About this property

The Waterwheel - Waterfront Retreat on Dyes Inlet

The Waterwheel is not just a waterfront retreat. It's the closest you'll get to sleeping on the water without leaving dry land.

Perched at the water's edge on Dyes Inlet, The Waterwheel is the most immersive unit in the Black Pearl on Dyes Inlet collection — a generous one-bedroom retreat whose open living room runs right along the waterline, framed by the slow, hypnotic turn of the working waterwheel just outside. Every design decision here points toward the inlet. The deck doesn't overlook the water — it sits over it.

The bedroom is distinctly romantic. A king bed faces the inlet, morning light off the water the first thing you see. The private bath has its own sauna — exclusive to this unit, and reason enough to book it.

Full resort amenities included — private gravel beach, swimming dock, kayaks and paddleboards, beachside firepit, BBQ grill, mature gardens and patios, multiple waterfront lookout points, and pickleball court. Clamming at the beach. Bald eagles overhead. And on rare, magical occasions, orcas passing through the inlet just below.

The Waterwheel is one of four units at Black Pearl on Dyes Inlet — a private waterfront compound where every space has its own character and entrance. The Helm is the flagship five-bedroom A-frame just steps away. The Loft is a garden-view retreat above the detached garage. The Perch — opening September 2026 — is a modern glass treehouse perched in the canopy above. Each unit is available separately, or contact us to coordinate a full compound experience sleeping up to 22.

This is Black Pearl, at the water's edge.

Black Pearl Waterwheel unit was a beautiful, comfortable and exceptionally clean one bedroom unit with a private waterfront balcony. The styling was tasteful and uncluttered. Adrienne left us with a “Nothing Bundt Cake” that was delicious. We chatted with Adrienne’s dad, a metalsmith, who has several pieces displayed on the property-I love the organics of his work. We appreciated Adrienne reaching out but we weren’t in need of anything. The gas grill worked well for cooking our meals. We watched seals from the deck hunting for dinner and also saw several bald eagles fly past. This was a stop over place from Mt. Baker to the Olympic Peninsula and we visited the Roam Wolfdog Sanctuary in Shelton that was an incredible learning experience-highly recommend. Didn’t try the sauna, it was too hot. Overall the Black Pearl Waterwheel was an exceptional stay and we would definitely recommend them as hosts.

About the host

Host profile image
We’re a local, hands-on hosting team behind Black Pearl—focused on creating thoughtful, well-designed stays that feel both elevated and effortless.
We spend a lot of time on the Kitsap Peninsula ourselves, and what we love most is the slower pace, the access to the water, and the ability to truly unwind. That’s what we aim to create for our guests—a place where you can settle in, disconnect a bit, and enjoy the kind of stay you don’t want to rush through.
While we’re always available if needed, we’re intentional about giving guests space to enjoy the property on their own terms.

Why they chose this property

We chose Chico and the Dyes Inlet area for its unique balance of privacy and accessibility.
It’s one of those rare places where you feel tucked away in nature—surrounded by water, trees, and wildlife—but you’re still just minutes from town, great dining, and everyday conveniences. You get the best of both worlds: peaceful mornings on the water and easy access to explore Bremerton, Poulsbo, Silverdale, or even Seattle via ferry.
There’s also something special about this inlet. It’s calm, scenic, and full of life—from eagles overhead to seals and the occasional orca passing through. It feels like a true Pacific Northwest escape without being remote.

What makes this property unique

What makes this property special is the combination of true waterfront access, curated amenities, and a boutique, high-touch experience.
You’re not just near the water—you’re on it. Guests can launch kayaks from the property, gather around the fire pit by the beach, or spend the afternoon on the pickleball court. At the same time, each unit is designed to feel private and intentional, with its own space to relax and take in the views.
We’ve also focused on creating a stay that feels easy—from thoughtful touches inside the unit to being available locally if anything is needed. It’s that balance of independence and support that really defines the Black Pearl experience.
