We started self catering at Penylan Farm to open up our beautiful part of the world with visitors aiming to make them feel as at home and at peace here as we do. We do our best to make your visit one to remember, providing local knowledge on great places to visit, tourist attractions and seasonal events, and of course the best places to eat. Monmouthshire has recently been named the top food destination in Wales, with friendly local hostelries and Michelin starred restaurants. We’ll point you towards great locale produce and Dave will happily explain his approach to sustainable farming and biodiversity.

Why they chose this property

Penylan Farm enjoys a hilltop setting atop of the beautiful Monmouthshire countryside. We are just 5 miles from the medieval market town of Monmouth, birth place of Henry V and are nestled between Abergavenny, the Wye Valley, Forest of Dean, Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains. On our immediate doorstep is the historic Hendre Estate which was the family home the Rolls family (of Rolls-Royce fame). Local footpaths connect to Offa’s Dyke or you can follow one of our own custom designed walks from the farm exploring the history of The Rolls Family. Once you have recharged your batteries there are plenty of local activities to keep you going including water sports on the River Wye (voted the public’s favourite river in England and Wales) and cycling in the Forest of Dean, or along the ‘Peregrine Trail’ following the Wye to Symonds Yat. We have done the leg-work for you, find something for everyone, at any pace, at any point of the year, just ask us for tips.

What makes this property unique

Escape the hustle and enjoy Penylan’s more gentle pace of life, in one of our three charming self catering cottages. Spend your holiday on our farm in unspoilt hilltop tranquility, ten minutes from the historic market town of Monmouth. Awake to the sound of the bird song, take in the fresh welsh air and enjoy wonderful local walks and panoramic views from our small working farm focussed on environmental stewardship.
