Muir sits on a hillside in the trees — mirrored walls that disappear into the forest by day and open completely to the woods by night. It's one of two glass homes at Notestone Reserve, our family-owned 14-acre property in Laurelville, built around a single idea: get you as close to the woods as possible without asking you to give up a comfortable bed.
Inside, a queen bed sits directly in front of floor-to-ceiling glass, with nothing but forest in view. Named for John Muir — the man who looked at wilderness and saw something worth protecting — it's a room that earns the reference.
🌲 Outside • Personal hot tub nestled against a natural rock (striped towels provided) • Propane grill with tools • Fire pit for s’mores, stargazing, and evening conversations (firewood on site) • Cozy seating for two, with blankets for the cooler nights • Mirrored exterior that reflects the forest during the day — you see out, no one sees in
🏠 Inside • Queen bed facing floor-to-ceiling glass — wake up to unobstructed forest views • Small kitchen: apartment-size fridge, portable stovetop, and air fryer • Stocked with the basics to get you started — salt, pepper, olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, foil, and cooking spray. • Coffee bar: coffee maker, coffee, and tea • Towels for every occasion (bath, hand, face, makeup, hot tub) • Smart TV and Bluetooth speaker
🧴 What's Here When You Arrive Every bathroom comes stocked with the good stuff — shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, and lotion. One less thing to remember when you're packing for the weekend.
We provide a starter kit of the essentials — 2 rolls of toilet paper, a roll of paper towels, a kitchen sponge, and trash liners. We recommend bringing a little extra just in case.
🏡 The Shared Game Room A short walk across the property, and open to every Notestone guest: • 85" Smart TV • Pool table • Foosball • Basketball arcade • Classic arcade machines and a racing game • Legos, card and board games, indoor cornhole • Plus an outdoor playground for the kids (big and small)
🪟 About the Glass During the day the mirrored exterior keeps things completely private — you can see out, no one can see in. At night that reverses. The bathroom windows are frosted, so no worries there — but we do ask that you use the curtains near the bed once it gets dark. Other guests are on the property, and it's just good neighboring.
🗺️ What's Nearby Notestone sits in the heart of the Hocking Hills, close enough to hit two or three trails in a day and still be back in time for the fire pit.
Rock House — 7 minutes Conkle's Hollow — 15 minutes Old Man's Cave — 20 minutes Ash Cave — 26 minutes
Cedar Falls, Cantwell Cliffs, and the rest of the state park system are all within a short drive as well.
📶 About the WiFi We offer Starlink satellite internet. In general it holds up well — most guests have no trouble streaming movies or music without issue. That said, satellite internet is a different animal than what you're used to at home. Video calls and long phone calls can cut out from time to time, especially on cloudy days when the router is working harder to find its signal. We'd rather tell you upfront than have you find out mid-Zoom. If you're planning to work remotely during your stay, it can work — just plan for the occasional hiccup.
🌿 A Note on the Setting We're in a wooded area, and while we stay on top of regular pest control, the occasional ladybug or curious spider showing up is just nature doing its thing.
📋 A Few Things to Note We're a small, family-owned operation, and keeping Notestone calm and well-kept is a group effort. A few things we ask: • No parties or events, including bachelor/bachelorette groups. And no glitter — it never, ever goes away. • Only registered guests on the property • No smoking, vaping, fireworks, ATVs, hunting, or weapons • No commercial photography or videography without written approval • Hot tub: use the striped towels provided and keep the cover on between soaks • Septic-safe: flush toilet paper only; no garbage disposal at the sink • Under normal conditions, our driveways are accessible in just about any vehicle. Muir does have a steeper approach, and for that we strongly recommend four wheel drive or all wheel drive during winter months when ice and snow are a factor. • You'll find firewood in the outdoor box by the patio or by the shipping container. Please close the lid after use to keep the wood dry for the next guests.

Absolutely amazing couldn’t ask for more make sure you get in the hot tub even if it’s cold outside I promise you that. Might want to bring a portable stove if you wanna cook multiple sides but not needed just an extra.

Hi, I'm Stacey — one of the founders of Notestone Reserve, and the person who's been hands-on in shaping every space on the property.
Restoration is something I think about a lot. The idea that something with potential can become something worth keeping — that broken pieces, arranged with care, can turn into something magnificent. Stained glass works that way. So does Notestone.
This property started as a vision and a lot of hard work. What it is now — ten units across 14 acres in the heart of Hocking Hills, each one named for a writer who paid attention to the world around them — is the result of believing that where you rest matters.
Every detail reflects what I personally look for when I travel: comfort without pretense, nature without roughing it. The kind of place where memories get made without trying — and you leave with a story worth telling.
I'm proud of what we've built. And I'd love to have you here.
Welcome to Notestone Reserve.
What makes this property unique
Muir is a mirrored glass home that disappears into the trees by day and opens completely to the forest by night. A queen bed facing floor-to-ceiling glass, a personal hot tub nestled against a natural rock, and a fire pit that draws you out once the sun goes down. There's nothing else quite like it in Hocking Hills.
As a Notestone Reserve guest you'll also have access to our shared community game room — pool table, basketball arcade, classic arcade machines, and a TV lounge. Most nights it's all yours. It's the kind of bonus that turns a rainy afternoon into the highlight of the trip.
Notestone Reserve sits in Laurelville, right in the heart of Hocking Hills. The trails are a short drive away — Rock House, Conkle's Hollow, Old Man's Cave — but with views like these, the hardest part is convincing yourself to leave.
