Charming Panther Cottage on Upper Saranac Lake

Charming 2 bedroom cottage. Master bedroom looks directly onto the lake with 10 windows. Second bedroom is a loft over the living room. Both rooms feature queen beds and linens; second room has a pullout twin. Sleeps 5.

Living room has a flat screen television (with netflix) and cathedral ceilings. Modern kitchen features an electric range, stainless steel frig, dish washer, table seating for 5 and a small wood stove. One bathroom with shower connects off the kitchen.

French doors in the kitchen lead out onto a spacious L-shaped screened porch. Perfect for summer evening dinners or even camp outs. Porch steps lead down onto a lake-side deck with a fire pit and a new gas grill.

The deck leads out to the dock where you will find first class swimming, boating, fishing and breathtaking views.

The entire cottage is 1200 square feet and sits on a private wooded 1.4 acre lot. The driveway to the lake is steep but paved. An adjoining shed features water toys for guest use. Onsite canoe, double kayak and two single kayaks are available at guest's risk.

This is an ideal family vacation spot. Also great for 2 couples or a special getaway.

The Panther Cottage is a great place to stay. The house was very clean and exactly as described. The house setting and yard is private. We appreciated how close the dock is to the house. Easy check in and check out. We made great memories here and look forward to visiting again.

Wonderful Location

The lakeside cottage was perfectly situated. Only a few steps separated us from the water and a variety of water activities. Extremely comfortable bedding was greatly appreciated. Everything was clean and well ordered. My family enjoyed our stay.

Incredible location and beautiful cottage!

Our family (2 adults plus our two teenage girls) had an incredible stay at Panther Cottage. The house itself is beautiful and well kept, with thoughtful touches throughout. But beyond the house: you can’t beat the location right on the water - watching the sun come up over the lake while reading, and then spending the day kayaking, fishing, or just relaxing was absolutely incredible. We really enjoyed our stay, and look forward to coming back!

Beautiful peaceful location

Amazing spot. Quiet and peaceful. We had gorgeous weather and were able to enjoy local hiking, biking and kayaking as well right off the dock. The house is spotless and everything was as listed. Would definitely come back!

Serene and beautiful lakeside stay

We reeled the benefits of an early summer weekend. The house is wonderfully situated on a quiet corner of the lake. We were grateful for the opportunity to use the owners kayaks. The house was clean, well cared for and beds comfortable. We spent much of our time on the screened in porch - enjoying our meals and rest bits there. The owners were easy to communicate with and flexible with our check out. Information about local hikes and restaurants proved helpful. Highly recommend this lakeside retreat!

Panther Cottage

What a wonderful stay we had at Panther Cottage! The house was exactly how it appears in the pictures. Very clean and a great location as far as traveling to Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. We enjoyed sitting out on the dock in the evening and especially enjoyed the beautiful sunrise. Would highly recommend a week stay at Panther Cottage!

We stayed at Panther Cottage 19 years ago when our oldest was only 8mos. The fact that we were able to stay here again this many years later was so special for us. The place itself has a much welcome addition since our first stay. Almost everything else was the same as we remember, perfect! Only difference was I didn’t have to haul him on my back when we took our hikes 😁

Wonderful relaxing stay on the lake!!

We had an amazing time at the Panther Cottage. Everything was exactly as described. The property was just what we were looking for to relax in the quiet and paddle on the lake. The cottage was immaculate, beautifully decorated, and the beds extremely comfortable. We enjoyed long mornings having coffee in the covered porch. One night we had the luck of catching shooting stars in the night sky while listening to the call of the loons. Having use of on-site canoe and kayak was a huge plus also. We would love to stay again in the future. Thank you to our gracious hosts!!

Ideal Summer Stay

House and amenities as described. Located on a nice section of the lake with minimal boat traffic. We enjoyed swimming every day in the clean, weedless water. The kayaks and equipment worked nicely for the 4 of us. The screened porch was a pleasure. While as others have mentioned it is a trip to the bathroom at night, the hallway is well lit and we made it work with 2 couples. A special place.

Relaxing and Restful

Perfect spot for a relaxing vacation! The cottage offers quiet relaxation right on the water’s edge. Everything is as pictured, very clean, full of all you will need for your stay. Loons, ducks, even a hummingbird will visit you on the dockside chairs. The covered porch is comfortable, and thankfully screened in, we had all of our meals outside. Owner is excellent, she called and followed up with a text when we had a need. Kayaks and canoe available, swimming, as well. Located at the southern end of the lake, no boat traffic or noise.

Relaxing cottage; a canoers dream!

