A Cozy, Country Home Nestled In Millington, Tn, 15 Miles From Memphis, TN.

The Shaws' (thats right s' there are more than one) at Countryside, sits on a private 6 acres plot developed and built in 1965. Affectionately called Countryside because, it sits right in the heart of rural Memphis/ Millington, TN. What started as a place for our family to come and enjoy nature and one another without distraction, has turned into a place of respite as we embark upon hosting the weary traveler. It was officially founded by John and Linda Shaw in 2014) for the sole purpose of providing a tranquil venue for families to gather and connect in love and fellowship. There are a king sized, 2 queen sized, a full size, and four twin xls, all in private rooms. There is also 2 twin roll aways and queen sleeper sofa. There is a seperate in laws quarters on the property with full kitchen and bath and two additional queens beds available when requested in advance.
We cordially invite you to come and experience The Shaws' during your next vacation, staycation, work retreat, couples retreat or just a moment of solitude to commune with nature, whatever your need to escape, we welcome you to our humble comfy abode.
During your stay you may choose to take advantage of our local attractions such as the Shelby State Park with horseback riding and boating. Mirimichi, Orgill and Forest Irene golf gourses are all nearby. Enjoy the river bluff from the secluded end. Take the kids to the local arcade and mini golf course on your way to the flea market or antique stores. Plenty of places to shop and eat local to Millington. And if you must, the center of big sister city of Memphis is only a short 12 mile drive away.
Being nestled in the heart of the country, you are surrounded by the simple things and can enjoy the peace and music from nature. Each room of The Shaws' gives you a different theme, all in effort to evoke peace and relaxation and the outdoors isn't any different. The sights include goats, cows and horses and in your own backyard are fire pits, cornhole and ax throwing. Indoors enjoy the fully stocked game room including foosball,karoake, and pac man.
There is also an enclosed sunroom and two decks off the living space for grilling and chillin. The backyard has corn hole and other yard games.
The property is properly maintained and all maintenance systems are operating properly. The home and linens are cleaned and sanitized properly. Smoking anything anywhere inside the property or near open doors will result in damage charges.

Check-out instructions

The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Strip any used beds, gather used towels and store extra beds
Remove personal items, remove leftover food and drinks and take out the rubbish
Turn off the lights, lock the doors and return the keys
Please strip bedding down to mattress cover and place in pillow cases and leave on the bed. Thanks
Clean kitchen, wash dishes and return to cabinets. Including coffee pots. Bag trash in the bags provided and placed in the cans. Do not overfill cans but place any addtional trash in the sunroom.
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.

Perfect stay

I’m so glad I stumbled upon the Shaw’s and took a chance on this rental. It was perfect for my family while visiting for a wedding. The area was beautiful, tranquil, and safe. The house was charming, cozy, comfortable, and fun. And the hospitality of the host, Linda, was unmatched. She was responsive and kind and she went above and beyond to ensure we were taken care of and had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. Thank you again Linda!

Nice stay for a large family

Our family had a great time. The house was a little small for our large group but the bunk house saved the day. Our only issue was a small plumbing issue. We notified the owner and they were quick to respond.

Can’t wait to go back

We loved our stay at the Shaw house!! The owners were awesome and had snacks and cold drinks waiting when we got there. We were in town with our 13 year old baseball team , and our boys loved all the games and fun outdoor activities! Fun game of whiffle ball and s’mores!! We were able to cook all meal with a fully stocked kitchen and the beds were super comfortable!! We plan on coming back in the fall and can’t wait to stay here again!!!

Just what we needed

The property was well kept and in order with snacks available when we arrived. Google maps made getting there complicated but once we learned our way around, the location was perfect. We had five 17 yr old boys with us so we were able to put them downstairs which worked out perfectly. Games outside and inside were awesome as well. Would definitely stay again.

My family stayed in this rental for 5 nights while we were in the area for a wedding. We actually had 13 people for 3 nights. The house was very accommodating and the owner was wonderful to work with. Since this house was new to the rental market we made a number of suggestions to the owner. This house is close to town but out enough that it is not noisy. Definitely recommend this rental!

OMG!! The house was amazing! We have been traveling for the last 3 years and this is the first time we did not have to go to the store and buy something. They thought of everything! The home was amazing and very comfortable. Would definitely come back.

