About this property
Ravenwood Retreat: an Alaskan forest hideaway at the end of the road.
Welcome to the Ravenwood Retreat outside of Seward, Alaska. Our property is right next to the Iditarod Trailhead, is bordered by a glacier fed river, and surrounded by undeveloped public lands. We love this property because there's a large private yard surrounded by old growth forest, peek-a-boo mountain views on clear days, and we enjoy watching local birds nesting around the property. This is the perfect Alaskan retreat for families!
The space
This property has an open living room that looks out on to the expansive yard and neighboring forest. The kitchen is fully appointed with everything you could need to prepare full meals for a group, with a dining room surrounded by local Alaskan artwork.
The three bedrooms are clean, comfortable, and have great natural light. The master bedroom has a bathroom ensuite to enjoy, while the other two rooms share a bathroom. There are a variety of Alaskan visitor guides, board games, and Alaskan books to enjoy in the China cabinet.
Guest access
Our guests have access to the entire house and our acre of yard. Guests do not have access to the garage and outlying sheds in the yard.
Other things to note
We are 10 minutes away from the nearest grocery stores in the area: Safeway and Seward Market Place. We highly recommend that our guests consider buying food in Anchorage before coming down to Seward as our grocery stores are small and inventory can run out without notice.
At the house we will provide some basic amenities like salt, pepper, cooking spray, coffee, tea, and sugar.
Please remember that Seward is in a temperate rain forest and the summers here are mild if not cold at times. We highly recommend our guests to dress in layers, bring a waterproof jacket, hat, gloves, and anything else that is your preference that will keep you warm. Alaska is not the place to dress to impress but a place where it is very important to dress appropriately for the weather. Although the sun maybe shining, viewing a glacier will not be warm...ever. Keep that in mind while you're packing and planning your outings.
Secure keypad access provided to all registered guests 24 hours prior to your arrival.
Wifi is available and we also have a smart TV in the living room for you to enjoy your favorite shows and movies.
If you drive an electric vehicle there is a free charging station at the Seward Chamber of Commerce. Charging of electric vehicles is not allowed on rental property.

Hey there!
We're Heather and Leif, local born and raised Alaskans proudly hosting in our beautiful hometown of Seward, Alaska.
Our property is unique because it is surrounded by undeveloped public land and bordered by Salmon Creek and the Iditarod Trail. Although we are only 10 minutes from town, at our place you will feel like you are far away from everything!
We are so excited to meet you and hope your stay with us will be the highlight of your trip!

Why they chose this property
Leif and I choose this neighborhood because it's quiet, safe, and surrounded by nature. It's the perfect place to raise our family!
The inside of our home is well appointed, clean, and cozy! The perfect place to rest after a great Alaskan adventure in Seward, Alaska. I love the light colored floors and comfy beds. The kitchen is stocked with all you could need to make meals on site and our glacier fed well provides fresh clean water that tastes fantastic.
It is wonderful to come home and be welcomed by the sounds of rushing water from Salmon Creek through the trees near our home. On clear days we enjoy Mountain views around the fire pit as we gather together enjoying hot dogs and s’mores over the fire. The pleasant songbirds and fresh sent of spruce make me proud to call this place home and it is for this reason that we want to share it with our guests with VRBO.
Thank you for considering staying with us at Ravenwood Retreat.

What makes this property unique
I think one of the biggest things that make our property unique is that you can't see our neighbors. The surrounding space and tree coverage make our property super private but still close enough to town.
I also love that the Iditarod trail is right out our back door in the cul-de-sac right next to our house where there is always an abundance of blueberries in the fall. In August the salmon will come up Salmon Creek to spawn in Bear Lake and we have a lovely salmon viewing area before people turn onto the road to our house. Seeing the salmon come back every fall never gets old.
Finally, I love our home because of its close proximity to Bear Lake. When Leif and I were growing up we would XC ski and ice skate on the lake in the winter and swim and kayak in the summer. The lake, the hiking in the area, the quiet nature, and wonderful people that live in are subdivision are all the reasons why we chose this area to live and raise our family. In our opinion our neighborhood is the best in the area and this is why we are sharing it with our summer guests.
