the bend. There is a restaurant and general store 5 minutes from the cottage where you can get essentials like GREAT pizza, milk, beer and wine. For those with a strong paddle or their own private boat , the store/restaurant is also accessible by a dock.

This delightful lakefront home is offered for the first time for you and your loved ones to come make memories. We think you'll be back for more!

"Our stay at Tobey's home was beautiful. The home is warm and inviting. Tobey is very quick to respond to questions. We fished right from the dock and kayak catching large mouth bass. The bald eagle did his evening fly by as well. Being from 103 feels like temp of Florida to this summer paradise was a treat. Will be back with the whole family in the future. So much space!" Lisa, July 2025

"The place was in a great location on the lake. We stayed here for a week with 2 families and the house was great for that with the living space in the basement and the main floor!" Elmer, July 2025

Blue Heron Stay

The house has good size rooms. The house is hot on hot days - definitely needs more ceiling fans or some AC units and/or box fans for air circulation. Screened in porch is very nice. Not our definition of lake front (would call it lake house) and the water at dock very shallow so not boat friendly other than kayaks/canoes. Lots of lily pads and water weeds. Quiet cove except when nearby camp going on but happy noises with that but louder.

Thanks for staying Barbara and for your patience with the booking challenges in the beginning. Sorry the house wasn't what you expected. Would have been nice to hear from you that you needed more AC, I would have been happy to set up the unit I left for you and bring the other one out of storage in the garage. Can't fix what I don't know about. As far as proximity to the lake...the house was built as close to the lake as allowed with current shorefront zoning. So, it is technically lakefront, unless you happen to rent/own a house that was grandfathered into current rules that protect water quality. We've been using boats there and swimming for 2 decades without issue. Lily pads and water weeds are part of the natural ecosystem (tons of fish!) and take an extra few minutes on the way in and out.

Great Lake House

This house was perfect for our family trip. We had another family with small children as well and they all had a great time. When we weren’t out at the dock or in the water there were lots of great kids books and games for them to play with and explore. The only “down” side was that while there is an AC cooling unit that you can move around the house itself isn’t. It got somewhat warm during the day but the cool nights helped a lot. We also loved being able to grill at night so that we didn’t have to heat up the house before bed. Make sure to take fishing poles and bait. The fish were very active and the kids had fun learning how to fish. None were big enough to keep but it was fun. The water was crystal clear too. It was amazing!

So glad your two families enjoyed yourselves so much. Apologies for the excessive heat. We have purchased additional fans to move the air during the day. Many guests have found that the downstairs is naturally cooler and the screened porch too, especially when the wind is coming off the lake each afternoon. I have removed AC from the listing as an amenity, for this year and will work on insulation and AC options to keep the house cooler for next summer. Thanks for the feedback!
