Private setting Big Sky Views Walk to a hidden River 2 Mini-Split AC
Mesa - In the middle of it all - 4 miles south of Blueberry Hill - 2 miles north of Taos Country Club (open to the public) 6 miles to Taos village, 18 miles to Taos Ski Valley
For the warm summer days when cracking the windows just aren't enough to let in the cool summer air in the evening, there are 2 Mini-Splits to provide air-conditioning (1 in the living room and the 2nd in the primary bedroom.) There is also a swamp cooler in the 2nd bedroom.
“A Hidden River House”, nestled with 4 neighboring homes on the open mesa, is a semi-secluded respite providing 365 degree mountain / mesa views. Each home is strategically situated, affording residents a total sense of quiet serenity and visual privacy.
Two very separate patios offer a varied choice of awe inspiring north or south mountain views. You will experience the rich southwest sun rise and sun set “light shows” so loved and made famous by world renowned artist Georgia O’Keefe.
The large central kitchen, fully equipped with upscale tableware and cookware, comes complete with dishwasher, oven/range, microwave, large fridge and an abundance of counter space. A breakfast bar for two adds dining space or computer work space. Walk out the sliding glass doors for “alfresco dining” on the north patio.
Enjoy 180 degree panoramic views from the light, bright and airy great room with three walls of windows and glass doors. A kiva fireplace adds traditional southwest charm and comes equipped with firewood for romantic fireside dining and cozy evenings of satellite flat screen TV enjoyment.
The two bedrooms are buffered by a full bathroom, creating a total sound barrier between them. The large king master bedroom, with sliding glass doors, walks out to the north patio and the queen guest bedroom is home to the ever important telescope. We promise, you will never forget the “starry starry nights” uninterrupted by city lights as viewed from A Hidden River House. Her dark skies are unparalleled!!
Located as central hub between the 4 major Taos attractions, daily travel is simplified in all directions. Taos Country Club (4 miles) and the newly declared Rio Grande del Norte National Monument (10 miles) are to the south. Taos Ski Valley (18 miles) head north and the quaint adobe village of Taos, New Mexico (6 miles).
If you are searching for quiet private serenity and a unique lodging experience, search no longer. A Hidden River House is waiting your arrival and assures you of lasting fond memories.
Please be advised during heavy snows a 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive, or optional chains are necessary.

We have stayed at the Hidden River House three times so far, over the past six years, and have recommended it to others. For us, the expansive, peaceful views and particularly the bird feeders, which bring in all kinds of birds (and even a small marmot this trip), are a real joy to watch. One of the first things we do when we arrive is to buy birdseed and fill them up. (Highly recommend!)The bed is comfortable. The BBQ is fun, and making a fire in the kiva fireplace on a cold evening or morning is delightful. The place is well maintained, and not sterile like some places -- you feel like you're in someone's home and they care about it. We highly recommend.
This place was nice enough, but very cluttered for my taste. Every nook and cranny was filled with stuff. The Kiva was wonderful. The views were great and you could enjoy a truly star-filled sky. It felt like a rental, with minimal attention to the details that make a place 5 stars.
We had a lovely time. It was our second time staying here. The first week we showed my nephew what we love about Taos, the next 3 weeks we worked remotely.
The house is perfectly situated for views and wildlife (birds, hawks, an owl, a coyote were all seen).
Highly recommend.

Overall we enjoyed our stay at Hidden River House. We never did see the river-facing ramada because of extreme heat during our stay. The house has an evaporative cooler and fans that we made use of to keep cool overnight. House itself is comfortable with lots of space. It was nice to have morning coffee on the back patio. It looks like for future guests, some of the formerly unobstructed views will change as there is a new home being built nearby (crews were digging a well during our stay and ran a generator 24/7 for multiple days, thankfully it was quiet during the weekend)....and other structures are on other sides of the home. It did not bother us since the property is still remote and mostly quiet. We liked that the home was well outside Taos itself. Comfortable and well stocked! We would stay here again for a future visit.

We absolutely loved A Hidden River House. My husband declared it, "the best vacation rental we've had." The location was spectacular. The property manager gave us clear directions on finding it. The house is close to town but felt very secluded. The views were amazing (not to mention the stars every evening). The house was clean, well equipped, and had pretty much everything we needed. The furniture and beds were very comfortable. We appreciated our dogs could stay too! We can't wait to return.
The location was very nice, but very close to neighbors. The dogs came right to use once barking at my kids. The kitchen was really great. The only trouble was that 2 nights of our stay the roof leaked in multiple locations directly over the master bed. The last night we were unable to sleep in the bed because of it. The other thing was broken pottery and overgrown sage/plants in the walkway of the patio/courtyard. It would be nice to have that trimmed up and cleaned up for a family friendly property. The house though, it was beautifully arranged and supplied. Minus theses things, especially the roof leaks, it would have been wonderful.

