Nothing Short of Magical at Lanikai!

Do not hesitate…book if available!! Not only is this location perfect, clean, well appointed, and comfortable; it is owned by the nicest possible hosts! Margie and Leroy are around if you need anything at all; but the property is large enough and set up in a way that you all have privacy. I highly recommend this location! The description and pictures as well as the other reviews are quite accurate. Lanikai Sunrise is a second floor apartment (but not apartment like) with incredible views of the ocean, landscape and surroundings through large windows and patio doors. This creates the most wonderful tropical breeze throughout the interior. It does get warm during the day if one is not quite used to the climate, and the AC works extremely well in the bedrooms in the heat of the day. The interior is beautiful, updated and beachy in feel with white ceiling, ocean blue and yellow tones are tranquil and allow the inside to blend into the beachfront views. A large open concept family/dining/kitchen area looks out over the large deck to the ocean, and is complimented by two full bedrooms and one full bath. One bedroom with a queen size bed second bedroom with two twins, both air-conditioned. Each bedroom faces the street and has its own lanai facing the mountain. There’s plenty of storage area for hanging clothes and stuffing away suitcases. The bathroom is large and clean with plenty of storage there too. I was on an extended holiday and took advantage of the full-size refrigerator freezer and a large beautiful kitchenette. I recommend going to Costco at the start of your trip if you’ll be there and plan on doing some cooking/ light meal/ dinners at your beachfront dream flat. The kitchen has everything you could need. We enjoyed having breskfast there daily and usually on the deck. Seriously huge!! Large comfortable deck space with a couple of lounge chairs and a table with four chairs complete an elevated and wonderful place to watch the turquoise waters, kayakers, waves, and moon rises!!! Enjoy it and do take the time to get to know your hosts! They put a smile on my face with every interaction! Thank you again for such a wonderful stay for myself, my husband, and our University student who popped in and out (she lives in Kailua.) We hope to be able to come back again!

Amazing hosts, property and location.

I can’t say enough good things about this property and the owners. Wonderfully located on the most southern tip of beautiful Lanikai Beach, this property is clean and comfortable and well-suited for a family of four. The owners are kind, thoughtful and helpful - if you stay, don’t hesitate to reach out to them or the property manager for anything related to your stay. The property itself is well-appointed with everything you’ll need for a longer stay, with our favourite feature being the large lanai with a bbq, lounge chairs, dining table and a beautiful view of the ocean. We’ll be back again!

I wanted a quiet place to stay away from all the hustle and bustle of the city. This was the perfect location. We had direct access to Lanikai Beach. The view was spectacular from our deck. We were also within walking distance of the pillbox hike. The hosts were very friendly and responsive to our needs. Would highly recommend!

Location, location, location

Beautiful home as described, with stunning beach and swimming right in the backyard. We were so happy with the property. The local surroundings offer breathtaking beaches, and great food. Amenities are plenty and close by. The only slight negative, one afternoon there was a film shoot that took place on the property, leading to the beach access. It would have been nice to have been given a heads up that this was happening. Other than that, a really wonderful stay. We’d recommend the property, and we’d be delighted to come back!

I have been around the globe and there is still Not a better place to stay on planet than Lanikai Beach. Place was amazing, owners were so gracious and friendly. Perfect spot for our family of 4. I have only been gone for a couple of hours and already want to go back. Mahalo for everything during our stay.

Gorgeous view and private beach access

We had a wonderful experience staying at this lovely property with the most amazing view of Lanikai beach. There is private beach access right from the backyard which is super convenient, especially when you have young children with you. Maggie and her husband were amazing hosts, very friendly and responsive. Maggie even went out of her way to get my daughter some gifts before we left! The place was very clean and the A/C in the living room and bedroom were live saving. The only complaint we had was not having A/C in the second bedroom or at least a stronger fan. It got very toasty in there and was uncomfortable at times for our au pair to sleep in. Otherwise the place was wonderful and we would love to stay here again.

Wonderful Property Beautiful location

Fantastic location - just steps away from an exquisite beach and amazing views. Very gracious owners. Everything you need to enjoy the property and location- boogie boards etc. Hope we are able to return to enjoy it again.

Fantastic property!

We had a fantastic time in Lanikai and would love to stay here again if/when we return to Oahu. The apartment was very clean and comfortable, and provided direct and ready access to the amazing beach. The view from the deck was superb, and we took full advantage of the barbecue on the deck, the beach umbrellas, beach chairs, and the two kayaks available to use. We really felt like this rental provided great value for a property on the beach. The property manager and the owners were wonderful and responsive to any questions we had. Mahalo for a wonderful visit!

