Bed Bugs
Where do I even begin?Upon checking in, we were immediately hit with a strong, unpleasant smell of garbage. Unlike the neighboring properties that stored their trash bins outside, this property kept full, reeking bins inside a sweltering garage. We moved the cans outside and aired out the home for several hours. It wasn’t a dealbreaker—just an annoying and unnecessary start. I notified Luxury Beach Rentals, the property manager, as a courtesy. But the real problem? Bed bugs. Each morning, I woke up with a few more bites. At first, I assumed they were mosquito bites or maybe even a heat rash. I Googled how to check for bed bugs but didn’t find anything conclusive—just a few specks of blood on the sheets. It wasn’t until the seventh day that I woke up absolutely covered in bites, clearly having an allergic reaction. My skin was inflamed, and I was miserable.I immediately contacted the property manager via email, text, and phone. They sent someone out, and shortly after, confirmed what I already suspected: a bed bug infestation. They told me nothing could be done until we vacated the property, and offered not to charge me for the final two nights if I chose to leave. But we didn’t want to risk carrying bed bugs to another rental—and passing that nightmare on to someone else. So, I moved a mattress from a bunk bed and slept on the basement floor for the remainder of our stay. I was itchy, uncomfortable, and disgusted. My room was the only one affected, but understandably, no on
