A Cozy Farmstead Cottage Amidst Two Barns in Hudson Valley

This cozy cottage along with two barns was once part of a working farm. Hand-hewn original oak post and beam construction is exposed; it gives the cottage and its cathedral ceilings, a light drenched airy ambiance. Equipped with a full kitchen, one gets the country rustic atmosphere without forfeiting any modern conveniences. The reclaimed wood siding in the bedroom catches the early morning light reflections of the sunrise. Hand-crafted details abound, the cabinetry, hand-made glass, and photography add accents to the decor.
The bucolic surroundings are a great place for respite. One can relax in our perennial gardens or sit in the shade of the one hundred year old wooden barn amongst the hummingbirds and barn swallows. At night sit on our deck and enjoy a starry night or moon shadows without street-lighting to impede the night sky.
Located in Stone Ridge, we are only minutes away from the historic village center which is convenient for restaurants, groceries, and farm fresh products. At the same time, we are located on a quiet country road. Our landscape is peppered with horse farms, corn fields and even an alpaca farm!
Did you know that the New York Senate resided in Stone Ridge back in the early days?
Situated between the breathtaking views of the Shawangunk Ridge and the Catskill Mountains; numerous hiking, biking, world- renowned rock climbing, horse riding, fly-fishing and kayaking possibilities abound. Farm to table, antiques, local produce and fruit picking are amongst only a few other great activities. Winter sports include ice climbing, cross country and downhill skiing.
Parking and Wifi are included.
A stocked kitchen, a ceiling fan, iPod speakers/dock, a hairdryer are additional amenities. Outside, we can provide a charcoal barbeque, a bistro table and chairs, lounge chairs, and fresh herbs to pick!

If the hosts ask to meet you, say yes!! They are every bit as fascinating as this location and cottage are. The history behind the place, the talented folks who did the restoration , the peacefulness of the place all combine to make it a perfect location for a country getaway. It is well equipped and located near small towns that offer any supplies or groceries you may need. The hosts offer this accommodation with an authenticity and warmth that is rare. From this safe haven, all manner of great adventures are possible within close range. Trust me, you will be looking for an excuse to return.

A serene getaway

The cabin was even cozier and more beautiful than it looks in the pictures. The highs were in the mid-80s and the air conditioning unit kept the cabin cool and comfortable. We had a lot of fun exploring Stone Ridge, High Falls, Kingston, and New Paltz- all within a 30 min. drive from the cabin. Highly recommend for a relaxing weekend trip!

Picturesque and tranquil cottage

Cottage was super clean! Probably the cleanest rental home we’ve experienced. The location was fantastic… a short, scenic drive to everywhere we visited. The bed was very comfortable! I would encourage mentioning that the bathroom is very small and the step up/step down for the shower is quite high. It was fine for my husband and I. But a larger person or someone with mobility issues could really struggle.

A comfortable and quiet cottage

The owner took the time to meet me upon arrival and answer any questions I had about the surrounding area. The property sits on a quiet well-maintained corner lot. The surrounding barns are well maintained. The inside of the cottage is clean and functional. Full kitchen is perfect for short and long term stays. Couch and bed are very comfortable. I would recommend it to others.

The location was nice and quiet, clean and well-maintained.Pretty little place. Nice size rooms. The owners were easy to get in touch with and friendly. Two things I would change: the shower is way too high off the floor without a little step for safety. There should be a way to curtain the window in the kitchen so it doesn't let the sunlight fill the bedroom at 7 in the morning. Besides that, great place!