After reviewing the comments about your stay at A Hidden River House, Premiere Properties and the owner of the home would like to extend our apologies for the issues stated in your review.. Until the recent rains we were unaware of the leak in the roof and that is being attended to. We are not certain where the dogs are from as we have not had this problem with past guests but we are checking into it. The condition of the yard has been taken care of and actually the gardener was scheduled to arrive the day of your departure. Once again we do apologize for these inconveniences and if you decide to visit A Hidden River House in the future please contact Premier Properties directly and we will work out a deal for you for a 5 night or more stay. I would like to add that your constructive comments are welcome as this helps in our quality control efforts. Thank You

This is absolutely our favorite home away from home. We’ve stayed here at least six times, we love it! This house is comfy, cozy and welcoming. The kitchen has everything you need to cook, bake and host friends. The beds and bedding are good quality and so comfortable. We love the fireplace and the cute living room for watching movies and hanging out. The outdoor spaces are a huge bonus. The patio is sweet and has gorgeous views. We recommend buying bird seed and filling up the feeders to enjoy mountain jays, songbirds, bunnies and other wildlife year round. In the summer, the house is cool. In the winter, the heated floors are so warm and cozy. With River access for fly fishing and the 360 views, you can really enjoy how beautiful Taos is.

The house was beautiful but when we arrived at 9pm we were to tired to really look around. The house floor were very dirty and when I told the management they actually told me I should have called the property maintenance to come clean it.. really so we would have had to leave the house for them to clean it when that soloist have been done prior to our arrival! Me, my 8month old, my 18 year old and my husband all suffered from horrible breathing g problems and allergies! It was horrible and we felt better out of the house than in it!

Dear Tracy, We are baffled by the date of this review being 2 months after departure from "A Hidden River House". We do not have a "property maintenance" department as referred to in the review. All maintenance calls are immediately transferred to each private Caretaker. During our pleasant conversation a few days ago, it was indicated that "3 adults and 2 children" were in residence during your stay. Original data at time of booking indicates there would be 3 adults, 1 child in residence. During your stay, the caretaker's cell phone was on all 7 days and nights. Her husband, as her back up, had his cell phone on all 7 days and nights. Neither of them received any calls. At the end of your stay, Caretaker Sondra had a pleasant farewell conversation with you and there was no mention of any cleanliness or maintenance issues. After Premiere's conversation with you a few days ago, several phone attempts to your phone were made and messages left in hopes of clarifying the above discrepancy of details. We have not heard back and are left wondering if the above review might unknowingly be referring to another vacation lodging experience that more recently took place somewhere else rather than at "A Hidden River House" 2 months ago? The previous 13 reviews all gave very high marks for cleanliness which we hold at a very high standard and hope this is a simply a case of a misdirected review.
Beautiful house in great area but complicated for a long stay
We were there a month. By and large, we loved the house and loved the area. Their were so many of the owners' personal and decorative items that we had to move some to make room for our own things and to protect theirs.
We had a couple of issues: The biggest was a kitchen cabinet door. We found it broken with dry glue on the broken part that showed that it had been glued before. There was also a bottle of wood glue in the house. We called the property manager to let him know and someone picked up the door for repair quickly. They insinuated that we broke it despite the dried glue. I called several times to confirm that we were not to be blamed but never got confirmation and we were nervous that we would be blamed for other old damage to the house. That made us a little uncomfortable.
Other than that, the property manager was very responsive and helpful.

Thank you for allowing us to host you for your month long visit to Taos. We apologize for leaving you with the impression that you would be blamed for the cabinet door. To accurately understand our position it is important to clarify the cabinet door wasn't found broken, but was reported broken 9 or 10 days after arrival. We needed some time to evaluate the situation and speak with the owner. Ultimately we determined that you wouldn't be responsible for the damage and we are surprised that you would put this in your review as we explained this decision to you on the phone and didn't take any action against your security deposit. We hope that our future guests understand that our priority is to provide a fantastic guest experience at the property, but at the same time we must be thorough in evaluating damage situations as it is our responsibility to protect the property for the owner.
Sincerely,
Premiere Properties
If you like privacy, and fantastic views & sunsets, then this is a property for you. We were here 6 nights, and our favorite part was the back patio, and enjoying the mountain views. The back yard ramada was very interesting, & creative.
When we arrived, the house had not been cleaned properly, and I communicated with the local caretaker that evening. She returned my call the next morning, and she understood our disappointment. Floors were dirty, counter tops needed wiping, and the top of fridge very dusty. She took care of everything while we were out sightseeing. She apologized, and we felt satisfied. The house does need a good deep cleaning, but bed linens were clean, bathroom was clean too. The mattress in the master was comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked if you want to cook.
We walked to the "hidden river" several times, very pretty setting. There is another ramada there overlooking the river, bring a picnic lunch, so peaceful.
Suggestions for the owner - some plastic wine glasses for outside use. New pillows, all of the bed pillows were pretty wimpy, and thin. Also, the kitchen patio screen door is awful to open and close, it's a struggle every time.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. We apologize for not having the property properly cleaned prior to your arrival. We learned a valuable lesson to allow more time between reservations when a longer term rental has been at the property. We had a guest in the property for 30 nights who departed the same day as your arrival and they left things in disarray to say the least. We won't make this mistake in the future and hope to have you back to enjoy this lovely property.

