About this property

Cliffside Egg Harbor Retreat With Sweeping Bay Views on 5 Wooded Acres

Nestled high on top of the Niagra Escarpment lies Lookout Ledge, a tranquil, 3-level, quintessential Door County home. Take in the breathtaking views of Green Bay from one of the several back decks and enjoy the peace and quiet of the surrounding 5 acres of mature birch and pine trees. Gather in the living room with its bank of windows overlooking the bay or escape into the sun room with a cup of coffee or glass of wine. Cook up delicious meals in the spacious kitchen with all new appliances, or head out to one of the many restaurants in and around the quaint town of Egg Harbor. Enjoy a day at nearby Frank Murphy Park beach, hike through Peninsula State Park, or bring your bike and explore the miles of backcountry roads past old barns and cherry orchards. For a more relaxing day, tour a winery or visit one of the many quaint shops or art galleries. Back at the house, fire up the grill and watch the sun set over the bay, then retreat to one of the bedrooms (each on its own floor and with its own bathroom). Throughout the house, you'll find thoughtful details and amenities including towels, linens, basic soaps, shampoo and conditioner, a washer and dryer with laundry detergent and fabric softener, a well stocked kitchen and more. Come unwind, recharge, and make unforgettable Door County memories at Lookout Ledge.

Nothing but compliments! House is in a quiet wooded setting; very private. Large open area for dinners and game nights. Small, quaint area for morning coffee. Great views of sunsets from the deck. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Owners were a pleasure to work with.

We really enjoyed our stay here. My group was 3 couples and we each had a bedroom and bathroom to ourselves. It was nice to sit on the deck and have lots of trees and privacy around us. I can imagine how beautiful this spot would be in fall. We saw a bald eagle each morning in a tree closer to the water. The house was in a good central location to experience all of Door County. Favorite nearby restaurants were The Rusty Tractor for breakfast and The Fireside for dinner.

Thank you for your nice (and detailed!) review. I'm so glad you all enjoyed the house and the views from the deck (including the eagle sightings). You were great guests, and we would welcome you back any time. And yes, it's SO pretty here in the fall. The birch trees that line the driveway all turn bright yellow. :)

This is a beautiful turn-key home that was very clean and comfortable. I cannot provide any constructive criticism or recommendations for improvement because I honestly can't think of anything that could have been better. We will definitely look here first for a place to stay the next time we stay in Door County. Thank you Kathy & Dave for a wonderful vacation stay!

The home is positioned for perfect Bay views. Its location on the Peninsula allowed for us to travel North and South without the feel of long distance drives. The home was immaculately clean with necessary amenities. The rooms are large and gave our party the gathering spaces needed for quality time together. I highly recommend this home for families needing the extra space and wanting the beautiful views. Kathy was fantastic with communication and immediately available for questions and helpful ideas. We hope to return.

Spectacular sunset views of Green Bay from relaxing deck. Beautifully maintained property and well equipped kitchen. Lovely hosts available to give suggestions for restaurants and activities. Most important feature for our family; real beds with real mattresses in all bedrooms allowing restorative sleep. If you know, you know. This feature is what will bring us back to the property in the future. Bonus: perfect location allowing easy access to Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, and Ephraim. Such a lucky find. We will return for future adventures in Door County.

About the host

Hosted by Dave & Kathy Wisner

Host profile image
We moved to Door County from Glencoe, IL after Dave retired as a math teacher. We knew we wanted something meaningful to take on together, and that’s what led us to buy Lookout Ledge and spend eight months restoring it. We love the views of the bay and watching the bald eagles who are often perched in the trees off the deck. Dave used to stay at the Alpine Resort down the road as a kid, so even though we are recent residents, Dave's history in Door County goes way back (even his grandparents had their honeymoon at the Alpine in the 30s!). We currently live in Baileys Harbor in a house we used to rent out on VRBO. As past hosts, we know what renters like (and don't like!). Being local, we can help out with anything you need during your stay with us.

Why they chose this property

We have always loved riding our bikes along Bluff Ledge Road and were thrilled to have the opportunity to buy a house there. Perched high on the Niagra Escarpment, the views of Green Bay are spectacular. It's a very wooded area of Door County, too -- beautiful all year round but especially in the summer and fall.

What makes this property unique

We fell in love with this property before we even walked in the door. The winding driveway takes you down a slight hill past towering birch and pine trees. The house itself is a split level with a large living/dining room that has a vaulted ceiling and offers endless views of Green Bay. We like how each bedroom is on a separate floor with its own bathroom so everyone has privacy. Kathy's favorite room is the sun room off the dining room. It's got a small love seat that she likes to curl up on with a book and a cup of coffee. Dave is partial to the main deck, even if it's cold out. The sunsets from there are really special.