More then expected

Hospitality and amenities unbeatable. More space then expected, 5 bedrooms with 2 other rooms for extra sleeping. Wish we knew about this place when we where in Memphis for soccer. We would have stayed with several team mates. This time we had a grad school graduation cookout for family and close friends. Would be great for a family reunion. A slight drive and older home but worth it.

Nice house with a lot of space.

The Shaw was a great house for our group of 15. There was more than enough space and parking for our four families. The downside was the cost. It was nearly $1800 for 3 nights after all of the fees that are attached. The house is about 30 minutes from downtown Memphis. Overall, it was a nice home and they even provided some snacks and drinks for us.

Baseball Team last hurrah

The highlight of this property is the deck and backyard. After that the pleasant surprise of snacks and little gifts from the host. Two grills, plenty of cookware, plates and silverware. Only negative is the bedrooms with the twin beds don’t have a/c. The rest of the bedrooms were ice cold. We put a blow up mattress in the sunroom (which had its own a/c and ceiling fan) and everyone was cool to cold in the heat of July. Minutes to USA Stadium and Kroger. We will be back!

In town for funeral

The house was very nice and clean. However, we did have issues with a few things. The lighting in the kitchen was not good for cooking. We had several things break while we were there, but the owners were very quick to fix whatever went wrong. Given the description and pictures on the website, we were a little surprised that the house was right on the road. We were expecting a little more off-the-road location.

Fabulous Stay

I was extremely pleased with this rental. I have rented several times through VRBO and this home ranks up there as the best. Our family met in Memphis for a birthday and Mother's Day celebration. The Shaw's were amazing hosts and had everything ready to go for our arrival. They provided every amenity that we could need and provided amazing information for us throughout the stay. Their home was perfect for our family and I enjoyed my morning coffee on the deck each day we were there. The house is situated in a farmland area which provided the much needed peace and serenity I needed on a vacation. It is also close to Memphis so, with a short drive, we were able to visit all of the major tourist locations. i would recommend the Shaw's and their home to anyone staying in the area. Thanks again to the Shaw's for making our stay so memorable!

Lack of communication about storm damage

Dirty sponge in kitchen; thick dust under bed; unmatched socks left in different rooms. The main problem was the lack of communication. We were supposed to call when we arrived so the owner could meet us and give us keys. When we called, we were told that a storm with gale force winds (70 mph) had knocked out the power and several trees were downed. (We found out later that the major declared a state of emergency.) The owner gave us two flashlights and two candles to get us through the night. In the morning, she brought coffee because the power was still out. I texted her from the wedding we attended to check on the status, but there was no response. We were supposed to let her know when we were leaving so that she could get the keys. I called but there was no answer. My daughter texted her when she left, but there was no response. She ended up locking the front door and going out the back. Our group of nine was without power (including phone/internet) for 24 hours, but were charged the full rate. The storm was not under the control of the owner, but we should have been informed in advance and some consideration/compensation should have been made. We would have sought alternate accommodations. (My niece, who lives 10 minutes away, was not impacted by the power outage. She already had a full house and we had no vehicle until my daughter arrived by car from GA.) The house itself was perfectly acceptable.

a wonderful place for everyone

We had 13 peoples from three families gathering together. The place was spacious to have room for everyone. The kitchen was well-stocked. You can get everything needed to make a meal. There is a game room, and a lot of games that kids enjoyed so much. The back yard was full of fun. We made fire at night, and there was a s'more kit prepared for you! We liked everything the house provided. The only thing was the location. It's at least 30min to get to the downtown Memphis. But the environment was great! We are very happy about the house, which is highly recommended.

Shaw’s Country Home

The Shaw’s place was perfect for family time. The kids loved the game area. We had a very rainy weekend so was nice to have things to do with them and room to watch football together. Would recommend it to others. Know that it has a min of three nights something tht VRBO did not list or rent it out as and the required or you lost your payment. This was strictly a vrbo issue. The Shaw Country Home is a nice place for families!

The best stay ever!

I visited for a weekend birthday celebration with a family of 10 and the stay was amazing! There was plenty of space and the Shaw’s had everything we needed even a ton of snacks and beverages. When I arrived at the home there were balloons on the mailbox and the door welcoming my family. The owners even provided a birthday gift for me and my family members! Who does that??? Lol! The only downside is that I wish I could have stayed longer. My family and I have decided to make this stay a tradition and will definitely be back next year. The Shaw’s went above and beyond to accommodate us and exceeded our expectations! We are forever grateful! Thanks for everything!!!
