About this property
A Distant Paradise, 1-bedroom cabin in Fairplay
Bristlecone Cabin sits at the edge of Pike National Forest nestled in a secluded valley protected by towering mountains. Solar powered and completely off grid, these forty acres offer a complete wilderness experience. With all of the comforts and added charm, this one-of-a-kind getaway is perfect for romantic occasions, outdoor adventures, and quiet reflections.
Please read all property descriptions and rules before booking.
Need to unplug and disconnect? This is the place for you! Accessing the cabin requires a ten mile drive over a forest dirt road. It's rocky and an all-wheel or four-wheel drive is necessary. Finding Bristlecone cabin, means arriving before dark and following the detailed directions precisely.
The main floor bedroom features, a new queen bed, raised metal ceiling, an original miner's shed repurposed in a rustic wall, and closet space.
Four folding wood chairs make for a cozy kitchen table and conserve space. The cast iron wood burning stove offers warmth and charm on the cooler nights, along with a propane heater. A 100-year-old restored Wedgewood gas stove is great for every kind of cooking. On the deck sits the gas grill for your BBQ pleasure.
This rustic gem is solar powered with DC lighting. There's no cleaning fee because we use campsite rules: leave it better than you found it. There's no laundry service in these parts, place sleeping bags on beds, or bring your own queen sheets.
Bristlecone offers guests an authentic, off-grid, wilderness adventure.
Many come to hike Mt. Sherman with an elevation of 14,035 ft. We are a 10 minute drive to the base of the trail. Because there are private lands between our cabin and the trailhead, you will need to make the drive instead of walking. All outdoor fires are prohibited by county ordinance. We provide a lovely propane fireplace as an alternative. Our land connects with the National Forest. Wildlife preservation is our priority, please keep a far distance from moose, elk, mountain lion, beaver, big horn sheep, bobcat, coyote, bear, and badgers.
Located at the end of a private road on 40 acres this is a unique opportunity for complete seclusion. Special spaces are created for rest and contemplation. Bristlecone is a great setting for anniversaries, marriage proposals, important life-changing decisions, solitary introspection, or for simply spending quality time with the person you love, (which might just be yourself!)
Having spent the last thirty years in this valley, we are diligent stewards of this sacred spot. All renters are vetted to ensure this is a right fit and all rules are understood and will be followed. Hunting, shooting, and any sort of off-road vehicles are prohibited (see rules). Since its inception, Bristlecone has served as a space for reprieve from life's hustle and bustle and the rare opportunity to connect with nature.
A property boundary map is provided in the guest book along with directions to National Forest land and public trails. Keep in mind the rugged dirt road, the importance of water conservation, and cleaning requirements. Our goal is to ensure a fabulous stay and we want to make sure Bristlecone cabin is the right fit for everyone.
At 11,500 feet, we have a short season from June - September. In a few cases, guests have experienced altitude sickness. Preparations for this kind of stay is essential.
Please note there is a $100 pet fee per pet and a one vehicle limit.
