CHARMING CHARACTER COTTAGE WITH PANORAMIC VIEWS AND BEACH ACCESS 2 MIN WALK
This uniquely positioned House comprises of a split level ground floor which incorporates a fitted kitchen with breakfast bar. The well presented living room is reached from an internal hallway, off which is the downstairs bathroom which has an electric shower over a generous sized bath. The sun room/Dining room is located via French doors from the living room, all having comfortable seating for relaxing. Upstairs are 2 bedrooms, 1 double and 1 twin, a small airing cupboard housing the boiler is also on this floor. A new fitted kitchen is off the new entrance hall to the left and to the right is access to a new downstairs double bed room with ensuite. All the rooms in this delightful cottage have magnificent sea views and is a fantastic location for either a beach holiday and/or base for exploring the fabulous Pembrokeshire coastline and all its many attractions. Pendine boasts a wonderful 7 mile beach and is world famous for land speed record attempts, a museum in the village is dedicated to its famous history. endine Sands on the coast of southern Carmarthenshire is a seven mile stretch of rock-hard beach that runs from Gilman Point in the west to Laugharne Sands in the east. It is an incredibly beautiful stretch of coast but Pendine is famous for more than just its location.
Over the years the sands have seen TT races, world land speed record attempts and tragic death, when JG Parry-Thomas died trying to regain the speed record in 1927. But as well as racing cars and bikes the sands were also a perfect venue for aircraft – obviously not the modern day jet aeroplanes but the rather flimsy canvas and wood biplanes of the 1920s and 30s.
Following the success of the area as a base for land speed records, in July 1933 the famous flyers Jim Mollison and Amy Johnson came to Pendine Sands to begin their own attempt on a new world record. Both flyers were well used to setting "firsts" in an era when flying was still in its infancy and long-distance pilots had a glamour akin to that of movie stars.
In 1931 Jim Mollison had set the record for a flight from Australia to England, then followed it up with another record, England to South Africa in 4 days 17 hours. Amy Johnson, the most famous British woman pilot of the age, met and married Mollison in July 1932. She then set off to break her husband's South African record – a task she happily achieved.
Dubbed the Flying Sweethearts, the couple's record breaking flights continued. By the summer of 1933 they were planning a round the world flight, the first stage of which was to cross the Atlantic to New York. The attempt was due to end in Baghdad but the starting place was to be Pendine Sands in south Wales.
Their aircraft was a de Haviland Dragon Rapide, named Seafarer. It had been modified for the trip and fitted with extra fuel tanks for the long haul across the Atlantic Ocean. In the event, even these extra tanks were not enough.
For three weeks people flocked to Pendine, hoping to see the pair set off and it was reported that there was a carnival atmosphere in Pendine. The aircraft was on show each day and the pilots, who were staying at the Beach Hotel in the village, were happy to talk to their fans.
Unfortunately, while the weather in Carmarthenshire was fine, out in the Atlantic there were severe storms and the attempt had to be delayed.
Seafarer was taken to Cardiff for a short while. There she again went on display, and members of the public flocked to see the machine. Then conditions out in the Atlantic improved and the plane, along with Johnsone and Mollison, quickly returned to Pendine.
At around noon on 22 July 1933, Seafarer took off. Hundreds of people watched and waved from the beach as she turned slowly to the west and was lost to view.
The trip was difficult and, unfortunately, Seafarer ran out of petrol before she could reach New York. She did arrive over the American mainland, however - the intrepid pilots had to crash land at Bridgeport in Connecticut. The crash was bad and both Johnsone and Mollison were injured.
The attempt at flying around the world had failed but the Atlantic had been crossed. Johnsone and Mollison became the first married couple to cross the ocean.
Following their flight, the two pilots were entertained to lunch by President Roosevelt. Amelia Earhart, who in 1928 had become the first woman to fly across the Atlantic, was also present. There is another Welsh connection as Earhart and her male companions – they flew the plane, she was merely an observer – landed at Burry Port outside Llanelli.
Sadly, the crashed remains of Seafarer were left unprotected and she was literally broken into pieces by the crowds who came hunting for souvenirs. Whether she could have been repaired and re-flown will never be known.
The marriage of Amy Johnson and Jim Mollison did not survive much longer either. They were both egotists and both chasing the same records. Strains turned into cracks and the two were divorced in 1938.
Amy flew as a delivery pilot during the Second World War and was killed somewhere over the Thames Estuary while Jim turned more and more to alcohol. He lost his pilot's licence and died in October 1959.
Nowadays it seems incredible that aircraft capable of Trans-Atlantic flight could land and take off from Pendine Sands. But 80 years ago this month that is exactly what happened when Amy Johnson and Jim Mollison took to the air to set another new record.
The township of Laugharne famous for its connection to Dylan Thomas and his Boathouse is only 4 miles away.