This house is just as pictured! Clean, inviting, and the perfect size for my family of five. A peaceful getaway for sure! A few things to note:* This property is truly out of town as the description says. Expect 15 minutes to get to the Plaza area. (Fine by us as we wanted to be away from the town). * Another review mentioned this, but try to arrive during daylight. I can see how it would be very difficult to find the first time at night. Your phone GPS will NOT get you there so you need to have the printed directions with you!* The hidden river is about 1/2 mile away from the house - not as accessible as I had hoped for my kiddos.* The kitchen had everything you could need but the coffee pot is nearing the end of its life! * The instructions on the agreement mention taking trash to the dumpster that is "up the hill" upon checkout. We could not find a dumpster anywhere! We drove our trash with us to the next town before we found a dumpster. Overall, this is a lovely, well maintained property!

Disliked: Location, listing accuracy
Not As Described-Part 1
We did not have a good experience. Would not recommend this house, or location. Left early and found a better location to stay at.
When we arrived at the house the wind was hollowing. There were significant wind gusts. Once we found the key for the house, location was not given to us, we unlocked the door. The wind was blowing so hard that I hung onto the door so it would not slam open. Before we even stepped into the house there was a crash. As we got in the door, we saw that a figurine had been blown over that was in the nitch in wall across from door. When it blew over it created another one to crash to floor. We had to locate a broom and dustpan and get the rug picked up, so our dogs did not get cut by anything. We immediately took all the other figurines out of the nitch and placed on table so no other ones would be broken. I reported this to the individual that answered the phone for caretaker contact. He made the comment that it had been very windy. Our issue with this is we are being charged for something that broke and was completely out of our control. Noone was doing anything crazy; we had not even stepped foot in the house yet.
As we started to settle in and look around the house, we noticed that the outside areas were nothing like pictured on the VRBO site. In the pictures on VRBO it shows a nice sitting area labeled side yard. The vegetation is so overgrown that we were not able to access this area. The side yard looks nothing at all like the pictures posted due to the overgrown vegetation. In the pictures on VRBO it also shows a nice patio area for sitting at a table, with cushions. Again, the vegetation is so overgrown that we had to maneuver the chairs around have any room. we also looked around for cushions for the chairs and were unable to find any. It was a tight fit down the path to gathering location due to the vegetation as well. The pictures for outdoor space are very misleading.
My husband and I attempted showers and discovered we had no hot water. The hot water heater did not appear to be working. I did notify the number for caretaker and the gentleman did offer to come over and take a look. We were tired and ready to settle in. I told him we would touch base the next morning.

We are very sorry that this guest had a less than perfect experience at the property “A Hidden River House”. We at Premiere Properties pride ourselves in presenting each home as it is described on our website. We do our own photos without any embellishing.
The Taos Mesa is an area where it is generally more windy than other areas in Taos. In all the years we have represented this home we have never had any interior damages because of wind. The guest was charged $20.00 for the broken figurine which seems to be reasonable considering the personal value the homeowner places on such things.
The Mesa Area has a natural desert landscape which include sagebrush and other desert vegetation. The immediate sitting areas around the home had been groomed the previous week and the cushions were stored inside the home due to the windy conditions and were accessible to the guest for placement on the patio furniture.
The caretaker was informed of the hot water situation and was in the process of having a plumber go to the house, but the guests declined this visit which ultimately was an easy fix.
The guest failed to mention they had 2 dogs which may not be comfortable traveling as one smashed thru a screen door causing considerable damage. The guest was charged $250.00 for this repair which required a new screen and repair to the door frame. The guests ultimately were unhappy with this extra charge and we believe this factored into their choice to give a 1-star review to this 5 Star VRBO rated property.
Respectfully Premiere Properties Vacation Rentals.
We enjoyed at our stay at this home, and especially liked watching the birds and other wildlife that wandered into the little backyard. A covey of quail came through at one point!
George answered his phone at 4:30 am and helped us quiet smoke alarms that had gone off for no good reason. He was great, and went above the call of duty.
