Our mountain weekend was perfect! The cabin was clean, spacious, and wonderful for our larger group, with plenty of amenities to enjoy. Our host was incredibly communicative and kind, making everything smooth from start to finish. We will definitely be back again!
The property was very warm and welcoming. Many of our children stated it felt like going to a grandparents house. They loved the game room and kitchen open to the family room so we could cook and all talk also. The only negative is the drive to the Biltmore. Several family members were car sick. :(
My family and I had a wonderful stay. We only wish we had more time.

You're welcome. Thank you for choosing Laurelwood for your stay. We'd love to see you come back again soon!
Peaceful and perfect for our family of 5. Lake Lure is still low, but the lake in the subdivision was full, and an easy drive from the house. The (adult) kids had no trouble transporting the kayaks, and everyone had lots of fun on the lake, rock climbing in nearby Rumbling Bald, and hiking. When it rained, everyone played pool, ping pong, and board games. Wifi was excellent for movie night. Sitting out on the porch reading was lovely. Definitely a laid-back, relaxing family vacation spot!

Very Relaxing Location with Fun Nearby
Our family had a great time at the cabin. It's close to Chimney Rock, so there are great hikes nearby. And just around the south side of the lake is the beach area and a great little coffee shop. The cabin is quiet, and homey, and it was as advertised. The owners are very responsive and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.

House in the mountains
House was plenty big for 4 couple, owner very helpful, only thing we didn't know was the unpaved road going up to the house, cars really dirty from that. House clean, back deck very spacious

Mary,
Thank you for your review. I'm glad things went well for you. In regards to the roads; the majority of the better rentals in Lake Lure are on gravel roads due to their remote locations. They are maintained by the private communities where they are located. The gravel roads where Laurelwood is located are well maintained for easy travel by Riverbend Community. Cars do get dusty from traveling the roads but that is normally expected in the mountains of NC and it quickly rinses off. Frankly, we've never had anyone complain about that. We try to provide our guests with a very accurate description of the location and the conditions. If you read Item # 2 on the info sheet that I sent, you will see that the roads are gravel. The following is taken from the info sheet:
"2. Directions from the gate - Once inside the gate you will leave the paved road and then you will be on gravel roads for a short distance to the house."
We have always thought that the gravel roads were part of the charm of being at Laurelwood. Leaving the tarmac and civilization behind.
Thanks again,
Kim Gissendanner
Our family loved the amount of space at the cabin and the game room was a huge hit. Our family enjoyed the private lake, nature trail, the waterfall, and the swimming hole all of which were inside the private gated community. We had a variety of ages of kids who were all easily entertained with swimming, fishing, kayaking, and hiking. We also loved chimney rock and the flowering bridge which were only a short drive.

Very accomodating and relaxing
We had a great time at Laurelwood for a long weekend. The house suited our needs nicely and the owner went out of his way to make the entire rental process an easy one. This is not always true of VRBO owners. This house is in a quiet and relaxing neighborhood which is what we were looking for.

Fun birthday weekend
This was a stunning log home. This was our first time going to lake lure and had a blast. Kim always messaged me to make sure everything was going as planned. This house is very close to resturaunts and the National Park. The game room and hot tub was very fun when you wanted to relax or have fun. I hope to go again sometime!

Great that the birthday weekend went well! You don't have to wait for a birthday though! You are welcome back at anytime!
This is in a beautiful area. We were close to Zip Lining, Lake Lure and a beautiful park. Chimney Rock is very close, and there are also many Waterfalls that were a short distance away (45 mins.-1 hour). There is a little lake just down the hill and the river, which we spent most of our time tubing down. We made some great family memories here. The owner is wonderful and explained a lot about the area. We will definitely visit there again if we are ever in the area.

About the host
Hosted by Kim Gissendanner
Hello, we are the Gissendanner family, living in Goose Creek, SC. Spending a lot of time in coastal areas , we were attracted to the change in scenery in the mountains of Western, NC. In the summer of 2008 I stood outside under the balcony at the Lake Lure Inn, sipping my coffee and admiring the beauty of Lake Lure. Later that afternoon while walking along the Lake with our two small children we began to talk about the adventure of building a log cabin in this peaceful place. The next weekend we returned to Lake Lure and began the process of looking at property.
Why they chose this property
We came across this community that our home is built in quite by accident and after driving around not knowing where we were headed we drove by the property that soon purchased. We met a couple who were building the cabin next door. We immediately realized that there was a business connection from a few years before. Since then there has been an almost family like bond and as divine intervention would have it this became the place for us to build. For us it's perfect. Just far away from home to get away yet not so far as to make it a long drive. The distance we travel to the cabin let's us decompress and unwind so that we are on 'mountain time' when we arrive. We love this place in all seasons. The fall colors are spectacular and summers here are cooler and comfortable. On more than one occasion we've experienced a white Christmas.
What makes this property unique
Our cabin is located just 10 minutes from Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. Outdoor activities are everywhere and there is plenty of events going on year round. When you want a more peaceful visit you are far enough up the mountain and away from the main road where you can simply enjoy doing nothing. Today I enjoy stepping out on my back deck and admiring the beauty of the surroundings. You can feel the peace in the air. At night we go out onto the back deck with lights off and lifting our heads up we experience what we refer to as 'the big picture' (more stars than you can ever imagine.)
