About this property
Grand Chateau on 34 acre Vineyard minutes from Portland Oregon
WINE • BEER • CIDER • OH MY!
Welcome to Heathen Estate Winery, a one-of-a-kind 35-acre vineyard estate located just 20 minutes from downtown Portland, Oregon, and minutes from Vancouver, Washington. Whether you're planning a relaxing getaway, family reunion, corporate retreat, wedding, or special celebration, Heathen Estate offers a unique experience you simply won't find at a traditional vacation rental.
The property is home to Heathen Brewing Company, founded in 2012. What began in a converted horse barn has grown into a full-production craft brewery located just four miles from the estate. In 2015, Heathen opened its downtown restaurant, pairing handcrafted beer with outstanding food. In 2016, the family expanded again by adding this beautiful vineyard estate, creating Heathen Estate Winery and, more recently, our handcrafted ciders.
As our guest, you'll receive exclusive access to order our handcrafted wines, beers, ciders, and seltzers online with complimentary delivery directly to the estate before your arrival. There's nothing better than walking in to find your favorite beverages already chilled and waiting for you.
Events & Gatherings
Our standard reservation includes overnight accommodations for up to 16 guests.
Any gathering with more than 16 total people, including daytime visitors, is considered an event and must be approved in advance. We happily host weddings, celebrations, corporate retreats, and other special events, but additional event fees, guidelines, and rental requirements apply.
Unauthorized events are not permitted. If an unauthorized event occurs, a $1,500 event fee will be charged, utilities to the home may be discontinued, and all guests may be required to leave the property immediately.
We sincerely don't want that to happen. Please communicate your plans honestly before booking so we can help make your event a success.
Please Read Before Booking
Heathen Estate is a large, high-use country estate designed to be enjoyed by families, wedding parties, retreats, and larger groups. It is professionally cleaned before every stay and maintained with the goal of providing a clean, comfortable, and functional home—not a museum-quality environment.
This is not a luxury hotel, nor is it intended to be. It is a real home located on a working vineyard surrounded by farms and nature.
Country living naturally includes things such as:
Seasonal insects Birds and wildlife Spider webs Dust, pollen, and leaves Bird droppings on outdoor furniture from time to time The occasional insect that finds its way indoors despite regular professional pest management
If the possibility of encountering these normal elements of country living would negatively affect your vacation, this property may not be the best fit for your expectations.
Likewise, because this home regularly hosts larger groups, you may occasionally notice normal signs of use that are common in a well-loved estate. We continually maintain and improve the property, but our focus is providing a comfortable, enjoyable experience rather than a perfectly sterile environment.
We Live Next Door—Please let us know if you need anything.
Our goal is for every guest to have an amazing stay.
If you notice anything upon arrival—or at any time during your visit—that doesn't meet your expectations, please contact us immediately. We live nearby and can typically respond very quickly to address housekeeping concerns, maintenance issues, or anything else that needs attention.
We genuinely appreciate the opportunity to make things right during your stay. We cannot correct issues that are first reported after checkout.
Relax, Explore & Enjoy
Wake up to breathtaking vineyard views while enjoying coffee on the wraparound porch or from the private balcony of your suite. Take a stroll through the vineyard, watch wildlife from a distance, gather around with family and friends, or simply relax and escape the hustle of everyday life.
Heathen Estate isn't about perfection—it's about creating unforgettable memories in a beautiful country setting with the people who matter most.
We look forward to welcoming you to Heathen Estate Winery. Cheers!

Beautiful home…..great views, peaceful, serene, well worth every penny. We booked this property for a celebration of life and the amount of empathy that was given was unmatched. I truly appreciate the property manager.
This was our third year at the Grand château. We book it for our women’s retreat because it is perfectly furnished and situated. We love the fire pit and the indoor fireplace. The spacious kitchen and living area and especially the long table that we can all fit around are perfect for group activities. Sunny has been very accommodating and communicative. Looking forward to next year!
