Perfect house, quiet street, minutes to shops.
This house is perfect. It’s utterly charming on a quiet street, just 2 minutes walk from both the start of the shops and an entrance to the huge covered market. It has a large open plan living/kitchen area with exposed beans and several doors that lead onto quiet alleyways where you can sit and have a drink. It worked for both a grandparent (70+) and kids from 6-12 - close walk to good/drink/shops/bikes. We were 9 people - 2 couples, a grandmother and 4 kids. Kitchen was well stocked, and we walked to the market multiple times a day for fresh croissants/cheese/everything you could imagine (it’s open in the summer from 7:30-15:30). Martine who looks after the house was extremely helpful and responsive. We would definitely stay here again.
Il de Re was certainly one of the highlights of our 3 weeks in France. If you are active, make sure you reserve several days to bike the glorious bike trails, all around the island. One thing to note! If you are driving in, Ile de Re is a maze of 1 way streets. Plan your route before you enter - you must come in via Rue de L'Hopital, then by Place de Republique, then on to Rue Carnot, then turn right on Rue Suzanne Cothonneau.
