This was by far the worst experience I have ever had with a vacation rental. Within the first 30 minutes of arriving at the property, we encountered multiple roaches starting at the front door in the foyer and continuing into the kitchen and near the living room. As a result, our group was extremely uncomfortable and immediately contacted both the host and Vrbo to request a full refund so we could find alternative accommodations. The host suggested that we clean up the roaches and wait a few days to see if more appeared, which was completely unreasonable. Vrbo informed us that roaches are considered a “minor issue” and that any refund was solely at the discretion of the host. Shortly after, the host stopped responding to calls and messages. When communication resumed—with Vrbo customer service present—the host insinuated that we may have planted the roaches to obtain a refund and further claimed that we could not afford the property. These statements were offensive, unprofessional, and entirely unfounded. The host ultimately denied our refund request.Additional issues discovered at check-in included a broken or lopsided bed and malfunctioning living room lights, some of which did not turn on while others flickered and were very dim. While these issues were inconvenient, they could be considered minor. The presence of roaches, however, is never minor, and it is unreasonable to expect anyone to stay in such conditions during a week-long vacation. I'd caution future renters.
