I can’t say enough wonderful things about not only this absolutely amazing property but also the host Melodie! We traveled over 5 hours here for my husband’s graduation. Melodie was very flexible with our check in time as she was always available for communication when needed! As for the house it was absolutely stunning! Very clean as described. Plenty of room for our family that traveled with us. The dock was very well maintained and the kids loved jumping in the water and kayaking! This was a wonderful home with breathtaking views! Very quiet neighborhood and very easy to get to!

We had an amazing stay at this lakehouse. The location was fantastic—right on the water with beautiful views. The house was very clean, well-maintained, and had great amenities. It truly had everything we needed for a comfortable and fun trip.We spent our days out on the dock and in the lake, and our evenings playing pool and relaxing. The only minor downside was that the basement was a bit cold, but the owner gave us a heads-up ahead of time so we were prepared.Overall, a perfect spot for a lake vacation. We’d definitely come back!

beautiful, quiet, peaceful. morning coffee on the deck overlooking the quiet cove off the lake watching deer and humming birds. days spent on the dock, sunning, reading, swimming and kayaking. great dock for a boat or getting on a kayak. nice concrete platform in the shallows for little ones to stand in the water. evenings on the deck watching changing light of the setting sun on the (no houses) forested smith mountain. definitely on my "come-back" list.

Annual Lake Trip Getaway!

What an incredible stay we had at this extremely cozy spot on the lake. The house was extremely spacious and very comfortable. This house has so much personality, it was like stepping into a time capsule. So many things in the house brought my wife and I back down memory lane when we would go and visit our families. We loved the huge family room, and the bedroom for us upstairs was great and separate from all of the kids. We brought our boat and was so thrilled the launch was right there in the neighborhood. The ramp was clean and the dock was very well done. We kept it tied up at the house on the dock. the rope swing and upper level jump off was a blast. The kids at first were asking.. Are you sure we can jump off this thing? And by the end of the trip, they all were flying off of it. We loved using the kayaks and paddleboards, which filled the time when meals had to be made, so it kept the kiddos out of the house.By then end of it, on the drive back, you know it was a good trip, when all you see is sun burned faces asleep in the back seat! Thank you so much for having this home available - We are already looking forward to next year!

About the host

Hosted by Melodie Vensko

Host profile image
We’re a husband‑and‑wife hosting team who feel incredibly grateful to share this special lakehouse with guests. This home was built by my father‑in‑law, a U.S. Air Force veteran, and his wife, two people who poured their hearts into creating a place where family could gather, relax, and make memories. As their daughter‑in‑law, it means the world to me to help preserve the comfort and meaning this home has held for more than three decades.

We live locally here at Smith Mountain Lake, so we’re close by if you need anything during your stay. More importantly, we care deeply about this home and the experience it offers. Every guest who walks through the door becomes part of its story, and we take pride in keeping it welcoming, peaceful, and full of the same warmth our family has always felt here.

Our hope is that you feel the love in every room, enjoy the beauty of the lake the way our family has, and leave with memories that stay with you long after your visit.

What makes this property unique

Gram & Grandfather’s Lakehouse isn’t just a place to stay, it’s a place that brings people together. The open floorplan creates a natural flow that keeps everyone connected, whether you’re cooking in the kitchen, relaxing in the living room, or taking in the lake views from the screened‑in porch. It’s the kind of layout that invites conversation, laughter, and the simple joy of being together.
What truly sets this home apart is its unmistakable sense of coziness. There’s a warmth here that feels like visiting family during your childhood, the kind of comfort that instantly puts you at ease. Every room carries a touch of nostalgia, a reminder of summers spent with loved ones, unhurried mornings, and evenings filled with stories.

This home has a way of taking you back. Back to simpler times. Back to moments that mattered. Back to the feeling of being welcomed, cared for, and completely at home.

That’s the magic of Gram & Grandfather’s Lakehouse......and it’s what makes every stay here unforgettable.
