This studio apartment is clean and has everything we needed for a week’s stay. The place is near spectacular beaches and the balcony has a fine view of the ocean. Paul is a great host and we’ll be back!
Once again totally enjoyed a very relaxing stay here!! Paul is an amazing host!! Everything is easy to get to from this location. Beaches are wonderful and the pool is perfect if you don’t want to drive. Thanks again Paul and Gwen I will be back!!!!
Second time staying here because I love it!! Great location to get anywhere on the island especially the beaches. Paul and Gwen are top notch!! Watching the horses across the street and iguanas in the back yard is so fun!! Renting a car from them is easy and affordable. I highly recommend this place. Will be back!!!
This place was perfect for my wife and I for a 2 week respite from the Minnesota winter. Paul was great! He picked us up at ferry and dropped us at airport. He rented us an old car 1/2 what rentals charge. Not a Hilton but very adequate. Kitchenette and poolside grill were perfect for two. We were able to eat in many meals rather than always deal with restaurants. Two restaurants stood out though: Rising Roost and QUENEPO! Had the best soup of my life at QUENEPO! SunBay beach great shade huge beach. Good snorkeling at mosquito pier. Biobay tour pricey but one of a kind.
Room comfortable and clean. All necessities available. Air conditioner works well (better if you leave ceiling fan off). Back porch pleasant with nice breeze and ocean view. Pool area very nice and clean. Well kept. Hosts easy to communicate with. Thank you!!
This is the 2nd time we have stayed in this rental and we will be back again! Paul and Gwen are wonderful hosts. We love the place, the location, the island vehicles, the pool!
The room was cute, clean, and it was quiet. We were able to cook meals and the pool was nice. We also rented a vehicle for a great rate. I do suggest that you follow the plan for vehicle rental. 🥴 There are roads that are not safe to drive on. Fantastic hosts. I would definitely rent again.
This property is beautiful!! We stayed for 3 nights and wished we could have stayed longer! We also enjoyed the beach decorations in the room and the terrace. The pool is also well maintained and always looks so inviting. The pool was originally the reason I booked the property, but this place offered so much more! Paul is a great host and goes out of his way to make sure we do not have any issues. 100% recommended! We will stay here again when we go back to Vieques!
Great little hideaway hosts very accommodating
It was a little noisy as very close to busy road
Pool was great and yard set up very nice.
Lawn chairs and beach towels provided a nice touch
Paul and Gwen’s place was clean and lovely, and a central location between both towns. Paul was extremely communicative and provided helpful suggestions about the island when I asked. Two things I wished I knew before I booked: I thought you’d be able to access the beaches within 1/4 mile and we could just walk, but you definitely need a vehicle. The listing does say it’s 1/4 mile to the entrance to the reserve (which is accurate), so just be aware if you’re hoping you can walk to most places. I would say this is the case for the island regardless of where you stay, though, and Paul let us rent his vehicle, which was perfect for the roads and very convenient. Second, the home is just off the main road that seems to go through the whole island, including both towns. This made it easy to get to both towns (with a vehicle), but also could be a little noisy at night. Because this is a main road, I think anyone staying in the island would likely hear the cars - it’s not specific to Paul and Gwen’s place - so I’d just advise to bring ear plugs for anyone visiting Vieques if you’re a sensitive sleeper (I slept fine but my husband had some trouble).
Especially for this the cost and convenience, this is a great place to stay on the island and Paul was a gracious host (even dropped us off at the airport for free!). I would definitely recommend Jak’s too for the bio bay tour, and of course Caracas and the other beaches - it’s like you’re in the Corona commercials :) Enjoy your stay!
Owners are extremely accommodating whenever possible! Unit was very clean, facilities are great and the location is just perfect! We will definitely come back, don’t hesitate to book this listing!
We stayed at the end of May 2021. The owners picked us up from the airport. There are two studios above the property owners home. The studios offer a front porch to watch the sunrise and a kitchenette, with A/C. The property is situated nicely between Isabel and Esperanza, making it an easy drive to either town. The owners even allowed us to use one of their vehicles (know that there are limited rental vehicles on the island) and made us breakfast by the pool one morning. We had a great time and a great experience.
Before we even arrived to the island Paul was communicating with us and answering all of our questions. He picked us up directly from the ferry and let us rent one of his vehicles which was so convenient, I highly recommend this over making another stop to rent one from an agency. Solimar is located a 1/4 mile from the entrance to Caracas and La Chiva Beaches and is almost exactly halfway between Isabel II and Esperanza, we spent our time at both so this location was great for us. Our stay was short so we didn’t get to spend as much time on Paul’s property as we would have liked, the pictures don’t do it justice! There’s a pool, hammock, lounge chairs, outdoor eating area that we would like to take advantage of next time we’re on Vieques. Thanks Paul and Gwen for everything!
The place is a little ways out of the big towns which was good! The apartment was clean and well set up. Owners were incredibly accommodating and friendly! Thank you!
Paul was extremely helpful from the start. We booked a last minute stay on Vieques and he was able to pick us up when we got to the island. The ferry system to get over is too hard so I would suggest flying over and taking the ferry back. He was very friendly and helpful with suggestions on things to do. We rented a car from him which was very convenient. He has delicious mango trees in the backyard and a comfy hammock. The property is fenced in. He has two cute dogs and the horses frequent his backyard area where there is disc golf to play at your leisure. We did the horseback riding tour on the beach with Colon horses and the bio bay kayak tour with Jax. Overall a great place to stay and great trip! Thank you Paul!

About the host
Hosted by Paul & Gwen Manzanares
I've spent my entire career in the hospitality/food & beverage industry from busting suds at a local diner when I was 12 years old to owning my own restaurants to director of food & beverage for four casinos and now SoliMar.
I pride myself on the "golden rule" of treating how you want to be treated. My goal when I set out on this adventure over 14 years ago was to provide a nice, clean, comfortable place for the budgeted and non-budgeted traveler alike. No, we're not a fancy place but we have clean studios and provide everything we think you'll need for your stay.
I look forward to hosting you and hopefully exceeding your expectations.
Safe Travels, Paul
