About this property
Charming 2 BR, minutes from Audra State Park & nestled on Buckhannon River.
Escape to this charming 2-bedroom, 1-bath riverfront retreat—perfect for a relaxing getaway or an outdoor adventure. Both bedrooms feature cozy queen beds, and the living room’s pull-out sofa allows the home to comfortably sleep up to 6 guests.
With 1,200 sq. ft. of space, you’ll enjoy a spacious living room, a fully equipped kitchen, and a beautiful sunroom that doubles as the dining area. Each bedroom and the living room are equipped with smart TVs for streaming, and the home is stocked with thoughtful amenities—Wi-Fi, bed linens, towels, cooking essentials, dishes, board and yard games, toys, books, a BBQ grill, plus kayaks, floats, and life jackets for enjoying the river.
A quiet, single-lane country road (with more ATVs and golf carts than cars) runs between the home and its 100 yards of private river frontage—just travel with caution and be prepared to pull over if you meet another vehicle. Across the road, you’ll find a 12’ x 16’ riverside deck with a patio table and chairs, perfect for morning coffee or evening sunsets. Steps from the deck lead down to an 8’ x 8’ dock for fishing, launching kayaks, or dipping your toes in the water. Nearby, a fire pit with Adirondack chairs invites you to gather under the stars. A large backyard offers even more space to relax and play.
Across the river, you might spot the occasional passing train—only a couple times a day—but its distant whistle adds a touch of rustic charm. Wildlife is part of the experience here: deer, ducks, geese, and squirrels are daily visitors, and on a rare occasion, you might see turtles, beavers, mink, or even a black bear.
You’ll be just under 6 miles from Audra State Park, about 9 miles from Philippi, and 12 miles from Buckhannon. This is rural West Virginia at its best—peaceful, scenic, and full of fresh air. Bring your sense of adventure… and a little bug spray.

About the host
Hosted by Heather Anderson

I’m from Buckhannon, WV where I live with my significant other, Jason, and our two fur-babies, Ember and Potter. This is our first short term rental hosting experience. We love meeting people and strive to be super hosts!
Why they chose this property
We love the location of The River House—close enough for a quick overnight escape, yet far enough to feel a world away from our everyday routine. From the sunroom, we can watch the river flow by, take leisurely kayak trips downstream, enjoy a friendly game of bocce ball, or try our luck fishing for “the big one.”
The wildlife here is incredible. In just a few short months, we’ve spotted mink, beaver, and even a black bear across the river—along with the daily visits from deer, ducks, geese, and squirrels.
Our favorite addition is the custom-built deck and dock. Evenings often mean dinner on the deck, followed by a cozy campfire in the fire pit. The neighborhood is wonderfully peaceful, with as many golf carts and ATVs passing by as actual cars. Across the river, the railroad tracks add their own charm—the soft whistle of a passing train a couple of times a day is like a soundtrack to this little slice of paradise.
