Welcome to Camp Stonebass! Wappapello Lake's Premier vacation rental. Owned and operated by the Penfield family and is part of the Wappapello "Camp" properties. It is the perfect property for a romantic getaway or a family of 12 to unwind.
Nestled in the foothills of Mark Twain National Forest this property boasts 5 acres of privacy, abundance of walking trails, exploration of the woods, enjoying the 8400 acre Wappapello lake or just chilling in the hot tub in the middle of the forest. Or if side by sides are your thing, UTV friendly Wayne County has some of the best county roads and forest roads for exploration and scenic beauty.
The house reminds me of something John Dutton and Johnny Morris would dream up if they built a lake house together in Wappapello. As soon as you walk across the threshold it just has a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere about it. It's like the forest approves of its presence and welcomes you into the fold.
The upper floor boasts a huge master bedroom with exposed beams, attached seperate sunroom, private deck, and all of the amenities you would expect from a property of this caliber. Across the hall is a bunk house, the perfect room for all of the cousins to play games and swap stories or for the aunts and uncles to escape the kids, lol. The upstairs living room has vaulted ceilings with local species t&g wood. The area can also be used as a private spot with the best money can buy pull out sofa. A bathroom with a massive tile walk in shower is also available for the upstairs guests.
Downstairs you will find a super comfortable large gathering area with more t&g ceiling, real cypress tree columns, beautiful bar, monster TV, and a FULLY stocked kitchen with a sink I promise you will want to take home. This room can also be used as a private area with another one of those best money can buy pull out sofas. Not to mention another full bathroom with a soaking tub and full laundry facilities.
Now to the outside!... When you walk out that back door. You are going to say... they were not kidding about being in the middle of a forest!! It is beautiful! There is a deck with a dining area that is like a floating shelf into the woods, firepit area with adirondack chairs, gas and charcoal grills not to mention a hot tub that couldn't be in a more private picturesque location! (Yes 220v! Covered roof and edison lights)
Our family absolutely loves sharing our homes with our beloved guests and strives to maintain our 5 star reviews and respected guest favorite, superhost, and premier host status. We welcome you to join us in the forest and allow us to help you make precious memories.

Loved the house! It was exactly as described. Had a great family getaway in such a peaceful and serene setting. Loved the seclusion! Would definitely stay here again!
Way out in the country, quiet and private, but no lake

Thanks for staying with us, Janice! We're glad you enjoyed the quiet and private setting — that’s exactly what so many of our guests love about the place. Just to clarify for future visitors, the property is located right by Lake Wappapello, and the lake is visible and easily accessible within a minute or two. We’re always happy to share directions or local access points if needed.
We really enjoyed our stay at Camp Stonebass - Lake House. It looked like it had been TOTALLY remodeled,as everything looked new and was VERY tastefully done. We thought it looked great in the photos, but it looked even better in real. It was just the two of us there to celebrate our birthdays together, and we loved it. We did not have to call the hosts for any concerns, which is the way it should be.