Great little cottage to spend a relaxing weekend

Everything went well for my partner and I at this cottage over MLK weekend. Reinhold and Lisette were easy to communicate with via text and email leading in to the weekend, but weren't overbearing at all. It was a cold weekend (it was January) but the space stayed warm. The property is on a quiet street outside of High Falls, and the cottage is on this sort of open yard next to two functioning barns. I think it would be very pretty in the summer. The red cottage is a small, 1 bedroom space with a vaulted ceiling so does not feel cramped. You walk in to the living area and have a couch and table, and the room flows in to a kitchen area with a great standing bar. Then to the left, there is a smaller area/room where the bed, desk, and wardrobe are. Everything worked well enough - wifi was strong, had hot water. Very clean, hardwood floors, and was comfortable for 2 to hang out in and eat and watch a movie. I think the location would be perfect if you were looking to poke around the little picturesque towns in the area like High Falls, Stone Ridge, Rosendale, etc, all 10 or less mins away. Would also be good if you had to work a bit over a weekend, as there is a table and desk to work at. We tried Nest's Egg and Lekker, both very close and both very good. About 5 minute drive to a shopping area with a grocery, pharmacy, bank and dunkin donuts. For us, it was a bit far from the hiking we wanted to do in Slide Mountain wilderness (40 mins), but that's our own fault. Also, its not remote, wooded, or nestled away on a hillside, nor is it particularly walkable; you are out in the country, of course, but its near other homes. Its not the most luxurious of all cottages, so keep that in mind, and like I said, small - I wouldn't want to bring the kids, would feel cramped. The fridge buzzes a little bit, a normal sound for such an appliance, but generally one doesn't sleep in such proximity. Just something to know. The bathroom is quite small, as is the fridge and oven. The bed is a queen (maybe a twin?), and the place is tastefully decorated but in sort of an IKEA-chic style? Anyway, something to know if you are trying to get all snobby or indulgent about it - we found it right up our alley.

It was a beautiful spot!! We wished it wasnt so hot and humid out so we could have enjoyed the outdoor spaces more. We drove only 1 hr away to check out the woodstock museum, so cool! Bathroom was very small!! I wish the string lights out in the sitting area worked. Overall a great stay.

Cozy Getaway Upstate

My husband and I had a lovely stay. The cottage was warm and cozy. We had everything we needed for a quick getaway and the kitchen was well stocked. We enjoyed having a coffee on the deck in the morning and star gazing at night. We spent the weekend hiking at Lake Minnewaska and enjoying meals in the town of Stone Ridge. Would definitely come again!

Fantastic value

This property is a fantastic value, and an excellent place to stay on a budget in the Hudson River Valley. It's well-located, with pretty views on a quiet corner. Close to nearby towns and within driving distance of everything the Hudson Valley offers. The cabin itself is lovely with great light and a spacious layout. Kitchen, bathroom, etc. were well-equipped, and the chairs on the deck were a nice touch that we enjoyed. The owners were responsive, kind, and helpful. A great place to stay!

Peaceful Getaway

Our stay was absolutely magical and exactly what we were hoping for! The property is beautiful and unique, and my husband and I enjoyed the quiet solitude that the cottage provided. Equally as enjoyable was hearing about the history of the property and the care and attention to detail that they put into restoring the barns, flowers, and fruit trees. We watched hummingbirds and deer mosey around from the porch while watching the sunset, and the stars were incredibly bright in the evenings. We also appreciated the charming towns and the many hikes nearby, and saw incredible views while hiking Gertrudes Nose. We could not have been more pleased with our stay, thank you for sharing this special place with us!

Beautiful area, lovely cottage

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. The surrounding rural area is beautiful and peaceful. We were close to everything we wanted to see and do, as well as many delicious restaurants. We highly recommend The Roost for breakfast and Arrowood Farms Brewery for great beverages and food! Lissette was very welcoming, and the cottage was clean and well kept. We would love to return sometime!

I have been lucky to have lived in many different places. Through my training as an architect, I learned to have a great respect for the natural and built environment. When I travel, I like to understand a place through the lens of the people living there and their history. So when I saw our barns for the first time, I fell in love with them immediately. The barns and the rural landscape surrounding them are really a part of our shared iconic heritage. Unfortunately, each year many more barns disappear. We have been slowly renovating the barns on our own. Come enjoy them and relax in our bucolic surroundings!

Why they chose this property

In response to COVID-19, our cottage will be left empty mid-week, 5 days between guests, mindfully cleaned and disinfected to offer a safe environment. Sunday evenings have been blocked to avoid back to back bookings, but there is flexibility with the dates, so please write to us with your inquiry to see if we can accommodate.
