This is one of those rare occasions when the photographs don't really do full justice to the property. Upon arrival we were immediately delighted by the striking parklike grounds boasting a multitude of mature specimen trees and rolling, manicured lawns. A beautiful terrace sits all along the rear of the main house, fringed by country garden planting where lavender, roses, buddleia and jasmine attract butterflies and honey bees. We could happily spend all day sitting on this terrace, well equipped with garden furniture and a large dining table, admiring the grounds - and in the evenings the huge firepit was fun to sit around chatting until the small hours. The main house is stylishly furnished and has an excellently equipped modern kitchen in an open plan arrangement with a dining area comfortably seating 12 and a lovely informal sitting room with massive fireplace. There is a secondary TV lounge and useful utility room and entrance hallway for shoes and raincoats (yes, there were a few rainy days). The 4 first floor bedrooms are all good sized doubles with plenty of wardrobe space. There are 2 ensuites and a family bathroom, all obviously recently installed with modern fittings. About 100 metres away from the main house is the guest house with 2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchenette and sitting room which made a very comfortable and semi-independent space for the 4 teenagers in our family group. The tennis court is new and well kept, the pool area well-appointed with loungers and offering some natural shade from the nearby trees. Both are sufficiently distant from the main house to offer separate areas to enjoy the property. There is a delightful vegetable garden from which you are encouraged to enjoy the produce. The grounds are around 10 acres including a couple of acres of woodland to explore. Our kids could happily disappear off into the garden for hours at a time. A path from the house takes you into the sleepy nearby village of Blangy le Chateau in around a 15 minute walk where you can find a good boulangerie, brasserie and epicerie. Plenty to see in the area including our top picks Bayeux and Deauville. Nearest town is Pont l'Eveque which is well served with supermarkets and restaurants. Frederic the gardener looked after us admirably during our stay and Jean-Christophe the owner was charming to deal with throughout the whole process. All 11 of us had a marvellous stay and would heartily recommend the property.