We had a really good week at this house, the location overlooking the beach is amazing and the house itself is very comfortable and roomy for our family.
Absolutely the most beautiful view, couldn’t wait to wake up early to enjoy the view.Access to the beach through the garden ( a steep garden) so not really suitable for very young children .
Fabulous property, fabulous location, fabulous holiday! We found everything we needed in the house which made for a very relaxing week. Incredible views and gorgeous beach right on the doorstep. We all loved it
Really enjoyed our week at Gorse Hill. The house exceeded our expectations, it’s spacious, well equipped and furnished to a high standard. Comfy beds, good shower and excellent WiFi connection. The views from almost all windows, and especially the dining/sun room are spectacular. A great centre to explore the Pembrokeshire/Carmarthenshire area.
We were not disappointed, beautiful elevated position, to watch the tide come and go, was amazing, the house was comfortable and had great views in most rooms. Quite a steep incline from the beach followed by 14 or so steps but nothing two over 70 year olds could not deal with. Although very few eating out places the food in the local pub was great. We would highly recommended Gorse Hill !
The view is amazing. Right on the beach with a view of the promenade. We were able to sit undisturbed on the "terrace" and watch the crowds on the beach. At night we could hear the waves. The house is very simple - but we weren't expecting luxury. We did think the kitchen was great though - everything was there and modern and functional with a dishwasher and washing machine. A very nice holiday!
Wow, what an amazing place! We have admired this house for several years when visiting Pendine and didn’t realise you could rent it! We stayed here for a week during the summer holidays as a family of 6 (5 adults, 1 child and a dog) and loved every minute. Gaynor was a lovely host, very thoughtful and responded to queries promptly. She also sent us some useful tips, not only for our stay but what’s around the area. We were provided with a welcome pack and the house had lots of equipment, even a wide range of cleaning essentials. You will never experience a better view than this, we had some wonderful sunrise and sunsets from here and the sound of the sea was so relaxing. The only downside is the road to get to it (which was advertised and explained) It is very narrow which will just about fit one car and not a proper road. If you aren’t confident at driving or unable to walk well, this may not be the place for you. There is a walkway down the garden which brings you out at the side of the Springwell inn and you can then get straight onto the beach. We really loved our stay. Thank you again Gaynor, we hope we can stay another time.
Lovely view, nice cottage. Not good on wet days when having to walk up grassed hill to cottage with only a railing halfway up when you come to the steps part. Some health and safety needs looking at inside cottage had a few incidents happening our stay.

Disliked: Communication, listing accuracy
I was very poorly on arrival with long term kidney disease/failure and I had a man twice in first 3 days at the door requesting I contact the host so I did I explained that I had been so poorly I was going to have to go to hospital that day and I was asked if I could let the cleaners in on Friday 3 days ahead and pay 25 for them as she was having a viewing to sell the property on Saturday at 11am and could I vacate the premises for two hours and her estate agent had a key. I was flabbergasted as I had booked a month with possibly a second month as I was looking at properties myself and she had not mentioned that let alone to be having viewings. I had my son collect my dog and grab my suitcase with some clothes for me and I contacted the host two days later asking her why I couldn’t get in the property and she said because I had left such a mess by sleeping in all of the beds in the house I had paid for the entire property and I had used and adjust to much gas . I was so angry but still to poorly so I went home asking for a a refund and all my belongings locked in the house to be sent to me and I was told no and received neither. I am going ahead with actually suing them and I am currently working with a solicitor. Awful worst experience and human being I’ve ever come across. Steer clear! The house was stunning but you just get robbed.

This guest totally abused my trust and my property. I have been renting my property for over ten years and this is the first time I have encountered such disgraceful behaviour escalating to threatening me personally and even threatening to break back into the property even though she had vacated of her own accord. The house was left in a dreadful condition with cigarette ash everywhere and she had used dessert bowls as ashtrays as smoking was only permitted outside. After vacating she was most eager to receive a refund prior to my manager visiting the property. Due to her poor health I was contemplating giving a partial refund as a gesture of good will because no refund was applicable once she had occupied the property as per VRBO terms but thankfully I insisted on waiting for my managers findings after which I refused to give a refund being totally appalled by the findings. Following this I was continuously bombarded by her abusive messaging escalating to me contacting the local Police Force. VRBO have investigated this complaint and have found in my favour. It was an extremely distressing incident and I wish no other host such an experience.
We stayed in this really charming, and well equipped holiday home in the May half-term. My family and I had an amazingly enjoyable and relaxing holiday in this beautiful place. Pendine was lovely. We had lovely days chilling out and rock pooling on the beach. Having morning and evening swims/paddles, and lovely walks through the surrounding area.
All my boys were entertained aged 5, 9, 16 and 18.
We had a lovely day out walking around Laugharne, and a shopping/sightseeing trip to Tenby. Both were fantastic and enjoyed by all too.
The star factor of the holiday is the location of the property, and the spectacular views. We hope to return.

