About this property
Welcome to Winghaven & Asheville! Secluded yet convenient to shops & food
Located on the south slope of Burney Mountain in the beautiful Mountains of North Carolina, the Chalet at Winghaven is a spacious, sunny log home, built in 2014.
Close to Asheville (twelve miles to downtown) and all its attractions, the Chalet is surrounded by 38 acres of picturesque hardwood forest. Wild turkeys rustle the fallen leaves in winter and lead their young in spring. An abundance of birds and other wildlife can be spotted from the sunny porches and a large south facing deck.
Amazingly this natural oasis is hiking distance from the local pizza place and the closest large grocery store is less than four miles away!
Open the sliding glass door of the spacious MASTER SUITE to enjoy the mountain air or relax with a glass of wine on the covered porch.
Sleeping in the LOFT BEDROOM with its own private full bathroom feels like being away from it all, up in the trees.
Guests of all ages enjoy the BUNK ROOM which is adjacent to another full bathroom which features a washer and dryer.
The open kitchen /dining / living space with vaulted ceilings and exposed beams is bright and airy during the day and cozy at night with a fire in the Danish wood stove.
Outdoor amenities include two covered porches, a deck, a gas grill and a fire pit perfect for making s'mores.
The Chalet is a convenient home base for the multitude of activities our area has to offer: Visit the Biltmore Estate ( 11miles), Downtown Asheville (12 miles), Historic Hendersonville (14 miles), go tubing or kayaking on the French Broad River, zip lining, drive the Blue Ridge Parkway, hike a different trail every day or see five magnificent waterfalls in just one day. There are wine tastings, beer tours, music and dance performances to attend and fabulous restaurants to try. Biking is a favorite sport here be it on the road or on mountain trails. We are more than happy to help you with planning your vacation so please talk to us and let us know what you are interested in.
Of course the Chalet is also an awesome place to just relax, enjoy the sun shining through the leaves, the peace of the forest and the starlit nights.
Please note that the Chalet is accessed by a private gravel road but 4-wheel drive is usually not necessary. We are happy to talk to you about the road if you are not familiar with driving in the mountains!

About the host

After living or owning properties in Germany, the Philippines, Hawaii, Manhattan, Croton-on-Hudson, and Raleigh, we chose the Asheville area to raise our three children. We love the cultural and natural richness of this place. The mountains, forests, ecological diversity, waterfalls and the local food movement, farms and markets, outstanding restaurants, cultural events and interesting, friendly people make this a great place to live and visit. We decided to build the Chalet at Winghaven so we can welcome people to this amazing area that we enjoy so very much.
We live just about ten minutes away from Winghaven, on a small farm with dairy goats, rare breed chickens, ducks, geese and dogs. . Of course we would also be delighted to have you come in person and visit with the animals during your stay at Winghaven! Naturally, we will always have fresh eggs from our happy hens as well as handmade goat's milk soap for you at the Chalet at Winghaven.

Why they chose this property
We looked for a long time to find the ideal vacation rental property here in our beautiful area. We were not satisfied with what we could find, so we decided to build it ourselves! The chalet is very close to our own home, but we still feel like we are on vacation every time we go up there, even though we go there mostly to work! We love the seclusion and privacy of a large property, but we don't like to drive forever to pick up some groceries, go to a restaurant or enjoy the culture of our region. One of the most important aspects in our search for the perfect vacation spot was that the home needed to be sunny and bright. When we found this amazing piece of land it was just a perfect fit. We love the special feeling and connection to nature that only a log home can offer, so this is what we built and we feel that it fits its location amazingly well.
What makes this property unique
The chalet feels bright, airy and warm, with its exposed wooden beams, high ceilings and natural materials throughout. We love to have a crackling fire in the wood stove when it is chilly outside or sit on the porches and enjoy a glass of wine under the stars in summer.
We designed the home to take full advantage of its location and the mountain views. The inside and outside connect through sliding glass doors and huge windows.
The loft bedroom is amazing, it feels like you are sleeping in the tree canopy up and away from it all. Our kids love the bunk room, this is a favorite sleepover spot for them and their friends. The master bedroom is spacious and it is nice to open the sliding glass door to the porch and take in the night air before going to sleep.
We love to explore the forest, follow the little stream downhill and look for the large flock of wild turkeys that is always to be found here somewhere.
