About the host

Host profile image
After growing up in Detroit, Michigan, I travel around the world doing lots of hitchhiking, hiking, and camping. I settled in Portland, Oregon. My kids and I run this guesthouse, and we love it. We have been running this guest house for over 10 years. We love going to the mountains, the coast, hiking, and biking around different parts of Portland. We love learning, Portland history, and going to festivals in town.

Why they chose this property

We live in an historic neighborhood, with some houses built in the 1800s on the block, and in the neighborhood. We can walk to coffee, shops, cafés, restaurants, farmers markets, and shops in a few minutes on NE Dekum, slightly further, on northeast Killingsworth… And less than a mile away from 20 blocks of family owned businesses on Northeast Alberta. We are right in between Woodland Park and Alberta Park on a safe quiet street. We are walking distance from the University of Oregon concordia campus. We host many international guests, guest, visiting Oregon for the first time from other states, and lots of grandparents visiting their children and grandchildren.

What makes this property unique

This is a quiet space where you can sit in the front porch and pick figs or raspberries from your seat. There are more people walking and biking on our street than driving. You have a big shade tree out front, and from our property, we have seen owls, Eagle, osprey, raccoons, possum, and coyotes. But we have also walked the 3.5 miles to downtown.
