A charming family house in what is officially one of the most beautiful villages in France, sleeping 12 adults/children, with an additional cot for infants. Perfect entertaining space for large extended families or groups of friends, with flexible accommodation organised as follows: House on Street level (sleeps 8): 2 double bedrooms, 2 twin rooms, 1 family bathroom with bath; 2 ensuites; 1 additional WC; study; open plan kitchen/dining room; sitting room; playroom; laundry. Adjoining gite on street level (sleeps 4); 1 double bedroom; 1 twin room; 1 sitting room ; 1 kitchen/diner. The gite and the house are all one building, however the gite is accessed through a separate door at the end of the property . Outside: Garden with large 5m x 12m unheated pool and BBQ (charcoal) area; adjoining paddock.

Very enjoyable stay

We really liked this property. Wish the holiday could have lasted longer. The river beach and river beach bar were a short walk away and very enjoyable. Pre-booked the 2 hour kayak tour from the local kayak place which was great fun. The local town was lovely too.

Plenty of space both in and outside. Kitchen and lounge areas very good as is the pool area. Only drawback was the high temperature in the gite (we had outside day temperatures around 35). Conveniently positioned for Aubterre and only a few miles from good stores.

Had an excellent time pool area and house worked really well for us and in a very good location for getting around and seeing other areas. We where unable to contact property manager due to unforeseen circumstances but owner replied and was very helpful

Wonderful. Exceeded our expectations.

We booked this property for a special 3 generation family holiday ...6 adults and 6 children. It was just great everything that was promised. . The house was just loverly clean, well equiped, and really nicely laid out. The pool was the real star of the show....just great, safe,clean ,perfect. Loved the pool house....even had a beer fridge , what more could you ask for !.Thanks Emma we had a wonderful holiday.

The peoperty has potential to be amazing but needs some investment to bring it up to standard. It wasn't very clean, there was a very odd smell in the gite, and there were some weird 'quirks' like random items in the wardrobe, lots of non-essential things not working (like the playstation), and it just felt a bit unloved which give it a weird vibe. It's a shame as it's a massive property with really nice big rooms and lots of space for everyone.

A wonderful week spent in a gorgeous house!

This was the second time we stayed at Le Mauguillard - we loved it so much the first that we booked it again as soon as we got home! It's such a lovely house and has everything you could need/want. Even on days when the weather's not great, the house is big enough and has enough to do in it, that you never feel like you're living in each other's pockets. The owner, Emma, has always been extremely helpful with any queries we've had and the property managers, Janine and Jurgen, were fantastic too - always there if we had any problems. We will no doubt be back again!

Lovely house with a lot of space pool and large area to play.The reason for the 3 star is because there were a few things which surprised us and cumulatively these did affect things overall.The oven in the main house didn’t work which was mentioned on the previous reviews in the book - it actually did but there was a flick of a switch needed so we spent the 1st 8days without in a self catering place.The air conditioning was not in the whole place as we had interpreted from the write up and the 2 small kids rooms in the main house had none (with single beds) whilst fans helped they were very warm and we did book and pay the extra for air conditioning - thinking this was available in the whole property - there was no air conditioning in the smaller house and whilst the downstairs did stay cool the bedrooms were warm but a fan did suffice - clearer write up would have removed this slight disappointment on arrival.The facilities listed were not all available - namely table tennis, the swings were very rickety and moving so we didn’t use and Wendyhouse not in use - not a problem for us but for others may affect a booking.But all of these would only have lnocjed it to a 4 - unfortunately the worst thing was the neighbour who was incredibly unpleasant and intimidating to children for playing in the daytime in the gardens designated to this property - he was very intimidating to 8yr olds and left them in tears and continued shouting at them and would not speak to us as adults.

Perfect for family reunions

We had the best time during our stay, we organised the house to have as a base for friends and family to visit us. Which was perfect, the pool and BBQ area is amazing lots of room to get together, catch up and chill. Emma the owner was very understanding over a surprise guest of a dog for a few nights. Overall amazing place and lots of room definitely suitable for multi families if needed. Would definitely recommend! ❤️ There are a few issues; Despite being listed with aircon you are required to pay €100 cash to have the remotes released. Luckily we did not require the aircon during our stay, however, if it was available may have made our stay more comfortable. Some of the rooms are suffering from damp which needs to be addressed, particularly the room off the dinning area. It was tidy, well equipped and surface clean. Definitely requires a deep clean or supply better cleaning supplies. Location: the location is great. There is a river beach a few minutes walk away with a playground, bar and restaurant perfect for a day out. Approx. 5min drive brings you to a lovely little french village plenty to keep you occupied for a few days. It has a local well stocked shop, pharmacy, a few restaurants, bars and cafes plus a few boutique shops. We did find the intermarché in Chalais more affordable so definitely worth the trip for supplies. Kayaking is only available from July which was a bit disappointing but may benefit further travellers. Thanks for a wonderful holiday!🥐

Good house in a great position

We really enjoyed our stay and the house was great for us as it accommodated the twelve us so well. One or two minor problems but Ian who looked after the house was always available to help. Aubeterre is beautiful and so good to be able to walk there. We played tennis down the road and used the river beach. Good garden for the children to play in and the golfers to practise their chipping, and we didn’t disturb the grumpy neighbour too much. Great pool and lots of starry nights! Thanks for lending us your house.

Great bucolic view from pool

Was ok - which is only normal considering the price. The noise from the road nearby is indeed only in the mornings and in the evenings. The view from the pool is superb ... cows, trees and very quiet ! We actually lived at the pool since ( as you can see on the picture ) you could shelter from the sun there , enjoy your meals, etcetere.

Belle maison , bel espace. Plutôt bien équipée. Espace piscine très appréciable et très appréciée. Les petits points à améliorer seraient de bien nettoyer le frigo entre chaque location et d’ajouter un batteur électrique.

Beautiful place and fabulous house done to a very high spec. We had a few issues about getting our deposit back and being blamed for things that were nothing to do with us. Found this very unsettling as we had been in touch with the owner before and during the holiday and she had always come back immediately and seemed very friendly and polite. Our deposit was eventually refunded in full, but only after we had sent a very long email explaining everything to her and chased up a few times. This put a slight blight on a very enjoyable holiday

Perfect stay in a lovely and comfortable house

We spend a week in "le Maugillard" with a group of friend and some children and it was wonderfull. The house is lovely and very comfortable ! It is near a typical french village where you can go to the market for good products, you also have local productors. The pool is nice and securised for children. A big thank to Emma for her house!
