Why they chose this property
Our family has been living on/visiting Washington Island since the 1800s. (Some of their photos are hanging on the walls.) The Island has something for everyone!
Our favorite places near this historic farmhouse include: - Red Cup Coffeehouse - delicious coffee, food, and cute items for sale - Fair Isle Books and Gifts - great bookstore with fair trade items - The Alby - burgers, cheese curds and delicious shakes. YUM! - Twice Around - the island thrift store, open seasonally and benefiting island organizations/programs - Kayaking and paddleboarding in Detroit Harbor. If you bring your own, you can launch from the nearby public boat launch at the end of Main Rd.
What makes this property unique
The house is registered as being built in 1900 as part of a local farm. When making updates/repairs we uncovered cord wood walls - a building style from the 1800s. We suspect the original cabin was built earlier in cord wood construction. After wall repairs, the original house’s cord wood was replaced in part of the living and dining rooms.
