About this property
New England Cottage by the Bay, Wrap-Around Porch, Access to a Shell Beach
Sea Glass Cottage is located on the exclusive north shore of Jamestown/Conanicut Island, on a quiet cul-de-sac adjacent to Narragansett Bay.
This historic Victorian-style cottage was built in 1876 and has been in our family for over 100 years. In 2008 we bought Sea Glass Cottage from our extended family and began its total restoration & upgrade, touching every aspect of the house, including new; roof, electrical & internet wiring, plumbing, walls & moldings, heating system, double-pane windows, window air conditioners, ceiling fans, new septic system with water filtration system, new bathrooms, new kitchen, & interior/exterior painting. Most importantly, we retained our cottage’s historic heritage by refurbishing the original tin ceilings, doors, and wood flooring.
Our home is a few steps away from a shell beach, a shore line neighborhood beach, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, skipping rocks, or moonlit camp fires. Beach shoes are recommended. The beach has amazing views of the Narragansett Bay, Prudence and Patience Islands. We have a wrap around porch that allows you a serene place to relax in one of our comfortable rockers & enjoy our tranquil setting. Our spacious backyard has a brick patio with BBQ & picnic table for family dining. We have a backyard deck with an outdoor dining set for six, plus two chaise lounges, to enjoy more Bay views!
Our gourmet kitchen is fully equipped, and its counter island seats two, allowing for comfortable gatherings with the chef. All of the rooms incorporate many of our family’s original antiques, mixed among newer cottage-style furniture.
On the first floor there is the living room, dining room, kitchen, one full tub/shower bathroom, and a once-upon-a-time music room - that can be closed off completely for privacy with a queen sofa sleeper. The second floor has one full bathroom (shower only), four bedrooms; two have full beds, one has a King bed - which may be broken down into two twin beds if requested at the time of booking. And a Nanny room above the kitchen stairs w/ a twin daybed.
Located on the north end of Jamestown, you are just 10 minutes from the center of Jamestown and 20 minutes to famous historic Newport.
Based on our family's past 100 years of enjoying Sea Glass Cottage - I can easily say it is an ideal location for building sweet family memories and traditions.
We would like a maximum 6 guests - but will consider a couple more persons under certain conditions. We are children friendly, & ask that there be no smoking please within our cottage.

About the host
Hosted by Nancy Hendry
We took full ownership of our family's summer cottage in 2008. Since that time, with the help of a highly respected, local contractor, we have completed a full renovation of the cottage, and are presently continuing to enhance this historic property. Our motivation has always been to restore the comfort, beauty and charm back to the cottage, so that over the next hundred years, our children, and their children, and future guests will continue to build treasured family memories. We are very happy to share this magical place with others.
