Nice place to stay. It's a couple of blocks from the center of town and quite a walk but you can drive into town quite easily. Just hard to find parking in town during the busy season

Beautiful property! Great place to stay!
We stayed in Boathouse 2 and it was just the cutest place. Very clean and has all of the amenities you need. It's within walking distance of all the shops and restaurants it's dog friendly! You can actually see Boldt Castle from the property! Amy and Nick, the proprietor, are so nice and helpful. Definitely stay here.

Kind regards,

This beautiful location on the river is a beautiful perfect spot for intimate getaways or a family vacation! I booked 4 locations as the Ledges Resort which housed 24 of my friends and family for a long weekend. We were all quite impressed with the staff, amenities, and overall experience. We walked to Main Street for dinner almost every night during our stay.
We had a rough year and we’re in much need of some quiet relaxation. This cottage was perfect for us. The owners and staff were exceptional! I think it will be an annual event for us.

This was our first time to A Bay and the Ledges and we loved it. We stayed in the Island cottage and we used the outdoor kitchen almost the entire time we were there because it was so incredible. The grounds are impeccably kept and the owners are super nice. We used the kayaks and hammocks but didn’t have enough time to use the unground pool this time! It was a cute, simple, affordable getaway that left us with not much else to do but have a good time and we soooooo look forward to going back!

Nice relaxing stay at the Ledges
My Wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the Ledges for a 2 night stay 10/14 and 15. What a wonderful place. It was clean and out host was very gracious and professional. We appreciated the treats and coffee that was there for us upon arrival. The Ledges is in a spectacular location with a real cool view of the Boldt Castle - something I HIGHLY recommend checking out. The Ledges was very cozy and I strongly suggest staying here during a visit to 1000 Islands. While there - do take a tour of Uncle Sam's Boat tours. To the Ledges - Thank you for making our visit to the 1000 Islands a great and memorable experience. We hope to come back sometime soon!
PS - we loved our visits from Harriet the Cat.

Bring Your Boat!
We stayed for a long weekend, 3 nights at The Ledges in the Island Cottage. The location is ideal, directly across from Boldt Castle and an easy walk to downtown. We trailered our boat with us and the location couldn't have been better. Our boat was right outside our door, gas across the way and centrally located to go either north or south on the river and see the beautiful sights. Our cottage was very cute and clean with a good TV and good channels. Our dogs appreciated the A/C unit. The bed was very mushy, we actually thought it was a water bed it was so soft. This was a perfect unit to stay for a long weekend. Nick and Amy are a very nice, easy going couple who take pride in their property and it shows! Thanks, we will be back.

Great location, great people, very relaxing
This was our first trip to the Thousand Islands area of New York and we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for our week away. My wife and I are busy professionals and we enjoyed the ability to relax in this very comfortable and laid-back location. You can't be much closer to the St. Lawrence river unless you are actually in it. We also enjoyed hanging out by the pool one afternoon.
We stayed in Boathouse #1. Having the kitchen allowed us to make meals that we would take outside to enjoy at the dock tables, under the shade of the large trees, or in one of the two gazebos while watching the activity on the St. Lawrence river. Even without the kitchen we could have used one of the multiple community grills to cook on which we did one evening. Clean towels, wash-cloths, linens, body-wash were provided. There was a TV with satellite in the living room and the bedroom.
We walked into downtown Alexandria Bay on numerous occasions to catch a boat tour of the islands, to visit Boldt Castle, to shop, have lunch or dinner in a local restaurant, etc. A number of restaurant choices exist and the Uncle Sam boat tours offer a range of tours to select from.
Nick and Amy were very friendly and were eager to lend a hand or provide answers to questions about the area if needed. There are also a few season-long guests who are very friendly and make this a welcoming place to spend time.
I would definitely recommend staying here, bring your watercraft and enjoy what the property and the St. Lawrence river has to offer!
One helpful hint: bring the phone number when you check in and give it a call when you arrive. Nick or Amy will meet you and give you the keys and the details.

We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. It was great to meet both of you and Amy and I hope to see you again. Thank you!
Island Cottage is basically an efficiency apartment for two best suited for the warmer months, if you plan to do your own cooking. There us heat and it works well so when eating out the property would work for all seasons. The kitchen area (stove, grill, small fridge, supplies) is on a covered but not screen in porch. There is a small kitchenette inside with a microwave, coffee pot and another small fridge. Management was responsive to reported problems and were on top of them quickly. When we arrived, we discovered that the small fridge on the porch was running but not cooling. It was replaced with a functioning unit mid-week. Given the odd size of the fridge this is impressive. They also offered the use of a Yetti cooler and ice until they could install the new unit. Friendly and fery customer service minded. The property is well groomed with lots of yard area. There are fire pits behind each cottage/cabin. There is a small area with a couple of chairs where guests can sit at the water front between two neighboring private properties. The view of the shipping channel from this cottage is over the top of the boats in the marina. Not impossible/not perfect. The gazebo on the ledge or the area by the shore mentioned above provide a better view. The addition of some play ground equipment might make the area a bit more child friendly. There are some cottages away from the water for those who find that a concern.
Overall the stay was very nice, a well stocked kitchen area, clean rooms, comfortable bed and great views. My only concern is the listing was for a King bed & I'm pretty sure there was a Queen is the room. My husband is very tall so we always try to book King rooms.

About the host
Hosted by Nick & Amy Schaefer
The Ledges Resort & Marina started with my grandparents Nicholas J Schaefer and his wife Amy. They purchased the property in 1961 and made it their home. In 1963 they built a motel and named it The Ledges. They also opened a German restaurant on the property named The Old World Inn. They closed the restaurant 1982, but continued with the motel. In later years the motel was managed by my parents, Jerome and Deborah Schaefer. They expanded into the marina and cottage rental business. In 2013 after 50 years in business we made a decision as a family to close the business and tear down the motel.
In 2014 my wife and I purchased the property from my parents. We remodeled the old buildings and built brand new cottages from the ground up. We re-opened to guests in the spring of 2015. I was named after my grandfather, Nicholas, and it just so happens that my wife’s name is Amy. So, once again Nick & Amy are your hosts at the Ledges!
