Great place to stay during a family function in the area. Owner very easy to communicate with, cabin is very clean, and easily accessed off main road. Overall a great stay.

We stayed for four nights while fishing our crappie club fall classic. The location is great and the house is as deacribed. We really enjoyed the outdoor covered seating area. I give it 5 stars, and would recommend!
Ric takes great pride in this property and it shows in the condition of it. It was the best trip I have taken to this area and I have taken many.Try fishing with Ric for a great day!!I could not have been more pleased with the value per cost.

Ric was a great host and was very responsive to all of our questions and requests. I was surprised how nice the house is for a hunting cabin. My husband, myself, and 2 dogs stayed at the house, and it was completely setup with everything we needed. The cost of this place is the same as some area rentals that have less space and land. We will definitely be booking again with Ric!
The property is listed more as a hunting & fishing lodge& was probably adequately clean for a group of men of that mindset. Mainly I thought front porch area could use a cleaning & maybe a small bistro set for sitting outside for a smoke. My biggest issue was the tar pit right next to the house, it was fenced off & safe but the smell everywhere outside was insurmountable. Overpowering. Didn't help that I came down with stomach flu or food poisoning for the entire trip and then some.

Not our favorite
The house was okay. Grass super long got cut while we were there and lawn trimming so long we couldn’t play yard games. No wash clothes or dish towels. Refrigerator needed to be cleaned. Dead bugs on window sill and on front porch. Not worth the money.

I apologize the grass and clippings were long. But we did have an above average amount of rain the week before. There were ample amount of dish towels in the cabinets In The kitchen. I assure you that the house is cleaned after every guests departure. As I stated in our previous correspondence if you needed anything during your stay you could have contacted me. I will make sure to address the items that need addressed for future guests. Thank you for your review.
Our daughter found this house and asked to stay for a weekend and do some fishing for her 13th birthday. Brought our 2 Labrador dogs.
Would definitely recommend this place for a quick little get away. Nice quiet area with no touristy attractions but some good restaurants.
Perfect location for everything we had to do that weekend. Info and pictures on this place is very accurate. Very private and comfortable. Only draw backs that I noticed was the highway and interstate traffic noise and the oil smell next to us. Of course the wind was out of that direction. Otherwise the place is nice and a quaint little getaway.
We had a great time while we were here fishing with the guide Ric set up for us! The winery just down the road was super fun and we really enjoyed the restaurant “Seasonings” Our only complaint was that the bathroom could have been cleaner. Great little house in a super friendly little town!
Ric was very attentive and nice. We spent a lot of time out exploring and this was our home base for the night. We could not use the TV, there were no instructions on how to get it going. But we also did not bother to ask. But making a suggestion to leave some kind of instructions to operate the TV for the next visitors. Otherwise it met our needs perfectly.
Everything as advertised and more. Well stocked with anything you may have forgotten. Very accommodating host. Took us a few days to figure out where to go for breakfast, but Bonnie Cafe is the answer.

Why they chose this property
My son, Ric, at the age of 15 and I went down to the Wayne Fitzgerald State Park on Rend Lake in 2001 to attend the annual Celebrity Quail Hunt, sponsored by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Foundation. It was such an enjoyable experience and beautiful surroundings that we have attended this three day event every year since then.
As a result of our travels around the area we had the opportunity to meet a local Hall of Fame Fishing Guide who ended up taking us out fishing every time we went south to participate in the Quail Hunt. What was scheduled as a three day hunting event ended up becoming a five day event, split between fishing and quail hunting.
During one of our trips to southern Illinois we came upon a 9 acre parcel of land with a house, 10 stall enclosed boat storage building and a pole barn. It was for sale. Except for one neighbor it was totally surrounded by government land. In addition, it was practically right next door to Wayne Fitzgerald State Park and Rend Lake. We bought it!
Ricky was about to graduate from Bradley University with a degree in Construction Management. As a result he put his education to work and undertook to completely remodel the house and manicure the grounds in 2011.
Upon graduation he took up residency adjacent to the property and accepted a position with Shawnee Professional Services, a local Survey and Engineering company.
In addition, he is now a fishing guide with that Hall of Fame Fishing Guide, Todd Gessner of Todd Gessner Outdoors. He also has access to private goose and deer hunting facilities within minutes from our location.