Paradise

We can’t say enough about Lanikai Sunrise in Kailua! This is a paradise : the views are breathtaking, the sunrises divine, the beach is right in front of the house where you can swim, kayak, snorkel or just admire the wind surfers! You can see the Mokes off the big deck while you grill your fresh shrimp. Can life get better? There is a fun hike to a Pillbox also within walking distance of the house. Best of all there are easily a weeks worth of activities all within a short drive on Oahu: North shore for surfing and food trucks, Waikiki for history and museums, Pearl Harbor for every American, and lots of hiking (waterfalls, lighthouse, mountain ridges). For shoppers there is the Aloha Bowl on Wednesdays and weekends. You can buy multiple tee shirts for just a few dollars- so you can pack light and buy there. Tip: When you fly into Honolulu, stop at Costco to stock up on supplies. The coffee, macadamia nuts, fish and liquor prices are especially good at Costco. You do have to be a member. Lanikai Brewing is in town- and very popular. Buzz’s is right across from the public beach in Kailua and you can sit at President Obama’s table (plus the food is delicious). The dinner at Kalapawai Cafe was also very good. Service at both restaurants was attentive and helpful. The owners of Lanikai Sunrise in Kailua are wonderful hosts. They are there if you seek them out- otherwise you have total privacy. The home is clean and offers everything to get you started- suntan lotion, bath supplies, water, coffee and even a box of chocolate macadamia nuts (treat)! The bedding and towels are quality. Amenities like Netflix and a washer and dryer are also included. I love to cook so I was hesitant about the lack of a range. Turns out that the cook tops were fine and we used the grill a lot. Obviously I didn’t bake, but there was a lovely cookbook to read so I brought home recipes which I am baking here:) We have traveled the world and this is one of the most beautiful beaches we have seen. Go and enjoy; we certainly did!

Wonderful beach retreat!

We spent a week over New Years at the Lanikai Sunrise property and had a wonderful stay. The apartment is situated on the beach and the view is stunning from the deck. Even better is to walk down to the beach and watch the sunrise which I did most mornings. With the 2 twins in one room my boys slept happily and the beds were very comfortable. I even kayaked out to the bigger of the two Mokes (islands offshore) the day before I left with one of the kayaks provided. Word of caution - the landing is harder than you would think on a windy day, so gets some tips before going. Everything was thought of in this clean, tastefully decorated apartment and the few minor items that it was lacking were provided upon request. We used the convention oven to cook cinnamon rolls which worked fine - my first time using one. Also, the hot plate was fine for cooking eggs or pasta. With Whole Foods close by there isn't a huge need to make elaborate meals and also the grill worked great for us on several evenings/lunches for burgers, steaks or skewers. This is a special place and a special location and I hope to be back soon. The owners and manager are fantastic as well, warm and welcoming, friendly and fun!

One of the most beautiful beaches on Oahu!

A group of 4 of us just stayed in Dec 2018 and it was a beautiful setting. Pros: Very close to the beach and the pillbox hike. Homeowners were very friendly when we showed up and even gave us treats to take home on our last day. They have kayaks, snorkel gear, boogie boards and beach chairs for you to use while you're there which was a huge bonus. Beds were comfortable and there were plenty of good quality towels and linens, dishes and kitchen gadgets. They also gave us plenty of TP, paper towels, bath soaps and such. They seem like very generous folks! Cons: (The reason I didn't give it 5 stars) I honestly didn't know we were going to be above the homeowner's garage in a 2 bed apartment. That part was a little awkward. You will need to walk in front of their home to get to the beach. The apartments second bedroom doesn't have AC. Not a big deal since it was very breezy while we were there, but still very warm when you don't live in that climate. Transit bus goes by at 6:28 every morning and the bedrooms are facing the street, so if you're a light sleeper you may want ear plugs. The couch was comfortable, but the 2 cowhide metal chairs are not comfortable at all. There are 2 plug in cooktops that work quick, but took up most of the counter space. We like to cook when we stay in VRBO's and it was a pretty tight kitchen. There is no oven, but the microwave has convection which I'm not sure how to use. I would recommend staying here. It would be perfect for a couple of a couple with small kids. Advice: As written in the Oahu guide books... If you see jellyfish on the beach, don't swim in the water. I ignored the advice and was stung by one and it was very painful. Like getting stung by several bees at once.

Perfect for a relaxing retreat....

We absolutely loved our time at the apartment on Lanakai Beach. The accommodations were ideal for our family of three. My daughter had never been to Hawaii, so we opted for visiting Oahu to take in all of the cultural sites, but staying here, rather than the throngs of Waikiki was a perfect location to enjoy the Island. The hosts had thought of everything to make our stay comfortable. MJ was very responsive and easy to work with. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home.

Lovely apartment with amazing beach access and view

My husband, our 6 year-old, and I stayed for a week at Margie and Leroy's. It was an ideal place for us- easy access to a beautiful beach with calm, kid-friendly water, use of beach chairs, umbrella, and kayak, a deck to drink coffee and watch the sunrise from.... What more could we ask? The apartment itself was very nice and comfortable too, clean and nicely appointed. Margie and Leroy were helpful and friendly and we certainly felt we had private space too. It was dreamy and I'd definitely recommend it!

exactly what we were looking for!

We wanted a quiet, relaxing vacation with a great view. We had everything we needed and absolutely every time I had a question or a request, Margie responded within minutes. I can't say enough about the view. It really was a million dollar view with a bonus because it was also an incentive to save even more on eating out. Who wants to eat out and miss the SPECTACULAR view from the lanai?!?!?! We also saved money on kayaking because they let us use two kayaks they had. The only thing I regret is that this review will probably make it harder to find availability the next time we want to go......oh well.....it's just hard to keep quiet about such a gem......MAHALO to Leroy and Margie! They were SO warm and welcoming without EVER being intrusive!

Hope this one stays a secret. It's too good to share!

The only downside is that the wifi often wasn't working (50% of the time?) and Tmobile customers do not have cell service (2nd issue is obvs not the owners' fault). Otherwise the unit was perfect for our family of 4 adults. Would happily stay here again. Owners were very helpful and welcoming and accommodating.