You get what they say until you get there and notice with the views, the peaceful tranquility of the place you literally get so much more. It was well worth the stay
We had a wonderful time at this property. My husband is turning 60, and this was a wonderful, roomy place for family and friends to gather and hang out. The fire pit was awesome, there was plenty of space for us to stretch out, and the kitchen was well laid-out.
We just finished our stay for a large family reunion and the house and the property were perfection! It was plenty of room - clean and the accommodations were like coming home and staying with family .. 10 out of 10 .. will definitely stay again
We hosted our wedding at this venue and it turned out beautiful. Guests enjoyed the spacious house, property and the beautiful views and vineyards. It was also nice to have family out of town stay in the rooms for wedding. Host was great about letting us scout place ahead of time to plan our wedding accordingly.
For the second year in a row, our women’s retreat has enjoyed this property for four fabulous days in October. It is perfectly suited to our purpose of rest and renewal. The home has everything we need plus lovely features such as the wrap-around porch, the indoor fireplace, and outdoor fire pit with beautiful chairs circling it. We appreciate the trust and communication we have consistently experienced with Sunny and can’t wait to come back next year. THANK YOU!
No property could have been more ideal for our women's retreat than this one. Not only did the home have everything we needed inside, but the views from the wrap-around porch/deck, landscape, sunrises, sunsets, and night sky contributed spectacularly to the sheer magic that we all felt for 5 days and 4 nights. We can't wait to come back next year. THANK YOU!
We had a “cousin reunion” (cousins range in age of 31-55) with everyone’s own family as well (ages 1-55).
This rental was absolutely perfect! The yard was amazing for us active family, including volleyball and kite flying. The open space in the house was welcoming and the kitchen had plenty of space to feed the whole crew!
Sonny was easy to communicate with and checkin / out was simple.
The winery chateau was an excellent fit for our family reunion/celebration. The property was overly spacious for our 3 generation family of 8, and the views in every direction were simultaneously jaw-dropping and calming. The kids loved being able to explore the vineyard and visiting the chickens at the farm.
As the host will tell you, it's an older home and shows it's age in certain areas, but the overall charm of the property more than compensates for these.
Sunny was helpful and responsive, even driving an hour after work to come assist with an issue in the kitchen.
We were originally a little worried about the location, but the house is an easy 15 minute drive to central Vancouver and 25 minutes from PDX, and is perfectly located to quickly get out into the country of southwest Washington.
We had a great time and would definitely stay here if in the area again!
Everyone in our family thoroughly enjoyed this place. The kitchen is amazing: so big, and excellent double ovens. It was very clean. One improvement would be to have bars of soap for the bathrooms and large trash bags in the kitchen. The bedrooms accommodated us all, and all the beds were comfortable, even the murphy bed. When we walked in, the beautiful table was all set up with 17 chairs, and ready for us to sit down. The home was so spacious, more than we anticipated. The pool table, the all-surround music, and the fireplace were bonuses everyone enjoyed. Outside, the grounds were ideal for a short hike or run, flag football, and just plain walking and enjoying the lovely landscape: Christmas tree farm, vineyards, fluffy cows, and clucking chickens. The host was a great communicator in telling us how to turn the fireplace on, etc. He was kind and respectful, too. We were blessed to find such a treasure hidden in the hills!
Overall, we wanted a house with ample space for 11 adults, 5 bathrooms, outdoor space, access to Portland, wineries, coast, and Columbia River Gorge hiking, and this worked perfectly. The photos do not do the house justice- it is clean, bright, open, and spacious. Everyone fit comfortably, and there were ample bathrooms with showers, including 1.5 bath on the main floor. There was space for several more people. There is a lovely fire pit in back with great sunset views and a convenient walking path that leads 1 mile to a wooded nature preserve with winding trails. We could sit outside at night and talk/laugh loudly without fear of disturbing others. The kitchen is stocked with necessary tools for cooking/baking, and there is a nearby grocery store. There is ample parking for several cars. The location is convenient- Portland airport is about a 25 min drive but fair warning crossing through Portland around 4pm-7pm was extremely slow and congested. The host is responsive and communicates well and helped with all questions. Minor drawbacks to the home: the openness/hardwood floors made it a bit echoey, so some heard others wake up early to make coffee/breakfast which might be a consideration for very light sleepers. The shower in the bedroom with bunkbeds did not consistently have hot enough water when multiple people were getting ready. The home could use minor updates, but it is clean, spacious, and in a great location. It fit our needs very well.

