During the Advent and Christmas seasons, houses and streets are festively decorated. <br><br>There’s plenty to discover for active holidaymakers and those seeking leisurely enjoyment alike. During the cold season, the low mountain range becomes a must-visit destination for winter sports enthusiasts, with numerous ski slopes offering plenty of fun for young and old alike. The highest-altitude town, the spa resort of Oberwiesenthal, is easily accessible by public bus.<br><br>Away from the slopes, you can watch small wooden works of art being created in demonstration workshops or explore the mountain town of Annaberg-Buchholz, for example.<br>As temperatures rise, the natural beauty of “Miriquidi”—as this densely forested region was once called—invites you to explore it on well-maintained hiking trails or to follow in the footsteps of miners deep underground (for example, in neighbouring Ehrenfriedersdorf). <br><br>Those interested can look forward to visiting Scharfenstein Castle, Augustusburg, or Wolkenstein Palace. <br><br>Those looking for a more leisurely pace will find an oasis of relaxation at the Silber-Therme in the Warmbad thermal spa (home to the warmest thermal spring in Saxony’s oldest spa town) or at the Therme Miriquidi in the spa town of Wiesenbad. <br><br>Music lovers should check out the Thumer Musikfest Dreiklang, the Musikfest Erzgebirge, and various small summer concerts held in different churches. The theatre in Annaberg and the Greifensteine Open-Air Stage also offer cultural variety.<br><br>The Zeiss Planetarium in Drebach invites all stargazers to events that take place regardless of the weather. For narrow-gauge railway enthusiasts, the Pressnitztalbahn and Fichtelbergbahn are highly recommended. <br><br>Our small holiday home, “Alte Schmiede,” is located close to the town centre on a quiet side street; there’s a bakery just a few houses down, and the high street—with additional shopping options—is just a few minutes’ walk away. <br><br>On the ground floor, an anvil, a blacksmith’s hammer, and tools still bear witness to the building’s past as a blacksmith’s shop. <br><br>The holiday rental is located on the upper floor.<br>The brightly furnished duplex apartment invites you to relax after an eventful day in the Ore Mountains.
