Drakes Island is a great family location with only residential properties and a long sandy beach. An easy 5 minute walk to the beach means no parking fees, the flexibility to easily come and go to the beach and lots of choices that do not require a car.
The Drakes Island Association clubhouse, playground and tennis courts offer many organized activities for kids of all ages.
Visitor Memberships may be obtained by tenants who are renting a Drakes Island property. The price is VERY reasonable (in 2024 a family membership is $30 for 1 week or $50 for 2 weeks). This membership carries the same privileges as a permanent resident membership and allows you to have your kids participate in the Kids Day Camps and to reserve the tennis courts (small extra fee for tennis and kids camp).
Please go to the Drakes Island Associations website at DIIA.org for details and the membership forms.
Bring your bikes to ride along the quiet residential streets. A permanent land bridge from Drakes Island to route 1 makes for easy access to shopping, restaurants, and movies on the main land.

This was a great cabin for a family vacation. Lots of room for everyone and a nice kitchen to cook meals. It's a great location for beach time and surf fishing. My grandchildren loved the beautiful beach and it was an easy walk for them. Thank you Loretta for sharing this great family cabin.
We loved the log cabin. Our only complaint is that it was really really hot inside and we never got it to cool down. If it has A/C next year, we may consider it. Landlord was lovely and house was very clean.
This cottage has lots of room and is well equipped with everything you need in the kitchen, to lots of extra blankets, fans and heaters if needed. The children enjoyed the big lawn and we all were happy to walk to the beach in five minutes. The property manager answered our one issue with a bed that was fixed right away. Highly recommend! Thank you
The weather was perfect and just a short walk to an amazing family-oriented beach. The deck was also an excellent place to relax after the day. Sunsets over the causeway and sunrises just a quick walk away
Owner, Loretta was lovely to deal with and cabin had all the essential needed for our stay. Loved access to the beach......about a five minute walk. We were even able to drive grandma down the road to the beach with easy access. Great for bike rides, walks and tennis too! Our only complaint is we didn’t rent For two weeks!

Great beach cabin
We stayed at the Loretta's cabin and we had a GREAT time. It has a cabin feel that suited us perfectly. The space is really functional. We could even host both our mothers.
The kitchen is fully equipped and there are even a few beach toys available for the little ones.
Overall, an incredible experience. We will surely be back.
Thanks Loretta !

maine cottage
We recently stayed at the log cabin and loved it. It is what you imagine in your minds eye what a Maine cottage should look like. There was plenty of room, everything was clean. The kitchen was well equipped. The cottage is close to the attractions of Southern Maine and many fine restaurants. Drakes Island beach is down the street about one quarter mile. It is the ideal spot for a family get together. From the seventy plus year old members of the family to visiting nephews everybody loved the cottage. My husband and I loved breakfasts at the Maine diner, grocery shopping was maybe a mile away. You can not beat this place.
My father's family started vacationing on Drakes Island in 1913 and fell in love with it. So far, 5 generations of our family have come every summer since then. No matter how far away parts of our family have moved, we all come 'home' every summer to recharge and commune with nature.
Why they chose this property
This is the original cottage my parents started out with in 1956 and where I grew up when I lived on Drakes Island every summer. My brother owned the cottage after my parents passed away and we have now purchased the cottage from my brother.