I thought I'd make you aware of our experience with this rental to see if we can come to any type of resolution. I consider this false advertising.
Upon arrival the evening of 11/7 I was surprised to see there was no outside lighting on the path to the house entry, stairs, or circle parking drive or on the side parking area by the garage. For safety reasons alone I would have expected some lighting. We used our cell phone lights to reach the entry because someone almost fell.
Upon entry to the estate we found the following to be far below what I expected based on the reviews and pictures, and especially for the high rental fee.
Kitchen - The initial appearance was nice. But that was not the case upon usage.
Refrigerator - Not clean. Wiped it out before using.
Cupboards and dishes - No organization of dishes or glassware. There was a lot of old expired food left. Generally, not clean.
Dishes and pans - Broken pans. Heavily burnt on food on bakeware, not usable. Very few spoons for some reason. Missing and mismatched dishes.
Coffee pot - Had an old filter and coffee still in it, completely molded. I cleaned it the best I could.
No extra garbage bags.
Keurig worked only part of the time.
Broken doors on entry table. Not an issue but wanted you to know.
Great room fireplace - Tried all instructions to get it to work. Never did.
Downstairs bathrooms - Only 1 had towel between the two bathrooms. Toilet paper holder missing.
Many other extensive issues.

The home and property were gorgeous and the perfect size for our family. We had a few issues with our stay. The first being that the cleaning seemed to have been rushed and unfinished. There were handfuls of potato chips between couch cushions, a crumby floor, pieces of trash on the front patio, food in the sink and linens were still in the dryers so I had to fold and finish up their laundry so we could make sure everyone had towels in their bathroom while still being short a few bath rugs. Many of the towels were stained and I feel that with a rental those should be replaced so guests know they’re being given clean things. Trash cans were also not empty when we arrived and there were no extra trash bags provided. The worst of all was that there was a used adult diaper in one of the nightstand drawers which is truly horrific. There were also a few broken things that I feel should be fixed in a rental such as a missing set of blinds, missing towel bar and the dishwasher falls forward every time you open it. Finally, I completely understand there are often a few linen/coat closets locked for personal supplies and things in the home, but the entire closet in the master bedroom was also locked which was a little frustrating to not have a place to hang things. More locked doors here than I’ve ever encountered. A beautiful property, but I would not stay here again. It seems like they have it set up for friends/family to stay, not strangers who expect a clean space and are paying.
We had a great time at this property. Everything was as advertised in the property. The hot water, heating was all great and there was plenty of space for a big group of 22 people. Overall we enjoyed our experience here.
The grouds and communication from the owner where great in the beginning. Grounds were beautiful, and communication great. Once inside, the floors were so sticky we had to Mop the downstairs again, and it was still sticky :/
Pilots on both water heaters were out so there was no hot water until the afternoon of saturday....which was NOT OK in my opinion. This should have been checked before we got there. It says that there are dishes to make a meal for a large group..this is half way the case, and was lucky we brought our own kitchen stuff. Light switches were broken, and light bulbs out, so we had to make due with what we could use. There was still garbage throughout the lawn and porch, broken posts in the porch railing that needed to be moved, or someone would stick themselves on the nails. T.v. and fireplaces seemed outdated enough that we had to Google proper instructions on how to get them to work, and only one would turn on. Tvs wouldn't hold wifi long enough to stream anything. Household stereo we couldn't get to work. It was a beautiful home, but not kept up, and made my experience not happy in the slightest. I Paid WAY to much for this place, and was offered a free meal at the owners restaurant to compensate .. . Curious why I would go to his restaurant, if his standards on housekeeping were this bad...