We stayed at Panther Cottage for the Adirondack 90 miler race. It was a perfect location (stayed in Old Forge the night before the start and dropped off a car at the end of Day 1 for our paddler en route to this cabin). It was about a 45 min drive to Day 2 start, about 3 min drive to Day 2 pit stop, about 5 min drive to Day 2 finish, 15 min drive to Day 3 start, and 20 min drive to Day 3 finish. GREAT location! The pit crew (3 adults and two tiny children) were absolutely spoiled by our accommodations. Canoes a-plenty for tooling around Upper Saranac. Our only complaint was the water situation--perhaps a clogged filter? We lost some water pressure during the course of our stay. Hopefully that is trouble-shot and fixed by the time you get there. Either way, I wouldn't hesitate returning despite the lack of pressure!! Suggestion for the owner--baby gate for the bottom of the stairs? We brought one with us, but would have been missing one had we not!

Peaceful seclusion

Located literally on Saranac Lake, the property location cannot be beat. In between Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake, it is easy to get to both. We dined in Saranac and had a great time. Close by hiking is world class. The house is a little funky, but worked well. The only downside for me (63 y/o male) was the downstairs bathroom location for the middle of the night sojourn. Other than that all was good! Cheers!

Panther cottage was beautiful, organized, and very nice. It was such a restful place to vacation.

We were awestruck when we arrived at Panther cottage. the location right on the lake is breath-taking and the cottage itself is gorgeous. The cabin is appointed perfectly- lovely rustic furniture and furnishings, yet simple and uncluttered. The beds are comfortable. One bedroom faces the lake, and one faces the beautiful cliff behind the house with floor to ceiling windows. The host, Jackie, was very responsive to any questions we raised via email. Internet service was good in the house, cell service was pretty non-existant. The cabin is close to both towns of Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake, with hundreds of trails close by. No lack of things to do. We enjoyed the Wild Center (especially the Forest Music walk), and we kayaked every day with the boats kept on the property. The lake is very clean and we must return so we can explore more of this area!

If you like Upper Saranac Lake this is a perfect spot. Very comfortable and gracious. Right on the water, great sunrises, star watching, and loon-listening. Kayaks/canoe come with, a big plus. The host always responded to emails promptly. We really appreciated the generosity of her kitchen, which was well stocked with good cookware and staples for sharing. Everything was beautiful!

We are a family of 4 and are avid outdoors people. My first experience in the Adirondacks was hiking the high peaks and cross country skiing. My husband came here for rock/ice climbing and back-country skiing.

When we had our kids, we introduced them to downhill skiing at Whiteface and moved on to canoe/camp adventures. It seems there is not a portage that we have not endured nor a black fly we haven't personally encountered! Through the years our kids have also developed a deep love of these beautiful places.

Sailing,kayaking and cross country skiing are new family passions. We intend to bring our catamaran up from NJ to explore the many miles of Upper Saranac - the truly best lake in the region. We are miserable fisherman as a whole, but intend to try anew off our boat dock. One can only hope that the fish of Saranac are less intelligent than the many others that have avoided us over the years.

Why they chose this property

When we saw this cottage we knew that we had found a gem too good to pass up. We intend to partially retire here and have decided to share it with select guests until that happy day arrives.

This location is ideal for several reasons. The Saranac chain of lakes is the best place to be because you can enjoy 17 miles of paddling with only one portage (!).

Secondly, the hiking is outstanding. Located within 30 minutes of the cottage are trails to Haystack, Scarface, Baker, Panther and Ampersand mountains.

Third, there are a lot of options for both downhill and cross country skiing. Local downhill/tubing resorts include Big Tupper, Titus and Mt. Pisgah. World renowned Whiteface is 45 minutes away. Cross country trails from Saranac and Lake Clear include the Horse Trail complex to Rat, Bone and Fish pond and Moose Pond trails. Out of Tupper are the Cold River Horse Trail System. From the Paul Smiths area is the Hayes Brook Trail, St Regis and Fish Ponds ski, the Jack Rabbit Trail and groomed trails at the Paul Smiths Visitors Center. Lastly, groomed trails can be found at the Mt Van Hoevenberg and Cascade Ski Centers further afield in Lake Placid.

Lastly, the cottage is private but not isolated. A scenic 30 minute drive puts you into the center of Saranac Lake where you will find restaurants, bars, churches, galleries, grocery stores, a golf club and a theatre. A 15 minute drive in the opposite direction will put you in Tupper Lake where there is a movie theatre and regional museum The Wild Center, which is well worth a visit.

What makes this property unique

There has been a cottage on this spot for over 20 years. The structure you see today was built in 1995 and renovated and expanded in 2008. Lucky for us, it's location has been grandfathered in making it the only cottage that is situated directly on the lake. It is a piece of paradise.

We are still furnishing the home so check back to find updated photos. We will have new porch furniture, a swimming platform and a new gas grill installed before the first rental.