Ideal spot and fantastic view
Gorse hill is an ideal spot for totally relaxed vacations - everything is as shown on the photos. The house is very spacious, comfortable, calm, clean and really well equipped.
We found every thing that was promised - plus a welcome bottle of fine wine, milk and bread - Thank you! An Information folder delivered every Information we needed (incl. a timetable for the tide and one for the bus) - so we felt at home from the first moment. The highlight is the superb view - we admired it in the early morning, during the day or in the evening... The region is ideal for walking as there are numerous very interesting (though sometimes strenuous) sections of the Pembrokeshire coastal path within one hours drive or even by bus - and one directly starting at the garden door.. We enjoyed our stay every day!

We had an amazing week!
We loved our stay so much, even the 4 teens! And dogs!
The area is fantastic, the view from the house amazing! And listening and watching the ocean from the patio was just perfect.
The garden was brilliant, our dogs were in their element.
All amenities were at the bottom of the garden, including an old school pub which did such good home cooked food, we ate there 3 times and daily popped in for a drink. The staff were excellent!
The weather we got was mixed from wet/windy to glorious sunshine and still fantastic.
The Cliff walks were great, we were all in the sea every day with the paddle boards/kayaks/body boards. It was so relaxing and perfect.
The kids met locals the same age who took them cliff jumping and exploring!
All the locals were extremely friendly and helpful! The Chinese was delicious, the bistro was fab with live music and cocktails. The cafe by the pit stop shop also had great food!
We only ventured out one day along the coast road through the beautiful seaside hamlets to Tenby & then popped in Heatherton Activities Centre which was well priced & excellent for a variety of ages!
It was so relaxing and I’m so pleased we decided to not go abroad or to Cornwall!
Gaynor was very attentive & an exceptional host. So grateful to her!
Thank you for making us fall in love with the area & with wales! We can’t wait to revisit! ❤️
The only thing that would of made it better would be a king size bed & thicker duvet downstairs!

Perfect location - lovely cottage
What a lovely house in a quiet idyllic location! The views from the conservatory (our favourite room) are absolutely stunning. In the evening, it was such a pleasure to sit and watch the picturesque beach of Pendine and seaside. (We have been lucky enough to watch the Fireworks for the Jubilee Celebrations from the cottage, we probably had the best spot in the village).
The cottage is spacious, comfortable, well equipped and has everything you might need. (even for cooking) . We could not have asked for more. Our little ones loved the place from the minute they walked through the door. They were also so pleased to find the books, teddies and board games. (and the TV in their bedroom). We also had a TV in the main bedroom and downstairs!
The cottage is very close from the beach, the main street and the shops which was perfect for us! The nearest pub / restaurant is really good for families, we’ve enjoyed a nice meal and the portions are big. There were also some good takeaways (the pizza one especially) which was convenient. Even on rainy days, we’ve been to an adventure park called Folly Farm, and really you can spend the whole day there, on top of a zoo, farm animal and a lot more, they have an Indoor Funfair (we went back again on another rainy day, was half price if you went back again during the same week)! I was blown away by the size of it. On a sunny day, Tenby is worth visitng and Pendine beach is so beautiful, we have done so long walks there.
We had a Coastal Path very close from the house, we only went for a short stroll with the children but already had spectacular panoramic views. Worth exploring!
The people in Pendine are really friendly and welcoming. We might not have had the best weather but we have certainly had a fantastic time and are planning to come back to go and visit the places we wanted to explore. (Also really wanted to go on a seal and wildlife spotting boat tour)
We would definitely recommend staying here! Thank you Gaynor, this is truly an amazing place.

Absolutely delighted you and your family enjoyed your holiday at Gorse Hill Cottage. In spite of the weather you managed to make the most of Pendine and West Wales where there is something for all ages.
Gorse Hill Cottage is certainly unique and its position in the village is perfect, I'm sure the bonfire and firework display was spectacular and even better when you could enjoy it from a comfortable and warm conservatory.
Many, many thanks and I do hope you will return in the future.
A fabulous location and a really super property with lots of nice touches. Best restaurants are in Saundersfoot (especially the Stone Crab if you can get in!). Easy access to the beach and lovely long beach walks when the MOD red flags are not flying.
Spent lots of time on the patio with a cold drink enjoying the view.
This is a fabulous property in the number 1 location in Pendine. The pub, shops and beach are seconds from the house. The house is peculiar but very spacious. It isn't very modern but extremely functional with loads of space. Gaynor was really helpful and responsive throughout our stay. We loved our stay at GORSE Cottage and will be back!
Wow ,, what a view , couldn't have been better, the house has everything you need, the village is beautiful , the owners were extremely attentive and the plot was numero uno!!! The best place to stay in the UK bar none
Reviews are such a personal thing, depending so much on individual preferences and expectations, but for us Gorse Hill cottage proved to be the perfect holiday let. The location was wonderful with the most constantly amazing sea view and a very short stroll down the garden to the beach. We love walking and swimming, which are easy to do from the property and so we only ventured further afield by car once during our week’s stay. The cottage was well equipped and had everything we needed. We thought it was fabulous.
This is a lovely property well positioned with great views over Pendine Sands. The arrangements were excellent: efficient and responsive.
